Description

The fur is about to fly between a cheerful cat sitter and a grumpy hockey nerd in this hilarious and charming rom-com by the New York Times bestselling author of Meet Cute.

Kitty Hart has become internet famous as the Kitty Whisperer for her expertise on all things feline, and as a result, her cat-sitting business is booming. But lately, she has a terrible feeling that maybe her life isn’t quite going where it’s supposed to—especially after falling face-first into her newest client. Not exactly the best first impression.

Fortunately, Miles Thorn is just as bad at first impressions. Strike one: he doesn’t like cats, especially Prince Francis, the haughty and mischievous Sphynx his mom left in his care. Strike two: tackling Kitty to the floor in a misguided attempt to save the pet he continually calls “the gremlin.”

As awkwardness slides into attraction and things start to turn purr-sonal, will these two complete opposites ever be able to find their furry-tail ending?

I'm pretty sure this book was written for me. I LOVE cats and to have them incorporated into a room com is just perfect. I'm obsessed with the grumpy/sunshine trope as well.

A Love Catastrophe was amazing and I would recommend this to cat lovers and lovers of romance a million times over!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this arc in exchange for an honest review!

A super cute romcom about a cat sitter who finds herself catsitting for a grumpy hockey nerd . Kitty Heart is an internet famous cat whisperer known as the Kitty Whisperer, she’s popular for her expertise in training cats and looking after them. Miles Thorn has a problem: he needs someone to look after his mom’s cat while she is in the hospital, especially because said cat is a menace and hates him. So when he stumbles upon Kitty’s social media, she’s the perfect person for the job, what he doesn’t except is to be falling for this gorgeous and cheerful woman. Throw in some fun cat shenangians, sweet moments, and just an all around fun time, and you get a great read. This was seriously just a cute and sweet read, super easy and it flies by. i had so much fun with all the cat stuff and Kitty and Miles had good chemistry. Seriously if you are looking for a cute rom com wit some cats then add this one to your list!

Enjoyable read!
This was definitely a different kind of Helena Hunting book. We still have her signature quirky characters & LOL parts, but there is also a deeper storyline threaded throughout the book.

I really loved this book! What’s better than a cat person and a dog person falling in love? Helena Hunting writing it! I forgot how much I enjoy her words and I couldn’t put this down once I started reading.

What a feel good book about moving past grief, people coming together when they need someone and being true to yourself.

Kitty owns a cat sitting business and Miles is dealing with health issues with his mother who has a sphinx cat. Kitty has an automatic dislike for Miles because he definitely is a dog person and not a cat person by his horrible comments. However, the more time they have together the more her walls start to come down.

I thought this was a great rom-com with some substance to it.

Thank you #NetGalley for the advance copy.

4.5 Stars!!

I read this book in one sitting, this book was the perfect combination of sugar and spice! Laugh out loud moments, pull at your heartstrings moments, and spicy moments make up this rom com from Helena Hunting!

Kitty is serious when it comes to cats, and I was cracking up at her inner monologue when she first met Miles. The two couldn’t seem more opposite when they first meet. But through their different interactions with each other they develop a really great friendship that delves deeper than either expected.

I really adored this book, the story, the characters, and everything in between were fantastic. I will say there were moments that had me more emotional than I was expecting, however I really feel like that just added to the book. I wouldn’t be upset if we got more from stories set in this book universe because I have a feeling that Kitty’s sister and Miles’s best friend may have a story to tell!

This book was the cats meow!!! It was so adorable and Kitty Hart is so fun! This had laugh out loud scene and way too real scenes with the cats. I love how Kitty and Miles fall in love. They are such a beautiful couple that are dealing with all the things that life throws at them including dealing with grief, parents with dementia, rising social media fame and pressure.

Miles is a perfect book boyfriend, hot nerdy attentive, loves dogs. I loved reading how Kitty comes into her own, trusting herself with her business, letting go of her guilty of her fathers death, her relationship with her mom.

This was such a feel good romance with bonus cats!!!

"My favorite days are the ones where I wake up with you beside me."

A Love Catastrophe is a reminder of why I fell in love with Helena Hunting's writing in the first place. Jam-packed with her signature humor, quirky characters, and absolutely addicting banter, this book is an absolute hit.

I loved Kitty and Miles so much. Two extremely awkward characters with sizzling chemistry - say no more! Their relationship was playful and oh-so steamy, and I couldn't keep the smile off my face while reading. I really enjoyed all the side characters, especially all the crazy felines, and would love for some of them to get their own stories as well! I really loved this book and can't recommend it enough!!

A Love Catastrophe was a fun romantic comedy with deeper storylines involving dealing with loss and taking care of a family member with dementia. Kitty is the perfect quirky character I've come to love in Helena Hunting novels. Seems like a nice beginning to a new series for Helena Hunting. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever/Grand Central Publishing for the chance to read this novel.

This was a fun light hearted read made up of all the elements I look for in a satisfying rom-com.
Most importantly we have love interests with a fun dynamic, in this case Kitty and Miles have an opposites-attract vibe going. She is a cat person and he is a dog person, this contrast leads to some funny interactions. I would have enjoyed more of the hockey scene and more development of the secondary human characters (I did love the fur-characters). I definitely enjoyed the pacing and the grumpy/sunshine conflict.

4.5 🌟

This was a really refreshing change of pace for HH. It's a women's fiction that also has quite funny moments as well. What I enjoyed about it was the everyday situations and life happenings to a normal couple. Both had issues they have had to deal with as kids, but also in their adult life, and I adored how they helped each other through these problems. Vulnerability comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes and it's not a one fits all solution so it is all the more special that Kitty and Miles can see through the white noise and lean on each other.

Not all heroes and heroines need to be billionaires or corporate leaders, nor do they have to be extra ordinary humans, and it is still a great book when it's a fun loving cat sitter meeting a data analyst who works for a hockey team. Kitty is a little quirky and has a heart of gold and looking after cats and kittens is a dream job. Meeting Miles at his mother's house wasn't exactly love at first sight, but luckily Kitty gave Miles the benefit of the doubt. This book is not only about cute animals (the Great Dane gets bonus points from me! 😂) but it also highlights obstacles dealing with dementia, family loss, viral videos and mental health. These are commonplace dilemmas most of us have had to combat too although probably with not so many animals at one time. What you will find in this book is a heartfelt love story that was kismet for this couple.

As a lifelong cat person, I was excited to read A Love Catastrophe. A romance featuring a cat-sitter and heaps of adorable pets? Sign me up! Fittingly, I read this whole book with my own cat either in my lap or right by my side; she’s an excellent reading buddy.

Early on, A Love Catastrophe feels like a fun and silly book. Kitty and Miles are both so awkward (occasionally cringey), especially around each other, and they butt heads right away due to Miles being not only a dog lover, but a (shudder) cat hater. He doesn’t hide his disdain for felines either, which understandably rubs Kitty the wrong way. But as it so happens, he’s not so bad… and he may eventually come around to realizing how sweet and awesome cats are.

However, don’t be fooled by the cutesy premise! A Love Catastrophe goes into some surprisingly emotional directions. Miles’s mother has dementia, and a major plot point is dealing with her cognitive decline and need to be placed in a new home. Both Miles and Kitty have experienced painful losses: His younger brother died in childhood, and her father died when she was a teenager. There are a lot of heart-to-heart conversations surrounding grief, guilt, and a family’s difficulty in moving forward after tragedy. It’s heavy, so have your tissues ready. Personally, I identified with many of these themes. I’ve also lost my father and have seen a grandmother suffer through dementia, so these aspects cut close for me.

Another major theme here is Kitty’s professional journey. Later in the book, we get to see her work through growing pains as her business expands. I love seeing a woman entrepreneur experience career success, and although Kitty faces some tough circumstances, it’s overall an empowering side story.

A Love Catastrophe weaves in a lot: Family relationships and grief, career growth, and a steamy romance that goes from awkward to sweet to truly wholesome. It’s a tad cringey in parts, but the overall substance and joy makes up for those parts.

A Love Catastrophe is paws-itively delightful, both during the laugh-out-loud scenes and during the tear-jerkers. It’s a love story not just between a new couple, but also between family members and for the cats and dogs in our lives. If you love pets or family dynamics, this is a romance worth reading.
