Description

The case seemed open and shut. But there are secrets below the surface that somebody will kill to protect…

When an unidentifiable body turns up at an abandoned water park, expert criminalist Ellie Matthews is recruited to once again step into a puzzling investigation that has “cold case” written all over it. Still nursing old wounds as she navigates a tense relationship with her former partner, and frustrated over a dead-end investigation, Ellie finds solace in her close friend, Vic Manetti.

Ellie barely has time to regroup before a beloved local reporter is found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Paired up with a lively out-of-town detective and tasked with unraveling a complex network of leads, Ellie begins to retrace the explosive stories that the late journalist had been working on—only to uncover heinous secrets that somebody is willing to kill to protect.

The closer she looks, the more tangled the case becomes. With the media ready to condemn the reporter’s husband as a monster, Ellie and her new partner must put their lives on the line to expose the sinister truth behind the murders—and to avoid becoming victims themselves.

The case seemed open and shut. But there are secrets below the surface that somebody will kill to protect…

Good book and series! This book had suspense, intrigue, action, great police work and a great who done it! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! Parted by Death by Caroline Fardig is a 4 out of 5 stars for me. I liked all the characters, especially Ellie, who is a strong female protagonist. Even Sterling, with his sarcastic and caustic behavior, was likable. Baxter, at first, was kind of irritating and frustrating. I wanted to yell, "Just tell Ellie what's on your mind already!" But the storyline played out, and the reasons why he was aloof.

Parted by Death had an intriguing storyline and fun to try to figure out why people were killed. It was a bit unbelievable at the end and who the culprit was and the reason why.

Overall, this is a good series. I am looking forward to reading more from this author. I really did enjoy the characters and the setting, and Parted by Death had good, solid writing that kept my interest with enough clues to keep me guessing.

Great characters, amazing detail on the investigative process and wonderful supporting back stories to a clever main plot. I couldn’t believe it when I got to the end of it as I wanted more - it’s not exactly a cliffhanger but kind of. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

Criminalist Ellie Matthews is still recuperating from the difficult last case she took on for the police. Her former partner, Nick, and now love interest is giving her a colder shoulder than she had expected, so she is finding support and friendship with Vic, the FBI agent injured in the last case. She is called in to assist with the discovery of a murder victim without any ID. Just as that case is declared "cold," a high profile murder of a news reporter and a professor colleague of Ellie requires her assistance. As she struggles to figure out what's happening with Nick, she works with the team to solve the murders and find the killer. It's a complicated case that will require a great deal of creative thinking from Ellie. I look forward to reading the next book.

You know a book is good when it finishes too soon and leaves you wanting more! This is a tense, exciting and fast paced detective who done it. The characters are all really well written, great and interesting characters and larger than life. The story starts with a murder, several more stack up and a plot of intrigue, lies, cheating and dishonesty slowly reveals itself. Clues come left right and centre, but it is a whole before all the pieces fall into place. This had me hooked right until the end. A great tale, involving, confusing, frustrating and then finally it all makes sense. I loved every moment of this, I was with the main characters all the way and will certainly recommend highly.

I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publishers in exchange for an honest review. This is the fourth in the Ellie Matthews Series. This is the first book that I have read by this author. I really enjoyed reading this mystery and immersing myself into the character’s lives. Considering that I didn’t read the first three books; I didn’t feel that I was missing any of the important pieces of the characters because the author caught you up in one form or another. It had your romance, murder, red herrings and plenty of suspects in this novel.

You are introduced to Ellie Matthews an expert criminalist who teaches at a college and sometimes is recruited to work with the police. For the last couple of months Ellie has refused to take any cases and is just helping Vic to recover from his injuries from their last case and to think over her life. Vic ends up telling her that she needs to stop worrying about him and start to get back to what she does best. Ellie then accepts a “murder/homicide” case from the police and starts to go back to what she loves. This case isn’t as easy as it looks and the information, they are finding is looking more and more as a “homicide/homicide” case. Not only is Ellie busy trying to work along with a former college friend but also her with her former partner who she felt that she had a love connection with who is now acting very standoffish. Read to find out whether or not this is a homicide/homicide case, does Ellie get her man in her life and does she continue with her consulting with the police.

The Ellie Matthews series is soooo great! When my request for #4 Parted by Death was approved, i realized that I had to read #3 Dead Sprint first. I thoroughly enjoyed my marathon reading of these two books this week.

Ellie was called out to a crime scene at her least favorite place, an abandoned park with a clown theme. The dead body had no identifiers and the victim was killed elsewhere so it was classified a cold case.

The next case was an apparent murder-suicide, but it looked like it had been set up to look that way. Ellie and the rest of the task force need to find the truth by following the facts, wherever they lead.

I love the complexity of the Ellie Matthews stories. Each of the characters stays true to their history in the previous books. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
