Description
In 1969, René yearns to climb the world’s highest peaks. Having lost his father to the war in Vietnam, and estranged from his mother, he borrows the money needed for an expedition to Mt. McKinley in Alaska.
Before the trip, his grandfather gives him a family amulet that provides glimpses of the future. Its prescience helps René avoid several accidents but the disturbing visions of the upcoming climb are too fuzzy to decipher.
Ascending the mountain the six climbers face crevasses, avalanches, storms, and team conflict. René must reconcile the visions to prevent disaster, but what he experiences is beyond his imagination.

Thank you Netgalley for the eARC.
This book has an interesting and unique storyline blending magical realism, fantasy and environmental fiction. I liked how the author employed these diverse genres and brought them together nicely. The use of language was also well executed.
However, the book felt jumbled. In the beginning, I kept waiting for the characters to get to the mountain, which I percieved as the main story point, but it tok a bit too long for that to happen in my opinion. There were also several different point of views in the story, and not all of them made sense to me. The book got interesting mainly in the second half, which I found better than the first.
