Description
Helen Lipscomb seemingly has nowhere to go but down. Cashiered from the force, ostracized by most of her former acquaintances, and with no real connections left to the community, she's been getting by as a sort of unofficial investigator, doing piecework for various lawyers and bail bondsmen. Her former life as a homicide detective seems far behind her until a notorious serial killer, locked away and facing the death penalty, offers her the challenge of a lifetime. Not to prove his innocence, but to prove him guilty of even more murders than the authorities suspect, murders for which another convicted man, several states away, is taking credit.

I really enjoyed how well this was suspenseful and how good the story was. I enjoyed trying to figure out what was going on and how the characters interacted with the plot. It had everything that I was looking for and it worked well overall. The characters were written well and they felt like real people. I enjoyed the way Kevin R. Doyle wrote this and can't wait for more.
"Lewis grimaced. “If you say so. The point is, when he dropped the names on me, I sent them up the line. Once the bodies were found, they allowed me access to the files so I could best counsel him, at least until someone higher up steps in.” Helen frowned, working the intricacies out in her head. “And the feds are okay with this?” she finally asked."
