Description

From Paige Crutcher, the author of The Orphan Witch and The Lost Witch, comes a new tale about a witch, a book of magic, and a beguiling and powerful creature whom she must free, even if it puts her life and soul at stake.

Aline Weir, a witch who can talk to ghosts, has kept her talents hidden ever since a disastrous middle school slumber party, choosing to be invisible and use her powers in secret to help lost souls reunite with the keys to send them home. All the while, she finds solace in a bookstore and the three mysterious women who run it… until Aline discovers the book of Mischief, and her powers are enhanced.

Living a solitary life until the age of thirty, Aline’s life takes an unexpected turn when the wrong (or perhaps right) person witnesses her using her powers and she is invited to a town that doesn’t exist on any map. Arriving in Matchstick, Aline learns of a lost magic that desperately needs to be found and only her unique powers can do it. But what she’s not told is that Magic is a person. One that is dangerous and seductive and has been waiting for a witch with a power like hers for centuries.

"What Became of Magic" by Paige Crutcher is a captivating and magical tale that will keep you hooked until the very end. The story follows Aline Weir, a witch who has kept her powers hidden ever since a traumatic incident in middle school. But when she discovers the book of Mischief, her powers are enhanced, and she finds herself on an unexpected journey to a town that doesn't exist on any map.

Aline's adventure takes a dangerous turn when she learns of a lost magic that needs to be found and is told that only her unique powers can do it. However, what she doesn't know is that Magic is a seductive and dangerous person who has been waiting for a witch with powers like hers for centuries.

The plot is well-crafted, and the pacing is just right, keeping the reader engaged throughout. The characters are well-developed, and Aline's journey from a reclusive witch to a powerful one is inspiring. The author's writing style is descriptive and immersive, bringing the magical world of Matchstick to life.

Overall, "What Became of Magic" is a delightful and enchanting tale that will transport you to a world of witches, magic, and the power of self-discovery. If you're a fan of fantasy and paranormal genres, this book is a must-read.

Another great book from Paige Crutcher, I've enjoyed previous books from the author. I enjoyed how good everything that was happening in this novel. The characters were what I was looking for and they worked well overall with the story. I can't wait to see what comes next from Paige Crutcher.

"There were so many things about Magic that confused Day. Rules that shifted and changed. Day wished Night were around more often, so Day could ask Night why change was so confusing, and why Day was stuck here. When the sun set, Day could almost remember why, but then the thought was gone, and Night was always quick to brush in and rush out so that even when he tried to stay, he ended up pulled away."
