I was mainly interested in this because of the title and it really lived up to it. This was so good. Another one that I definitely want to read again in the fall because I think it would be such an AMAZING fall read, especially on a rainy day with a candle or sitting by the fire eating smores!!

This book has surpassed every expectation I had!

When I read the summary, I was immediately intrigued, but I wasn't prepared for how wrapped up I'd become in the story!

Music has always been a huge influence in my household and I was surprised by how many of the 80s metal bands I actually knew. I shouldn't have been surprised since I was practically raised on 80s rock, but to see how many of these bands influenced music in other countries and the author herself was amazing to read/see.

The premise of the story takes us through a teens desire to uncover the mystery behind his namesakes death while excepting a position at in a haunted house at the local amusement park.

We'll also be taken through the past when death metal was being born in Sweden and the lives of his father and bandmates.

Though the story is occult horror, there is a psychological aspect to the story that will have you wondering what is real and what isn't.

I really enjoyed the idea of a death metal mystery, and it worked well overall. I enjyoed the way Sara B. Elfgren wrote this and getting to go on this journey. The plot worked well in the mystery genre and it was a great mystery. I enjoyed getting to know the characters themselves and they worked well in the plot of the book. I can't wait to read more from Sara B. Elfgren.

"The psychologist had told Kasper not to be ashamed that his friends had abandoned him. The moment she’d said it, he’d felt even more ashamed. He got an image in his head of an abandoned, whining puppy who’d been kicked out of the house and still wouldn’t stop scratching at the door."

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I really wanted to review Grim because I seemed like something I never read before. I was 100% correct and not just about the story it also reads like song. I don't know how to describe it, but the closest I can get is that the style feels
Like it has an edge. You feel like you are in the story and you get annoyed at every Son of Nordin for Kasper.

Some rough language, but in this metal landscape it seems fitting

Death metal mystery is not a genre I would claim to know of, or read. Yet Elfgren's book was a delightful fright that had me hiding under the covers all night to finish the book.

Two parallel stories about two boys descending into darkness. Because even though the themes of this book are difficult, the relatable characters at the heart of Grim are only children, haunted by shadows they struggle to control. Grim hits a sweet spot between slow burn and page-turner, and as I devoured this book the pages started dripping with a dreamlike horror told in a way that at the same time felt genuinely human.
