Description

When Gia thinks about losing her dog, she succumbs to fear and is overcome by waves of sadness. Can she learn to embrace these emotions and ride the waves to a place of peace?

Gia loves her dog Cinnamon, but the thought of losing him sends her into floods of tears. She tries to fight back against the sadness she feels, but her emotional waves are too strong and carry her out to sea.

Yet all is not lost. On Gia's journey she discovers how to feel safe around all kinds of emotions, including sadness. And learns that if she can accept the full rainbow of emotions, she'll see how they make our lives beautiful and unique. And see the bond between emotions and relationships.

Kate Koo has used her own experience to craft a healing story in this book. It's hard for kids to understand that it's ok to not feel happy all the time. What can a parent do when sadness is at your door such as dealing with the grief loss of a pet can cause. But this book's gentle wave metaphor will provide courage for kids dealing with grief. And even help parents better understand feelings for kids.

This beautiful picture book is unlike any other you've read before. It stands toe-to-toe with classic social emotional skills books such as The Invisible String by Patrice Karst, The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld and Little Spot of Emotion series by Diane Alber as a gentle sadness reliever. It delivers the social emotional learning kids need, in one of the best emotional intelligence books for kids on the market.

Discover how your family can discuss emotions and help your kids understand the grieving journey in Kate Koo's evocative and gorgeous healing story, Gia and the Waves of Sadness. After all, every home library should have an emotions and feelings book for kids.

The mystical realness of this book brings to life the true struggle of handling sadness and the fear that comes with it. It is a great book to help teach children about sadness and how to cope. It was an easy read and even helped me. I now think of this book and how Gia handled her sadness anytime I feel sad.
