The Chalice War: Cauldron

David B. Coe does a great job in creating a mystery in the fantasy genre, it had me from the beginning. I enjoyed every part of the concept and was engaged in what was going on in the world. I enjoyed the unsolved murder element and really enjoyed getting to know the characters.

Another winner of a fantasy book from David B. Coe. This guy doesn't get anywhere near the notoriety that he deserves in my opinion. The Winds of the Forelands series is one of my all-time favorites and this one is right up there in quality and storytelling. Albeit this one leans a little more toward the urban fantasy side. Still an amazing tale that no one should miss.

Riann lives in Sidney, denying her magical side as much as she can. When strange things start happening, she can no longer deny her magic and team's up with the very people she's been avoiding to stop evildoers from stealing an important magical object.

I haven't read the first book, and perhaps that would've helped explain some of the background on the various magical beings. I did find it irritating that we weren't told how to pronounce Sidhe until almost halfway through the book, but, again, that was probably explained in the first book. I enjoyed all the action in the book; it definitely got my heart pumping even if I was just sitting down doing nothing more than reading. I felt some of the transitions were too fast and too jerky, so to speak. Not smooth enough. I enjoyed reading a lot of the background. Some of the plot points felt anticlimactic, like when Riann explains why she blames herself for her father's death. I thought there was too much self hate, given what happened, but at the same time I realize I've never been through that so perhaps people do react that way. I thought this was a good book, I really enjoyed the humor, and recommend it but maybe start with the first book.

An excellent sequel to Stone. This book covers the second in magical artifacts that are important for pinning magic into the world of men. The main character is a Sidhe who left America for Australia after the death of her father at the hands of the fomoire. Her adventure in this book to save a magical artifact is exciting and non stop action. The writing was excellent, the world well defined and the characters had depth. It was hard to put down until it was finished. An excellent urban fantasy using Celtic mythology.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story that mixes urban fantasy and thriller. Entertaining, well written, featuring a solid mystery.
Liked and enjoyed it.
