Description

In the blink of an eye...

Quinn Sterling—part-time investigator and owner of Sterling Farms—expected the day to go well. Expected all of Craven County to put in an appearance at the much-anticipated, annual Fourth of July celebration on the farm grounds. Expected the temperature would hit hot-enough-to-peel-the-paint-off-a-pickup-truck.

What she did not expect was the appearance of a long-lost uncle and new cousin.

And she certainly never expected the county sheriff to seriously question her childhood friend, deputy Ty Jackson, as a suspect in the murder of his ex-wife Natalie in the next county over. When Ty is carted off mid-celebration by his boss and in front of his eight-year-old son Cole, Quinn realizes that she may be the only one willing to believe in his innocence regardless of damning evidence to the contrary.

With the murder out of her county, Quinn has no contacts to lean on. She has no standing in the investigation. What she can do is make sure Ty has the best defense attorney in the state while she finds a way to prove what her heart knows.

Even if that means crossing every line she's ever drawn for herself in pursuit of the real killer.

Quinn is the serious main character in this novel, written by a talented author. Intrigue and mystery complete this story. The other characters add to the suspense and keep the story moving quickly. This is a page turner. A cannot put down mystery. Thanks to Netgalley.

Craven County Line by C. Hope Clark is Southern crime fiction set in the fictional Craven County. A story about complicated relationships and the pull of the Low Country that its residents understand.

"At the annual Fourth of July celebration on Sterling Farms, Quinn Sterling expected everything to go well even with the typical Low Country heat and humidity. What she didn't expect was a long-lost uncle and new cousin to show up. Or for her good friend Ty to be carried away for questioning because his ex-wife has been murdered.
Quinn knows the Sheriff's office will not work to clear Ty, especially because his actions don't look good. So Ex-FBI Agent Quinn will do it herself to save her friend."

This is a crime procedural but with the addition of the complicated triangle between Quinn, Jonah and Ty. It's not really a love triangle - just three people who care deeply about each other. The relationship with Archie and new cousin, Glory is complicated also - just like people.
Quinn follows the clues and Clark keeps us guessing about Ty. It sure looks like he did it. Did he or didn't he? More bodies pile up before Quinn finds the answers. I like how Quinn and her uncles deal with an old nemesis. It'll be interesting to see which direction Clark takes the story.
You should enjoy this if you like your crime fiction with some extra layers.

Another fantastic mystery by C Hope Clark. I am constantly impressed with the way her mind works to craft a story.

I love this series - the characters are so fleshed out, the storyline is intriguing and it's just such an interesting series to read. Quinn, Jonah and Ty have such a unique relationship and when Ty is a prime murder suspect, the other two will go to all ends to prove his innocence. It's an explosive 4th of July, a murder, a long-lost uncle, an unknown cousin and more.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

Things are not going according to plan for the Fourth of July celebrations on Sterling Farms, where the pecans are not all that's nutty. There is a lot going on, and there are tangles aplenty emerging as the scenario unfolds at breakneck speed.

For Quinn Sterling, it is one unexpected event after another on this scorching day. When an unfamiliar uncle shows up, with a cousin in tow, that could easily have been assumed to be the biggest surprise the day was likely to bring. But that assumption couldn't have been more wrong.

Amidst the celebrations, one of her oldest friends, Deputy Ty Jackson, is dragged off by law enforcement officers in front of his young son - allegedly for the murder of his wife in a neighbouring county.

Quinn appears to be one of the few people willing to stand by him. And as a former FBI agent and a current private investigator, she is better placed than many to determine the truth behind what is happening. In the process of doing so however, she crosses a few red lines. The mercury is rising, and there's no sign of things settling down anytime soon...

Clark's love for South Carolina shines through in her writing. Her characters are warm and relatable, and this mystery is exciting and well-written, with all the loose ends neatly tied up at the conclusion of the story. This book will undoubtedly add to her existing fan base.
