Description

The inheritors of a country estate are up in arms about eco-warriors on their land, but just how far will they go?

DCI Ben James and DS Jack Trent are called out to a community of self-sufficient environmental activists to investigate the discovery of human remains buried in their grounds.

The bones are not easy to identify, and the activists don’t seem to know how they ended up there.

DCI James’s girlfriend, the ever-inquisitive journalist Stacey Logan, decides to do some investigating of her own.

But tragedy strikes, and the police now have a full-scale murder investigation on their hands.

Someone is prepared to go to extreme lengths to protect what they believe is theirs by right.

Who can stop them?

A very good book. Excellent storyline and great for this genre of authors.

Having read all of Nicola's previous books in this series i was delighted to receive this arc through net galley.

Catching up with the gang is always a joy and this latest instalment didnt disappoint. A fast paced book which i raced through needing to know if Stacey and her policeman boyfriend caught the baddies.

I especially love this series as it is set around my local area, indeed my own small town gets a mention in this one.

An easy 5 stars. Highly recommend

I found this to be an exceptionally entertaining read. I was drawn in by the description of the group "living underground" and off the land. The author did an amazing job of describing how this is possible and made it sound almost idyllic. I like books that no matter the genre I am able learn something I didn't know before.

When a body is found buried with very few identifiers, the clock is ticking as the detectives try to find out whose corpse it is, and why it was buried in that location.

At times there seemed to be too many characters, but as the crimes started to compound, it was easy to see why there were so many misdirections.

From the outset it was clear that the detective's home life with his reporter partner Stacey would interfere the investigation, but I think it was interesting the way the two were intertwined. I was really surprised at the turn that the investigation took, making catching the killer much more personal.
From the character descriptions to the description of the surroundings, you felt invested in finding out who did what, why and when, and in deciphering the clues along side the detectives.

I high recommend the book and will be going back to read the first in the series. I hope there is more to come!
I was provided a copy of this book from NetGalley in return for my unbiased review.

Nicola Clifford does a fantastic job in this mystery novel, it had everything that I wanted from the description. I was engaged with the story and how it flowed with the other eight books in this series.
