Description

From the author of the hit humor book Men to Avoid in Art and Life comes this tongue-in-cheek collection of cats' innermost thoughts.

Cat people love their cats deeply . . . maybe a little too deeply. Cats, on the other hand, secretly hate our haircuts but tolerate our presence because we have the thumbs to open the food can. Against the backdrop of fine art, bestselling author Nicole Tersigni delves into the minds of our feline companions and the people who serve them.

Broken into five sections representing all kinds of cat people, including the Smotherer, the Oversharer, the Pushover, the Proud Parent, and the Roommate, this hilariously insightful cat humor book says the things our loved ones can’t—that Mewlius Caesar would enjoy us more if we gave them some space. And a better name.

The sarcasm and art is perfect. I had to catch my breath from laughing so hard before I could continue on some pages. I absolutely loved it! Highly recommend for anyone with a great sense of humor. Thanks NetGallery!

I was drawn to this book by its title, and being a self-proclaimed cat person, I found it thoroughly entertaining and funny! While some pages are funnier than others, overall, I feel the author humorously captured the voice of a sassy, judgmental cat. True cat people will appreciate the humor. It would make a delightful gift for fellow feline enthusiasts. Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book!

As a cat person I had to grab this when I saw it on NetGalley. Hilarious! A must read for every cat person! Made me LOL multiple times.

Thanks to the author and publisher for the e-arc I received in exchange for my honest review.

I love cats, art and humor. This book has all three. I loved every single picture and comment. I only wish this book were longer as it brought me to tears (of laughter). I plan to look for Nicole Tersigni’s other books as I liked this one so much.

This is the fourth book by the author placing funny captions on works of art. The focus on this one is paintings with cats, often focusing on what the cat may be thinking or saying. I can see this as a gift for cat lovers or a funny book to check out from a library. It reads quickly and doesn’t cause you to think too deeply. I love art and that was one of the main draws for me. The humor was very hit or miss. I appreciate that there is a listing of many of the art titles, artists and museums in the ending credits. And several of the paintings seem to be in the public domain. Thank you to Chronicle Books for the temporary ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

I love these little books. Men to Avoid in Art and Life was a fun read that made me chuckle. Being a cat lover, I knew I needed to read this book and I loved it! So many fun pictures and the cat comments are spot on!

As with Nicole's other books this one is a fun look at art with a dash of humor. I am not a cat person but I have friends who are and these remind me of stories I have heard from them over the years. Several were laugh out loud even for me. This is a perfect gift book for those cat people out there.

Thank you to NetGalley for an eARC copy of this book.

I absolutely adore this book. It is the perfect blend of humor and art. I loved Men to Avoid in Art and Life and Friends to Keep in Art and Life, so I knew that it would be just the perfect book to flip through. The silly captions line up perfectly and, as a cat owner, it made me smile. I highly recommend this for anyone who has ever had a pet cat or just loves cats in general.

I read two of her other books, Men to Avoid in Art and Life and Parenting Advice to Ignore in Art and Life. Both of these books are beyond hilarious and in her cat book, it is equally good, especially if you like cats. I am not a cat person, but I still thoroughly enjoyed her book. Do be sure to catch her earlier books, as they are incredibly funny. Maybe because I am a Man and I am a Parent, I laughed louder and longer at those than at the present one. I am not a cat. But, were I a cat, I would find this book even more hilarious than the aforementioned two.

A silly, light-hearted joke of a book that would make a good gift for most cat lovers. Each painting features a line or two of added dialogues, first for the human, and then the cat's response.
One of my favorites shows a man behind a bar with a cat curled up on the floor next to him. The superimposed dialogue for the man says "We've already sampled too many. I don't think we should have another." The cat is simply saying "*hiccup*".
Another favorite is the woman wearing a flower crown and holding a little branch of leaves up to her cat. She says "I got this for you so we can have matching flower crowns." The cat, while pawing at the branch, is saying "Don't the neighbors talk about us enough?"
I also very much like the painting of a man sitting in a chair with a cat on his lap. He's saying "I guess I'll cancel my plans for the rest of the day," to which the cat responds, "You're awfully chatty for a chair."

Be aware that many of the jokes are somewhat sophomoric (lots of cat butthole jokes, and litterbox jokes, but those are low-hanging fruit when it comes to making cat-related jokes, so I can't say I'm surprised). Quite a few about humans going to the bathroom as well. I mention this only to help you gauge if it would be the right fit for you / the recipient. (For example, one of my friends would think those jokes are hilarious, but another one of my friends would find it childish, so different strokes for different folks.) And be aware that there are also two jokes that could be read as ageist (they both make fun of an elderly person for having bathroom issues / incontinence). It's an odd stumble for a book that is otherwise pretty inoffensive, especially since these captions could be written about literally anything.

Overall, if you like cats and don't mind a bit of toilet-related humor, you'll likely love this fun little book.

As a certified cat person I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy of this book so my cat can push it off the coffee table. It’s so funny and perfect.

Loved this one! So fun and full of good cat moments for all stages of life. Meow! If you are a cat parent as I am, I am sure you will find humor and enjoyment as I did.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this arc.

This was so funny!! My favorite was the proud parent section. I got really close to peeing my pants while reading this book. I definitely will be gifting it to a dear cat loving cousin who will most likely be texting me photos of the book throughout her day. If you ever have a gloomy day just prop this up and it will bring a smile to your face and a chuckle to your chest!
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I have read every single one of Nicole’s books and own Men to Avoid in Art and Life. Every book since is fantastic. This one is no exception. Funny, gorgeous art work, and a necessary read even if you don’t have cats.

This was a cute and quick read. I had no idea how many times cats get featured in art and find it so hilarious that we've loved our cats this much always. The book was witty and funny, with some being funnier than others. My cat would definitely approve!

This was a fun combo of classic artwork and snarky cat/human dialogue. It's really easy to just page through it, and I snorted with laughter at a couple of the panels. Anyone who lives with a cat will relate.

For cat lovers and classic art lovers – even more so if you are both. Nicole Tersigni amusingly adds imagined cat commentary to classic artwork, and she perfectly captures cat attitude on every page. For me, this book was not as laugh-out-loud funny as other reviews suggested it would be. Most of the pages I found myself nodding and smiling [and thinking: yes, that’s very true!] with an occasional audible chuckle. I read this through once and enjoyed the commentary; then I read it a second time to really appreciate the artwork. I read this as an e-ARC and I believe I would have enjoyed the hard cover version of this book much more. A small screen is just not a good medium for consuming art. And that is why I would absolutely buy a physical copy as a gift for any cat owner/lover. It’s a quick, amusing read, and it’s fun to see (and realize) how often cats show up in classic artwork.
My thanks to Nicole Terisgni, NetGalley and Chronicle Books, for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book.

This was a hilarious little book. I just loved the sarcasm and humor, mixed with cat art. It gave me a lot of chuckles and LOL moments.
Great book for (adults) who love cats, art and snark!

Excuse me while I go decorate my house exclusively with cat Art. I loved the collection of Art and thought the captions were funny and relatable.

As a cat person, I can appreciate the humor that is Cat People to Judge in Art and Life.

From the introduction you can tell Nicole Tersigni is a cat person. Anyone who is can relate.

Some of the works were laugh out loud funny, others got a good chuckle, and a few missed the mark (for me) but I can appreciate the sentiment.

Perfect gift for a cat lover in your life.

Thank you NetGalley for an advanced cope of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Such a hilariously adorable quick read! I never realized just how many cats are in classic art till now. The sarcasm/humor was purrfect and not over the top. This would be a perfect gift for any cat lover!

This was so cute! It made me laugh out loud multiple times. I think I’ve said some of these things to my cats… (and they’ve probably thought some of the replies back.)

Kudos to the author for the amount of research put in to find so many examples of cats in art, primarily European paintings. The imagined conversations between owner and cat on each page were amusing, and some might feel very relatable for cat owners.

I think that the book could have been enhanced by including humorous commentary on the included paintings. Some of them are real head scratchers, and I would have loved if the author had revealed more of the actual history and not only imagined conversations.

This book will certainly be a well-received gift for cat owners of a certain ilk.

This book stood out to me immediately because I consider myself a professional cat lady! So there isn't a world where I would skip out on a HILARIOUS! I will definitely be buying copies for all my friends and family in September when this is published! I absolutely LOVED this!

This book takes classic works of art and adds in snarky and humourous human and cat captions. The author did an amazing job matching the artwork to the captions. There were several that were very funny and some that I didn't quite relate to personally. That being said, there's something for every cat owner in this book that would leave them snickering.

There are some good pictures with some good dialogues. Then there are some that are okay. Finally, there are some that maybe should have just let the picture do the speakinf as they're a stretch to be amusing.

I love cats, I love art, and I loved this little humor book. This would make a perfect gift for your favorite cat person. As an art lover, I loved all of the cat-featuring artworks and appreciated the index of art credits at the end. The art and text pairings are hilarious and inventive.

Thank you for the EArc NetGalley and Chronicle. I adore this line of books and I am so impressed with how many timeless works of art the author finds that fit the narrative. This brings together cats, art and humor into one space that reads quickly but is very enjoyable.

This is a perfect living room or vet office book for cat and art lovers alike. The pairing of funny quotes and images was often clever and worth a chuckle. However, I think this could be a one and done read.

I can see myself purchasing this for my grandfather-whom loves cats dearly- and him enjoying it many reads through.

I would say that 95 percent of the art styles and portraits were European paintings from the 1700-1800s. I would have loved to see some ancient or 20th and 21st century depictions of cats and their owners. Perhaps some photography would be cool too.

I received this book from Net Galley/publisher in exchange for an honest review of my opinion.

I thought this was a lot of fun because it combined two of my favorite things, great artwork and cats. The captions were clever. This would be a great gift or coffee table book.
