The secrets have bloomed . . . beware of the thorns.

Ivy Rune is shocked to receive a position at the Count’s forbidden castle, until the Count’s charming young heir, Jack reveals her late father’s connection there. Ivy accepts, determined to finally uncover her father’s secret life and learn more about her magic.

But the castle holds more secrets than her father’s last journal. Unspoken rules govern the halls, danger lurks around every corner, and knowing who to trust is impossible. Soon it’s clear that her father's secrets are not the only ones hidden in these walls—others are keeping secrets too.

Advance Praise

"Sara Knightly outdid herself with this sequel to Secrets Ever Green. It holds even more questions, mystery and magic than its predecessor, along with an added eerie and unsettling undertone. Her writing is just as gorgeously descriptive, mystic and enthralling as ever, and I found myself completely submerged in life at the castle, so much so that I stayed up until 7:30am to reach the final page!"

"While Secrets Ever Green set the stage, Castle Ever Dark throws us into the intrigue and action. The struggle is real for Ivy, who soon realizes she is in over her head and is trying to survive while remaining true to herself. I enjoyed the fact that there was more action in this story, even if at times, like Ivy, we just want answers and not more unknowns. The Dome was terrifying! But I was pleased to see how Ivy continued to grow and I loved the group of friends and allies she had amassed by the end. It’s definitely YA, but I enjoyed reading this book and I look forward to the next one!"

"Castle Ever Dark is an excellent continuation of Ivy's tale. It starts just after the previous book leaves off, with Ivy in the castle as she tries to unravel the mysteries of Dr. Ply's research, the Dark Woods, and what is going on with the Transposers, including her childhood best friend, York. Ivy's intrepid spirit never falters, despite numerous setbacks and never knowing who to trust. There is also a sweet romance subplot. I thought the writing was very atmospheric, and I was eager to find out what happens next. There is definitely a feel-good moment at the end with a slight victory, but I would be very interested to see how Ivy's story continues in the next book!"

"This is the sequel to Secrets Ever Green, and I loved this one just as much as I ended up loving the first book in the series. So many different secrets, some answers, twists and turns and new characters to love along with some old favorites. Love the magic. Love the mystery and how it unfolds."

Castle Ever Dark continues Ivy Rune’s story from Secrets Ever Green. Ivy finds herself in the Count’s castle, working as an assistant to Dr. Ply. Her position is precarious, because Dr. Ply doesn’t reveal much about his work and Ivy must earn his trust to receive more information. As she discovers other people in the castle, she is unsure of who to trust. There are secrets around every corner, and Ivy is determined to find out more about her father and what the Count and Dr. Ply have planned for the Transposers in the castle, including her best friend York.

I really enjoyed the continued mystery of Ivy’s story in book two of The Everlight Series. Knightly does a great job with the new characters in the Castle, and makes you unsure of who can be trusted.

Some of the questions from book one are answered, and Knightly sets up new questions that I’m looking forward to being revealed in the next book. Poor Ivy never seems to catch a break, but we finally see some good things happening for her in Castle Ever Dark and I felt so relieved for her character.

The atmosphere of the Castle is done really well. I liked how Ivy discovered different parts of it, and the descriptions of the settings in the Castle give you a feeling of how good and evil co-exists in the same place, among the different characters. Cora and Dr. Ply are really intriguing opposites in the story.

It was also nice to have some chapters from the Count’s POV, so we could get more of a first-hand look at his character. I am interested to find out more about him and the White Forest.

Castle Ever Dark is a fantastic read, if you enjoy YA based fantasy and magic. There is also a great gothic feel to the book, and a lot of mystery to keep the story interesting.
