Heart of a Hunter is intended to be the first of the Hell on Heels series by Tamela Miles. And while the initial installment shows promise there are a number of issues with the overall story that detract from the end product.
For example, the age of the protagonist, Elle, is supposed to be eighteen near the end of the story. She is attending a Christmas party as a senior in High School. Where I grew up you turned eighteen in the same year that you graduated High School. She couldn't have turned eighteen prior to Christmas in order for her to be in High School.
Her initial meeting with Tagas, her guardian angel, and her acceptance of him seems somewhat contrived. We have no background on her and whether or not she is devoutly religious. Even a few "She rubbed the cross that hung from her neck, a present from grandparents that she never knew" statements, or something similar, would give the reader the impression that she is religious and accepting of divinity. As it is, an angel comes out of nowhere, saves her, and she immediately accepts him for who he is.
The idea that Hell wants her dead, at any cost, is not echoed through the rest of the book. Her friend, K.D., had plenty of opportunity to kill her, but did not, waiting for the vaunted Christmas party to attack. If Hell truly wanted her dead there were plenty of other opportunities that went to waste.
The imagination of the author is evident, but some beta readers would have made the end product much better.

This is a very short story. Since it is so short a lot of the backstory is not explained. Elle is a demon hunter who is just discovering her skills. She receives training from a guardian Angel, Tagas. By the end of the book she is ready to be on her own and is ready for revenge. This is an OK start to a series but the characters and the story need to be expanded. I did the main character and the LA setting.

A big Thank you to NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for the ARC for my honest review.

First time reading this author.

This is a short intro into a new series. Elle is a young woman who has issues at home, who suddenly meets Tagas who is an angel and her teacher...okay she is awful trusting. While I think there were some flaws in the story, I found it to be quick paced and I liked the characters. It is an interesting story with lots of potential. I think this is a story that most young adults and people who like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that type of story will enjoy. Give a go=let me know what you think.

Couldn't connect with the writing. It read like connecting the dots, and very bluntly doing so. I couldn't make it very far into this one. A shame, the storyline sounded promising, but some beta readers and a story editor would go a long way
