A.E. Easterlin’s latest novel “A Necessary Woman,” is a tale of the strength and courage that it took to survive in the late 1800’s in the Wyoming frontier. Suzanna Worthington had spent the war tending to the wounded while mourning the deaths of her fiancé and her parents, but now five years after the war she finds herself restless and wanting more from life. Jake Cantrell is a man of the land and after building his ranching empire he desires to have a wife to stand beside him and children to carry on his legacy, so he contacts his brother in Alabama to help him solve his dilemma. Suzanna is not sure what to make of the match that is proposed by her good friend Nathan to his brother Jake, but she realizes that what lays ahead is better than the idea of being alone. Together Jake and Suzanna forge a relationship that often tests the limits of their love, but they strive to cling to the love they feel for each other. This is a must read a novel for those that believe in the romance of the old west. Ms. Easterlin has created a fast paced read with characters that makes the reader recognize the pioneer spirit that lives in all of us. I was given this book to read by the author in exchange for an honest review

I was grateful to receive a free copy of Necessary Woman. In my opinion this book was Ok. I think there could have been more character development. Also, I couldn't get into Jake at all. He seemed self absorbed and arrogant. I am still not sure what Suzanna saw in him besides his great physique. I was really hoping Suzanna would leave Jake and stay with the Indians. Now that would have made this story interesting, and broken the typical mold for a historical romance.

I liked this book, but it seemed to drag on and then end abruptly. Still, it was an enjoyable read if you're not looking form much depth.
