A truly haunting read, almost like Mommie Dearest on hallucinogens with a mother character who's bitterly narcissistic and just plain awful. A father that is so terribly aloof you want to shake the piss out of him. A pair of siblings torn apart yet still living in their own odd way. Part mystery, part family drama, and a copious amount of paranormal. This is quite the ghost story, it's also one helluva punch to the heart. Anyone who enjoys the works of Clay McLeod Chapman and Shirley Jackson will fall right into this one, a definite stay up all night to finish kind of read.

“Being Dead,” by Richard Leise (ISBN: 9781957537788), Publication Date: 19 September 2023, ears five stars.

An enthralling read . . . complex yet straightforward, full of twists and turns, and incisively written. A perfect length to read it straight through, which I did. It held me from the first page and didn’t let me go until the last. I’m still pondering what it revealed and the implications. What a book!

It took me a little while to get into this story. The writing style is one of a kind, as are the characters. Once I got into it I quite enjoyed it. I haven't read anything like it which was refreshing.

This was a great spooky story. It is told in a unique way and is unlike any other ghost story I've read which was a really pleasant surprise. I would recommend this! Special Thank You to Richard Leise, Brigid's Gate Press and NetGalley for allowing me to read a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.
