Even though I've only read an excerpt, I can tell that this sequel has the warmth, magic, and joy of the first book. I can't wait to read more!

While only a small excerpt of the whole book, Somewhere Beyond the Sea offers a welcome return to the island of Marsyas and its magical residents. Filled with TJ Klune’s trademark warmth and wit, Somewhere Beyond the Sea immediately brings you back into this world - a world filled with magic and those who would seek to destroy that magic. A found family tale at its warmest, but one tinted with danger. For Arthur Parnassus is about to face the fight of his life; a fight for the very future of those placed in his care. And it’s sure to go up in a fiery blaze.

Those doubtful of the necessity of a sequel to Cerulean Sea need not worry. Somewhere Beyond the Sea immediately dispels those worries as Klune clearly has more to say with these characters, a fire lit underneath him. There’s no laurel resting in these four chapters; instead, there’s a rage that threatens to explode. And seeing exactly where this story goes is well worth the price of entry.

Ughh. All my favorite characters back ago and now I just want more!!! I cannot believe it’s only an excerpt. So sad.

It’s a bit challenging to make a happily ever after into something new and interesting. But there seem to be interesting plot points developing around what this government hearing and a new kid to add to the crew.

TJ Klune really excels with how he writes the children, and it’s a delight to see them again.

The book feels very of this moment, very political and very queer.

Interested to see how it all shapes up!

I will note I wish that it had been clearer in NetGalley this was an excerpt.

Thank you to netgalley for the 4 chapter excerpt. I loved book #1 and these 4 chapters of book #2 have me counting down to full release date. I'm loving the familiarity of old characters and excited to read further development of new characters. If you liked #1, #2 has all the same good vibes coming your way.

I was so excited to receive an excerpt of the sequel to THITCS!! I was nervous I wouldn't remember the characters, but as soon as I started reading I was instantly brought back to one of my favorite places with my favorite people. I can't wait for the full book to come out so I can continue to read about Arthur, Linus, and the adorably cute and creative magical children in their care. At first I thought Arthur was returning the house and it had been abandoned which made me think something terrible had happened to Linus and the children. After reading a few other reviews I realized that was in the past and the book it Arthur's story about how the orphanage came to be. I'm so excited for his story and can't wait for the book to come out! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the excerpt!

Listen, I just hate an excerpt. I really do. My bad for requesting this but it just feel gimmicky to me.

Really enjoyed this excerpt! Full review on Instagram. I can’t give 5 stars to an excerpt but this was a solid 4-stars for me. Wonderful return to the world of House in the Cerulean Sea, with a stronger sense of the oppression facing Arthur and the rest of the magical community.

This is my first foray into reading anything by TJ Kline. I know he is a very popular author but this genre is not one I ever read.

The writing is fantastic and I was drawn into the story.

His fans are going to love this book.

This excerpt of “Somewhere Beyond the Sea” includes the first few chapters of the novel.

The magical and unique family we know and love is back, and trying to make it all official! With the anticipation of another possible addition to their clan and a legal battle with unknown outcomes and secret weldings, Arthur and Linus must go away (and back) to the city to make things right.

There are returns of characters who were briefly mentions in the first novel, and the heart of its prequel “The House in the Cerulean Sea” is still very much present within our family and will hopefully remain in the rest of the book. Arthur and the children are very much my favorite characters in the first book, it’s be interesting to know how much we’ll get overall in the sequel. According to the excerpt, there will be some dedicated time with the legal drama — something I’m not too interested in reading but want to know how it all plays out, predictably or unpredictably.

This is told to be Arthur’s story — what will come to light in the midst of everything that comes out?

In just 4 short chapters, this author managed to pull me back in to the world of the House in the Cerulean Sea. We get a glimpse into the lives of the children of Marsyas Island since we last left off. It brought me back to the warm & fuzzy feelings I felt when reading the first book. Not only did this excerpt give me the happy feelings from the first book, it also piqued my curiosity with a glimpse into Arthur's past and then drew me in with the promise of government drama. I can only hope that time flies until this book comes out so I can see where the story goes.

I was already excited for this book to be released, but now the excitement is tripled! The four chapter excerpt of this book contains so many important themes and layers. The author writes in such a way that you can immerse yourself into the book and feel all the feelings along with the characters.

There is also something to be said about there being so many characters, and making every single one of them so lovable.

I want to thank the author and Tor Publishing Group for allowing me to read this excerpt via Netgalley.

This direct continuation of the Marsyas Island crew begins with Klune's characteristic heartfelt writing of the familial state of the island and begrudgingly delves into Arthur and Linus' work to undo the harmful bureaucratic system that represses magical persons. This 4 chapter excerpt has whet my appetite for the full novel and can tell this will be a wonderful sequel.

This is an excerpt, so I can't give it a full and proper review. But it does look like it will be another good one from Klune.
