Is the first book I read by this author and I couldn't put it down! The plot is well done, it made me paranoid as well lol as with most thrillers, is hard to review without giving anything away. Many twists and turns, especially towards the end.

In Sleepwalker by M.A. Hunter, Jake Meredith is arrested for the murder of his wife, but he's adamant he's not guilty, even though her blood is all over his hands and his prints are on the murder weapon. He has no memory of attacking her.
His solicitor brother claims Jake is a sleepwalker, and he's sent to a revolutionary new sleep clinic for assessment.

The descriptions of the scenery provided immersive descriptions as if I could actually smell and experience what the characters were. The plot was intriguing and surprised me. The story was fast-paced, but it ended suddenly, and it was not as satisfying as I would have liked.

I liked Jake's brother and daughter, Sienna, but I did not like Jake. He was exhausting as a character with his anger, but he was struggling with PTSD.

I would rate Sleepwalker 3.5 stars out of 5 (rounded to 4). The author was able to hold my interest and weaved a good story, but I just did not like Jake and the story ended too abruptly.

Jake Meredith is accused of murdering his wife Lucy, but he has no memory of it. Indeed, he repeatedly states that he loves her, insisting he’s not guilty. His lawyer brother Max claims that Jake is a sleep walker and that will be his defence at the trial, but still, there are aspects of the case that make no sense. Currently Jake, Max and Detective Fahey are making their way across choppy water to Lundy Island to the Lundy Clinic for the study of sleep disorders. Jake’s heart sinks when the island comes into view, it looks sinister and he’s convinced that no good will come of it. The longer he’s there, the more he becomes suspicious of why he’s there, he knows that something very strange is going on. Particularly troubling him is a red door, what lies behind it? The story is told on Lundy Island and back tracks to 4 weeks before the murder which works extremely well, heightening the tension and the intensity of the plot.

My opinion of the book is a little uncertain at the start as it seems a bit slow but thankfully that doesn’t last long and before I know it, it’s grabbed my attention and keeps me invested from this point on. My keenness to know, did he, didn’t he, increases and increases as the plot develops. Does he sleepwalk or not? What’s afoot on Lundy? What kind of place is it? Will he ever be able to leave? Why are Jake’s family members acting so strangely?

The pace gets quicker and quicker as I try to work out what’s going on, I don’t and that’s all to the good. The suspicion grows and it becomes quite scary in places as I try to work out what’s real and what’s not , which is heighten by the constant questioning of Jake himself. How reliable is he? Has he walked into a conspiracy of some kind? Is he deluded? Is he the villain as others are trying to paint him or is he a victim? What’s even more interesting is the personality of Jake himself, he isn’t especially likeable despite the fact he earns some sympathy because he’s so isolated and yet my opinion of him rockets at the end. As the novel reaches its unexpected climax, the twists get twistier and they keep on coming.

My only reservation lies in the very abrupt end, although perhaps it’s best to let the rest of it dwell in our imaginations.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Boldwood Books for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Jake Meredith has no recollection of the night of his wife’s murder. Found unconscious near the body, the murder weapon close by, covered in Lucy’s blood, Jake’s amnesia seems to have been brought on by the tragic event. His brother Max, acting on Jake’s behalf, convinces the police to let him take Jake to a sleep clinic, as Max is sure that the act was undertaken whilst Jake was sleep walking, and that Jake is also suffering from PTSD after a recent tour in the army. Throughout Jake is protesting his innocence, though he has no idea what actually happened.

A story with lots of twists. Who can Jake believe? Who is on his side? Was his marriage all he thought it was? It was quite fast paced, but with far too much reiteration; the story was too short for the reader to be constantly reminded what had been done or said before, though the ending was abrupt and to the point!

Jake was pretty unpleasant, quite volatile, easy to understand why the powers that be were suspicious, though he did try to redeem himself.

A quick, entertaining read.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books.

Jake Meredith is sent to a sleep clinic on an island, as his brother claims he is a sleepwalker.
Apparently, while Jake was sleepwalking, he killed his wife, Lucy. He has no memory of that.
While he is at the clinic, all he cares about is contacting his five year old daughter Sienna.
He starts to suspect that the people around him are not who they seem.

A very twisty psychological thriller, and packed with emotion. Jake really loved his wife Lucy, and he truly does care about Sienna.
I could not put this book down, I just had to see how it ended, and wow!! What a major twist there was!

Thanks to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this book.

Jake is accused of murdering his wife, yet he is unable to remember anything that happened. His lawyer brother sends him to a specialized clinic to try to prove his innocence.
From the beginning, the author creates an oppressive and anguished feeling that entangles you in the story. Jake is unable to remember but maintains that it was not him while trying to fight the memories and the paranoia that is taking over him. The characters he encounters at the clinic, such as Sully, add to the tension.
The novel has a very steady and fast pace that makes you can't stop reading. Interspersed chapters that bring us closer to the day of the events and manages to keep us alert and guessing what could have happened and who will be the culprit until the unexpected end.
A novel well set, with a strong plot and good characters, perfect for lovers of psychological thrillers.

Under suspicion of killing his wife, Jake is experiencing memory lapses and cannot remember what happened that night. He truly believes he’s innocent. Was he sleepwalking? If so, he can be found not guilty due to area laws. Admitted to a sleep clinic, Jake hopes to find answers and help his defense, but the main question remains…. Did he really kill his wife?

This fast-paced, page turner of a psychological thriller keeps you constantly guessing what you think you know. The flashbacks added to the intensity and suspense of the story, keeping you on the edge of your seat. I didn’t see the twist at the end coming!

What a unique and interesting premise. So many thrillers out there are regurgitating similar storylines, but this was truly fresh & new!

Thank you to NetGalley & Boldwood Books for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Omg the twists in this book were just..... *chefs kiss*! A really good premise, well plotted out and characters that are brought to life. I loved not knowing who could be trusted and what was real and what wasn't. I was so invested in getting to the truth but the ending still had me completely shocked! Amazing

Twisty, disturbing and intriguing, this is a psych suspense that left me reeling and had me questioning everything I thought I knew.
I loved the island setting and eeriness of the sleep centre. The characters were untrustable, just as they should be, and the pain of the MC trying to establish truth and justice was so well put across.
Five stars from me.

Jake is arrested under suspicion of murdering his wife, but cannot remember what happened that night. Max, his brother, tells the police that Jake used to sleepwalk as a kid, although Jake has no recollection of this. If it can be proved that Jake killed his wife while sleepwalking, he could be found not guilty of her murder or declared legally insane. Jake is admitted to a clinic to diagnose his predisposition to sleepwalking, in the hopes that it will help his defence.

While at the clinic, Jake continually protests his innocence, but as he starts experiencing memory lapses, he begins to question if he did commit the murder and if there is something more sinister happening at the clinic.

The story was fast paced and kept me turning the pages, although it did end quite abruptly. I found the character of Jake unlikeable. He was painted as a paranoid and angry man, constantly lashing out at others. If the ending was supposed to redeem his character, it wasn't convincing enough for me.

I am so excited to be among the first normal people to read and review this book!
I enjoy this author. He's pretty good and the books are short. I am not good at guessing endings or solving mysteries and he doesn't make me feel super dumb.
My first impressions were that I just do not like the main protagonist. "I quit my job. Here is some jewelry I bought my wife so she won't be mad about being the sole provider." I respect quitting any job. I love quitting jobs.
He just seemed like a jerk for that. .Actually he does a lot of things that are terrible to his wife he claims to love, which fit because he is dealing with some stuff but also he thinks he can just fix things with gifts and cups of tea. It is like really a typical move for some types.
I was also really worried about him in his lock up facility. He has PTSD and has a lot of scary flashbacks, so maybe he needs that facility. I love that twist towards the end!
That ending too!
