When Zaleck, a young albino farm boy wakes up in a slaver’s cart after being kidnapped from home, he fears he may never see his family again.

But after a strange power intervenes, he is freed with the help of two other escapees, Arneth, a scholar belonging to an obscure order of master manipulators, and Vellis, a master markswoman whose prowess with the bow is matched only by the shadows of her past. Now, the trio must flee the surviving slavers while also investigating the reasons behind their capture.

Confronted with their captors once more, Zaleck’s innate magical abilities manifest, marking him as a “deathtouched”, one of the rare people who can summon the “Flow of Death” and weave it into powerful magic. However, without proper training, it is only a matter of time until his powers go out of control. Now Vellis has to protect him from himself, and Arneth must guide him away from a tragedy only he can foresee. While on the run from bloodthirsty enemies, can Zaleck remain true to the one rule all deathtouched must follow: to never kill with the Flow?
