Readers of this series have been waiting for this book for a while. Julie Ann Walker has kept us guessing about who Ethan "Ozzie" Sykes really is. Turns out there is much i didn't know about Ozzie. To start with how he got the knickname "Ozzie". He's always been just Ozzie. Didn't think about how he got to be Ozzie. He seems like such a easy going fun loving guy. Since his leg was seriously injured in a previous mission he's not sure if he can do the job he's always done for the BKI team anymore. Questioning his worth it's hard to keep up that fun loving front. Samantha Tate is the feisty and curious reporter for the Chicago Tribune that has appeared in previous books. Ozzie has always been tasked with distracting her when needed from what the real mission of the BKI team does. There is a lot going on in this story. Samantha has badies gunning for her and this kicks Ozzie into gear. Ozzie and Samantha sizzle together but there are so many conflicts for poor Ozzie. Doubts and misunderstandings between the two don't help. They trust each other with everything but their hearts. It was awesome to learn how badass Ozzie is. How serious he can be when his heart is involved and how vulnerable he is after everything he's been through. Both Ozzie and Samantha do whatever is needed for each other and still can't see that they love each other. Beautiful, exciting and heartbreaking at times Julie Ann Walker makes Ozzie live up to the hype. The only thing i was hoping to see and didn't was the other BKI guys. I had hoped some would show up in the end. It was great seeing some of the BKI ladies and of course Christian and the chemistry between him and Emily was fun. I think a little of my heart belongs to Ozzie. Hope Samantha will share.

'Wild Ride' by Julie Ann Walker is book Nine in the "Black Knights Inc." series. This is the story of Ethan "Ozzie" Sykes and Samantha Tate. I have not yet read the other books in this series so for me this was a standalone book.
The Black Knights are a team of people actually working for the Government but only a few Government people know about them. Ozzie is one of the members and he knows that things have to be kept secret. But when Sam starts to looking around for information it ends up putting her in danger and that doesn't leave Ozzie many options.
This was an exciting, drama filled romance that was hard to put down!

Black Knights, Inc is a custom motorcycle shop that is also a cover for undercover ops. They have created their own family within this group.

Ethan “Ozzie” Sykes is the IT genius/hacker extraordinaire of the group. On his last mission, an IED exploded and took parts of his leg with it. He’s still recovering. Ozzie’s mom committed suicide from post partum depression when he was 4. Growing up, there were lots of “moms” in and out of his life, but none stayed. Once he was an adult, many women came and went, but again, none stayed. Because of this, Ozzie has a sense of abandonment and unworthiness. Now he’s also worried about his place on the team because he will no longer be able to do field work. He struggles with self-esteem and poor pitiful me issues.

Samantha Tate is a reporter for the Chicago Tribune. She just knows there is more to the custom motorcycle shop than meets the eye and has been trying to get an interview and into the shop for years. Ozzie has struck up a friendship with her to keep her distracted. Or as he says, “I treat her like a mushroom. I keep her in the dark and feed her shit.“ Samantha’s dad’s murder is unsolved. She became a reporter to expose crime and bring justice.

When Samantha’s life is threatened, Ozzie steps up to protect her. Since most of their team is off on an op, he takes her back to the shop. Much to the chagrin of the wives and girlfriends there.

The true MC gang characters were evil, creepy and made my skin crawl. I could smell the foul breath the author described.

There are LOTS of LOL moments. A couple of my favorites:
“But you can’t put flowers in an asshole and call it a vase.”
“You, sir, are the reason the gene pool needs a lifeguard.”

I loved Christian and Emily. Especially Christian’s cockney. I really want to read their story.

SPOILER:
I had a couple problems with the story.
First, I find it unrealistic that the President would take time out of his busy day to video chat to explain the covert operations going on in the shop, let alone take a gigantic chance a reporter may expose them.
Second, the President tears open a bag of gummy bears with his teeth and shakes a few into his mouth during this chat? Seriously? I’m sure this was supposed to be funny, but it fell flat.

The author has a penchant for hyphenated phrases and run together words that is distracting and at times grating. This is not the best book in the series but a pleasant enough way to pass a few hours.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley.

I liked the premise of the book and the characters.
I think the reader would get more enjoyment if they read the others in the series.
Ozzie and Samantha's relationship started slow but quickly built to another level.
Overall I enjoyed the book but wished I would have read the others in the series

I feel like I have been waiting forever for Ozzie's book. Ozzie is the hot guy with the panty melting smile. When he was injured in the last book, I was wondering if we would forever find a changed Ozzie. The new Ozzie is definitely a little darker, but still the same loveable guy underneath it all and the person who brings the old Ozzie back is Samantha. The reporter that Ozzie has been friends with for a while. When Samantha finds herself in trouble, Ozzie will stop at nothing to protect her.

I loved this book because Ozzie is a guy who we have seen with a smile and a quick joke all of the time. Now we learn why he is that way. The loss that Ozzie has had in his life and what he is truly searching for. I loved seeing all of these layers to Ozzie and knowing that he's still our loveable goofball with a lot of vulnerability and such a good guy. I loved watching Samantha realize her love for Ozzie. She is a kick butt heroine and perfectly suited for Ozzie. Loved these two together. Another great Black Knights book!

While I love this series, this one wasn't my favorite. I didn't feel as invested in the characters as I have in the past so there was a lack of connection to the story for me.

I loved visiting with characters from previous books and am really looking forward to the next one.

> > Judging a Book by it's Cover < <
Cover is different, less vibrant. But, as a BKI book and it being written by JAW, it's an auto-read for me. I've been looking forward to Ozzie's book for some time now.
> > Looking Deeper < <
POV ~> Third-Person
This book had a emptier feel due to the lack of cast members from BKI. It also did not feel as vibrant and action-packed. Setting stays in Chicago.

BKI is working with a skeleton crew at home base when the bane of their existence for the past half-dozen years, Chicago Tribute investigative reporter, Samantha Tate, finds herself in a potentially deadly situation. Ozzie's relationship with Samantha is low-key, at best, but the feelings that are developing for the smart and sexy reporter make him protective of her and when her safety is gravely compromised, he takes it upon himself to keep her in one piece. For the first time since the bombing (see FULL THROTTLE [BKI #7] ), grief, doubt, pity, and self-loathing are not fighting to consume him. Their chemistry and interactions are mostly enjoyable and entertaining.
Secondary cast consist of a handful of the BKI members (mostly wives), Samantha's co-workers, a gang, an MC, and a few law enforcement officers.
The dialogue and writing was on-point for this series and author. The flow was super smooth. There were plenty of dynamics and conflicts along the way. Most everything was resolved before the end.
No big surprises nor blatant predictability. The conclusion is wrapped up pretty well, however I am now concerned that Ozzie's repairs may be degrading - which is scary and worrisome.
Overall, fans of Romantic Suspense will be pleased with this addition to the series, but more likely not overjoyed. While it fit the current pace that Ozzie's at, we tend to expect a faster-paced, more action filled story set in exotic or remote locales. But, that said, it is NOT a disappointment, and I think you'll agree that Emily and Christian really try to steal some scenes *big, hopeful grin*

I liked this author, just not enough to post on a site. I needed more, what more did I need? I'm actually not sure, I just needed that something more. Does that make sense? Probably not, but her writing did leave something to be desired.

This is my favorite Black Knights Inc. Even though I’ve thought the same on each one I’ve read. The banter between Ozzie and Christian was so much fun, and Samantha showed that she could hold her own with Ozzie as well. I found it fascinating that Ozzie and Samantha – both involved with communication in one form or another – had trouble with the one-on-one communication. I’m not complaining, it added a great element to the story. The romance was smoking and realistic in its progression. (I want an Ozzie!) Then you add the danger and action to get a well-rounded romantic suspense novel. The bad-guy was perfect for this story. This is one that I will read again…especially when it’s time to gear-up for the next installment, Ms. Walker has my interest peaked for that!

The attraction between Ozzie and Sam was hot and steamy. I loved the suspense and that we got to catch up with past characters. I love that the whole group is like family and they always have each other's backs. Sam and Ozzie were just perfect together and once they finally decided to give in to their attraction it was explosive. I love this series!! I highly recommend this one.

Since book one of the Black Knights Inc. series, I’ve been a little bit in love with Ozzie. Not because of phenomenal good looks (which have been described in detail several times) but because of his love of Star Trek and 80’s hair bands. So when I heard his heroine for Wild Ride would be Samantha Tate, I was conflicted. Throughout the series, she’s been an annoyance in good times and a nightmare in bad ones. In the end, though, Julie Ann Walker pulled out a winner in the form of Wild Ride. It’s just about impossible for me to love Ozzie, Samantha and the both of them together anymore that I did at the conclusion of this book.

Julie Ann Walker’s unique sense of wit and writing style is unparalleled. Not only do I find myself relating to each and every character she writes, the characters in her books are so refreshingly real. For example, they think/say words like “douchecanoe”. Even better, she blends real-world nerdy things with her unique brand of romantic suspense. Star Trek and A Princess Bride references in a book? Yes, please!

The thing that worried me to no end before picking this book up was Ozzie’s long, long list of sexual partners and affinity for women. Luckily, Walker perfectly dealt with Ozzie’s reputation in this book. So often the fact that a guy used to sleep around with gusto is swept under the rug in modern-day romances. In Wild Ride, though, Walker not only mentioned Ozzie’s past several times, but Samantha’s long-standing history with the group also clued us in from the beginning that Samantha knew of his promiscuous ways. Due to the events in previous books and Ozzie’s subsequent injury at the start of Wild Ride, the book opens with Ozzie taking a hiatus from sleeping around. The clean-slate for Ozzie from page one of this book made it easy for me, as a reader, to think of Samantha and Ozzie together in a long-term monogamous relationship. Let’s be perfectly clear, I don’t have a problem with heroes who have previously slept their way through a city finding love without some sort of forced sexual-hiatus. However, Ozzie’s lack of sexual contact in the form a sexual hiatus due to a major life-changing event made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside when he eventually admitted his slow fall for Samantha. This set-up for Ozzie and Samantha worked for me in all the right ways.

Wild Ride wasn’t perfect, though. Emily and Christian’s relationship introduction fell a bit flat. I didn’t get enough of a sense for them together to build any anticipation for their eventual romance. Their scenes were more of a nuisance than anything. The other thing that I found problematic about this book was the lack of previous BKI heroes and heroines. Their absence was explained in detail, but just seeing Becky, Delilah and Michelle made me a little grumpy. A few scenes with Penni, or Eve, or the numerous heroes would have gone a long way in keeping the thread of the series going. I’m not sure the hero and heroine for the next book (Dagan and Chelsea in Fuel for Fire releasing July 1st) were even mentioned in this book.

Since we’ve seen Ozzie and Samantha both before countless times in this series, this book can not be read as a stand-alone. I highly recommend going back to the beginning and enjoy all the HEAs that have come previously before embarking on Wild Ride.

Wild Ride is a completely, all-around solid addition the Black Knights Inc. lineup. 4.5 stars for Wild Ride by Julie Ann Walker!

Ozzie is the one we have been waiting for! We learn about his quirks that have been endearing him to our hearts. We learn about his insecurities and hidden strengths. We are reminded how each member of BKI holds an important role in the organization.

Most of the Black Knights are out of country during this book. Ozzie is left behind, holding down the fort, due to an injury last year. Reporter Samantha Tate has become his problem to deal with and now she is inside the compound.

Beware of SPOILER! Ozzie is concerned about his injury preventing him from returning to the field, but every time he is put to the test in this book his body comes through for him. I have great hopes for #10. Emily and Christian deserve their own story after all the angst in this one. AND I am eager to see how Samantha and Ozzie fit with the team, as a duo, when the missing men return.

“You’re worth any sacrifice, any burden, any secret. Oh, Ozzie, to me you’re worth everything.”

Wild Ride by Julie Ann Walker was exactly what the title promises. A wild ride of intrigue, love, passion, humor, and her specialty—suspense. Miss Walker is a genius when it comes to telling a gripping tale which will keep you on the edge of you seat, biting your nails, while your heart is nearly beating out of your chest. Which is one thing I love about her writing.

Ethan “Ozzie” Sykes has been a staple in this series from the beginning, and the one character I couldn’t wait to read about. Always happy, charming, up for anything with a joke at the ready, Ozzie seemed to be the guy least affected by the life the Black Knights lead. This is until one fateful night in Malaysia blew his persona to smithereens, quite literally.
Ever since that night, he has changed—pretending to be the old Ozzie, fun, outgoing, and laid-back. And the only person able to bring back the old Ozzie, and not the bitter shell of it, is Samantha Tate—the one person he should avoid at all costs. Her profession as a reporter and ability to sniff out a great story anywhere she goes is dangerous not only for him, but also his family. Yet, neither one of them can resist the draw they feel toward one another. But are they willing to sacrifice for one another? Or will the secrets they each hold on to drive an irreversible wedge in between them.

I have to say, I misjudged Samantha Tate and Ozzie in the first eight books of this amazing series. They both hide behind their secrets, show the world only what they want it to see. But whenever they are together, they are able to be themselves. They are perfect for one another, yet miscommunications, preconceived notions made over time, and circumstances keep them from realizing they share the same feelings.

“You have the eyes of a warrior. Someone who has seen things, done things.”
Despite the two of them driving me insane by not talking to one another, I loved them. These characters were so flawlessly written, so very well-fleshed out, so grippingly real I couldn’t help but adore them. Ozzie is probably my favorite character ever written—he’s pretty much perfect. A self-proclaimed uber-geek, he isn’t shy about showing it, yet, at the same time he is also protective of the people he loves. His one-liners and sexy humor will make you like him even more.

Miss Walker has an unparalleled talent of combining the suspenseful aspect I love in any good Romantic Suspense, with a sexy and heartbreaking love story as well as a humor which had me laugh out loud at times. And Wild Ride is the perfect combination of it all. It’s undoubtedly my favorite in the series—it had me laughing out loud, crying my eyes out, and wanting to throw my kindle due to the suspense I was put through.

This beautiful story is another one of my #TopReads2017, and I cannot wait for the next one in the series. Julie Ann Walker is one of my favorite authors; her books are everything you could want in a romantic suspense novel, and I cannot recommend her stories enough. If you are in need of a sexy, funny, and nail-biting-and-yelling-at-your-kindle suspenseful story you won’t be disappointed with this beauty.

“Why do men name their penises?” “Ladies—“ Ozzie tried to interrupt. Michelle just barreled ahead. “Because they don’t want a stranger to make ninety percent of their decisions for them!”

A motorcycle club that really isn’t a motorcycle club but is a cover for a covert ops group working for the president. Clever. This way the bikers can be good guys and the story is still set in the biker world at least partially. The real bikers are as nasty as one would expect.

Ozzie, and his club’s, secrets are not at all what Samantha thinks they are but he can’t tell her what they really do. Samantha develops a serious friendship/crush even thinking he’s part of a gun-running outlaw gang. All this was a bit hard for me to believe. Even harder to believe is that Ozzie is a gorgeous SEAL and consummate flirt emotionally crippled with deep seated self-doubt around women. His insecurities create a lot of tension though since it’s so hard for him to trust that Samantha really cares about him. And the president calls to fill Samantha in on Ozzie’s secret? Really?

Despite these parts of the plot that I never really accepted, the story was well enough written and the characters likable enough that I enjoyed the book. Ozzie is a really good guy. He’s a dear and loyal friend to Samantha. I wanted to see the two very likable people get the happily ever after they deserved. I enjoyed the cast of supporting characters as well. Walker does a good job of creating tense situations and fun interactions in the right places to advance the story well. She painted the loathsome outlaws so well that almost made my skin crawl.

Wild Ride is indeed a wild ride and the book is entertaining. I’m curious to see more of Emily and Christian.

Samantha Tate is a report and she knows something is going on with the motorcycle club, The Black Knights. She has been trying to get into their circle for years. Ozzie, a member of the Black Knights, has befriended Samantha, but he’s made sure that all the secrets of the Knights have stayed under wraps. You see, The Black Knights are actually a black ops group ran by the US government and their missions are so classified only the president of the US and a few high ranging military officers are aware of their status.

When Samantha (Sam) uncovers a lead about guns being sold by a MC club, with terrorist connection, it puts a bulls-eye on her head. Ozzie must decide how best to protect her while keeping The Black Knights’ secret.

The smoldering attraction between Ozzie and Sam don't help the up close and person situation they find themselves in.

White knuckle reading at its finest, Wild Ride is better than a roller coaster to get your heart pumping.

I love that family atmosphere that the Black Knights have created. Each member of this cast has each other’s backs and plays an important role, even if they are no longer the main characters to the storyline. I can't believe this is book 9, if you're a romantic suspense fan you really should check this out.

I absolutely love the black knights series. I always feel like these books are to short but they manage to pack a hell of a wallop. All of the characters in this story are absolutely amazing in their individual ways. But lets focus on the main characters of Wild Ride.
Samantha Tate is a reporter, her very being dictates that she gets to the bottom of what is happening at Black Knights. That is until she became friends with Ozzie. Now she just wants to hang out and get to know them better. Of course her warm and fuzzy feelings change a bit when she finds out that the Black Knights are gun runners.
Ethan Sykes, AKA Ozzie, works at Black Knights Inc., he is a fun time guy in order to hide the fact that every rejection hurts like a brand on his soul. But when he almost looses a leg in a mission his whole disposition changes and he is only "himself" when he is with Samantha. To bad he can never actually be with her because if they start hanging out as more than friends she will leave him, just like every other woman in his life has done. And it doesn't help anything that he cant tell her about who he really is. But when they are forced to be with each other more often then ever before, due to a threat on Samantha's life, maybe they will actually have a chance. Or maybe she will break his heart all over again.
This was a great suspenseful romance, that manages to close up all of the little loose ends that pop up throughout the story. I found this book absolutely scrumptious, the sexy scenes were amazing, and the characters were amazing. The writing style was flawless and holy crap did this book make me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. The sarcastic and witty characters that are prevalent at Black Knights Inc. are just enhanced with the new banter style that is all Samantha Tate.
There is a lot of sex in this book, and not all of it happens in the bedroom so please keep that in mind.

Ethan "Ozzie" Sykes finally has his story written and it was well worth the wait. Ozzie has been injured and is sidelined at Black Knights, Inc recovering. He's given the dubious assignment of distracting reporter Samantha Tate who has been trying for years to dig up dirt on BKI. This fast paced story will have Sam and Ozzie dealing with numerous threats. Sam will learn that she has some wrong assumptions regarding BKI. Ozzie hates not being able to let Sam see who he really is so his friends help him out.

Wild Ride was an interesting interpretation of an MC. The men were still gruff, but the way they spoke didn't quite fit with how I envision bikers speaking. Ollie sure as heck didn't act like a badass. While I understand he was in the middle of recovering from something horrific, he was such a softy, it took away from his realism. Yes, it's fiction. I get it. But with all things, everyone has limits, including me.

Call it a stereotype, but it's how I felt. I mean, I am in no way saying that guys that are part of this type of club (though this particular one is not partaking in illegal activities and its members are some of the most honorable and brave people possible) can't be smart, or even a little nerdy. Obviously, as their resident hacker, Ollie is going to be both. But it was a stretch that he loved The Princess Bride that much. And the emphasis on his emotional upheaval was emasculating - guys don't think like that. I don't know a single man who thinks the way Ollie does. Because while the book was fun to read, it was extremely clear that it was written by a woman.

Why is that bad? Because I couldn't lose myself in the characters. I enjoyed their story. I totally dug the action. Those two elements kept this rating in the middle. But the disconnect I maintained with the characters made it hard to love the book.

Book Review- Wild Ride by Julie Ann Walker

Samantha Tate is a reporter and has tried to get the scoop on the Black Knights Inc. for years. During that time she and Ozzie have become great friends. However she knows there is more to BKI than they let on. So when one of her informants tells her about a motorcycle club running illegal guns and then he ends up dead, she immediately jumps to the conclusion that Ozzie and BKI are that club. She panics thinking her life is in danger. It is, of course, but not from Ozzie. By the time she figures that out she has tased Ozzie and almost been kidnapped.
When Samantha realizes what she has done she is truly mortified but agrees to stay with Ozzie at the compound where she will be safe. Ozzie is now her bodyguard. Their friendship continues as Samantha and Ozzie are shocked at the other feelings they have for each other, both thinking it is one-sided. There is a big obstacle. Samantha is a reporter and Ozzie is secret black ops. In the long run it would never work.
When Samantha is still a target and is finally confronted, Ozzie can’t think of anything else but saving her. Samantha realizes the depth of her feelings for Ozzie and can’t go back to being just friends. She tries to pull away. The women of BKI step in and save the day.
I love this series. I have read all of them so far loving each of the male characters and the strong women who love them. The storyline is full of suspense, testosterone and stubbornness.
Ozzie is a beloved character. He is the goofball, technical genius. Yet he is a layered character. The story really digs into his past and reveals a lot he keeps hidden. A lot of his surface hides deeper issues. He is not an example of “what you see is what you get”.
Samantha has been a background character for a while. Someone they definitely need to avoid. I also liked getting to know her better in this story. She is a softie under that tough shell. At first I wanted to shake her when she had things wrong, but she came through. They admitted their feelings to themselves but were too blind to see it in the other person. It was sad how the author made them so closed off to really see other people. However with a little help and fear they were able to see the truth. Excellent read and addition to the series. I give it a 4 out of 5.

OMG! This book was EVERYTHING I could want in a book. It had romance, intrigue, a hot good man and a sassy, strong female character. There were a whole slew of strong female characters because you need to be when dealing with the Black Knights. I can't say much more without ruining it but this book won't let you down. Now to go read the rest of the series!
