I thought this was going to be something different. Not a bad book but not my cup of tea.

This novel focuses on threats to Israel, and we learn that even some Jews will fight against other Jews. A devious plot to make the US think twice about backing off on support of Israel is the main story. The US will act stronger if it thinks Iran carried off this horrible event. From the head of Mossad to a soldier with PTSD and only one leg, forces take up plans. The author tells the story in disjointed segments that take some getting used to, and those are not even chronological, so you have to figure out on your own what the time period is. In one case, the story went from NY Eve back to Christmas day without warning. Many of the things that happen here are quite implausible. Thanks Net Galley for the advance copy.

I liked False Flag, it's a decent read with a great idea behind it. The story seems very realistic, and I really liked the writing style. However, I feel like it wasn't executed as well as it should've been. While the characters were okay, and there were quite a few suspenseful scenes, it wasn't as engaging as I wanted it to be.

I loved his previous work, "A gathering of spies" and this one is a one-sitting read too. The story works its way through people with no morals, then with some and then with some who even change. My one knock is this; it may be popular to write women into the heroine/assassin roles, but in these countries and in thee societies it is PURE FICTION. That is my only knock, but it, read, pass it on.

The writing seemed a little scattered. Overall ok, and picked up halfway through.

This is a convoluted novel apparently centred on an Israeli Mossad plot. I say apparently as a third of the way through I am still trying to identify the players and pick up the plot. It is a complex tale made more difficult by the unfamiliar terms and Israeli names which may make the unfamiliar reader’s task harder. In strict terms there is much irrelevant verbiage; " Dalia carried a steaming cup to the Fountain of Freedom where ten-foot bronze statues depicted the Chinese zodiac". That is more information than we needed to know we certainly don't need Altman to list all 12. He does it again in inside Statuary Hall listing the names of five statues. If we want to know this we have google.

The Kindle time to read was just under 10 hours at the outset and still 7 hours to where I am at the moment. While the novel is well written, has an interesting plot, and will no doubt have a fine conclusion, it is a difficult book to read. It is not a book that you can easily dip into and out but demands concentration. I have put it aside for the moment and may pick it up later.

I am not really happy with a star award as it is somewhere between 3 and 5. Very complex 3* or very well constructed 5*. I will update this if I do finish it.
