A great book to introduce children to Jesus. One I will be using for my son when he gets older! |

We found this to be a nice read about coming into a relationship with Jesus. Simple. There were parts that were funny and there was also mystery. My girls liked the adventure and the slides. You might want to check it out for your family too. I received a copy of this book in exchanged for my honest review. |

Where Do I Find Jesus? is a cute and simple book that teaches kids how to make that very first step of asking Jesus into their hearts to be their Lord and Savior. The premise and storyline are very simple, the illustrations are cute, and I believe that Walsh's book fills a gap in children's Christian books. There are many Christian children's books with Bible stories as well as books that teach children how to pray, how to behave, how to treat one another, etc. But there aren't too many books that come to mind that addresses the very first step in becoming a Christian. I see Walsh's book being most appropriate for a place where there will be a mixed audience - kids that come from Christian homes and kids that do not. Where Do I Find Jesus? opens the door for kids who perhaps don't understand how their friends "became" Christians. Where I think the book is lacking is in explaining WHY a child would want to be a Christian in the first place. The only thing a child could glean from Walsh's book is that being a Christian means you get to go to the Kid's Club, play on the playground, learn stories, and have snacks. Why cheapen it? Why not explain to children what it's REALLY all about? I can't seem to figure out why this aspect was left out or ignored. Without it, Christianity is pointless. |
I read through this book a couple of times before I felt I was able to share my thoughts. At first I was reading it from the opinion of only myself and not the targeted reading age, once I began thinking differently I saw just how valuable the book is. Shelia Walsh has written a book that is not only fun but also shares a message of truth. Walsh has taken really understood children when writing this book. I found it endearing when Abby is looking for Jesus in the secret cupboard, the attic and a variety of other places. The parent section in the back of the book is a beautiful connection to the story and gives the reader the opportunity to explore Jesus further. The book is a beautiful tribute to the authors Son who wanted to find Jesus himself as a young 5 year old. I felt the illustrations were a bit cartoon like, however this would appeal to the younger reader. The vibrant colours give a Dr Suess feel to the illustrations which have been delighting children for many many years. I would recommend this book to school aged children as there is a lot of text to read or listen to if being read to. My hope is that this book changes the lives of many readers. |
