I was not able to get this title read in a timely manner, but I very much look forward to reading this series. I have purchased the first book in the series, and plan to get the second one as well to read it at afterward. I am no longer requesting sequels at this time as they have been difficult to keep up with. Thank you for the opportunity to review this title, but I will not be reading it at this time.

I am giving this a 3 out of 5 stars for the sampler of this book. I can not give it a final rating as I have yet to read the full book. It is another book on my TBR pile though!

I'd describe these books like a turning wheel, Dennard's protagonists shifting to focus and have drive via another character. Windwitch moves from Safiya as our leading character to Merik and his journey.
Dennard set out to play with perspective, to show how there is no clean line between good and bad, between villain and hero. And she pulls it off. By introducing new points of views, our judgments are balanced- everyone has a perspective. No villain believes they are the bad guy.

I haven't read book 1 yet, thought this was book 1 but it wasn't... so can't read this yet :( sorry!

This was a quality book by a great up and coming YA author. A well done high fantasy YA.
The only bad thing is now I can't wait for Bloodwitch, the next book in the series. Packing was well done. Safi and her threadsister are on a search to get back to each other. It continues the narrative and tone from the first book while still drawing the reader in and revealing more of the hidden plot as you go.
well done!

Susan doesn't disappoint in this follow up to her successful Truthwitch. A must read for all fantasy enthusiasts.

While I love the world of this series, I still can't help but feel overwhelmed when reading these books. Even in this excerpt, I find myself focusing more on figuring out what everything means rather than being immersed in the story itself. I feel like I'm reading for a test than for pleasure. However, I do enjoy this world and the characters, so I'm excited to read Windwitch in its entirety and see if maybe it's easier to lose myself in the story this time.

Loved this book and cannot wait to continue to read it. The world and magic is wonderful

While the first in the series didn't quite win me over, I'm invested in several of the characters and was curious to try out the second book. So far, I enjoyed this considerably more: seeing more of the world and the characters and their interactions and the potential of both of these, as well as Susan Dennard's interesting and engaging writing style.
I'll be continuing the series to see how these progress further!

Really enjoyed this book its a great series that keeps building up I can't wait when the next one comes out

I instantly purchased Windwitch after reading this excerpt. The much anticipated sequel to TRUTHWITCH furthers the adventures of Safi and Iseult as they traverse a world of elemental magic and the bloodwitch hunting them.
The characters are vividly crafted, the romance swoon-inducing and the action is guaranteed to make your heart race! I can;t wait for the next installment. Susan Dennard never fails to deliver a rip-roaring tale that will leave you teetering on the edge of your seat.

icking up where Truthwitch left off, Merick, Iseult, and Safiya have been separated. Almost killed, supposedly by someone his sister hired, Merick is lucky to be alive. He returns home as a man known as The Fury to rescue his people from a tyrant rule as well as find food trade for his kingdom. Safiya willingly goes with the Emperess of Cartorra, an Ironwitch who only recently wanted her dead, only to be kidnapped by Hell-Bards. Betrothed to Emperor Henrick, an old tyrant who is the last person she’d like to marry, the Hell-Bards have been sent to bring her back to him. The Emperor isn’t the only one, good or bad, seeking her out. Iseult has hired the Bloodwithc, Aeduan, who has been following them, to help her find Safiya before other bad men find her first. Will Iseult and Safiya find each other again? Can Merick save his people?
This is a fun, fast-paced read that was impossible to put down. The characters are well developed, likable, and mysterious. The plot is complex with lots of twists and turn and really pulls the reader into Safiya, Iseult, and Merick’s world. Fans of fantasy, adventure, and mystery will enjoy reading this book. They will, however, need to read Truthwitch first.

Truthwitch was wonderful and Windwitch sounds just as wonderful and I can't wait to read the full book.

This book was amazing! It is filled with an intensity that can only be described as mind blowing. This is definitely up there with Throne of Glass for me. The characters are so dynamic and face challenges that test them to their limits. Just when you think the tension will let up something epic happens. I loved this book and can't wait for the next ones!!

Because I only received a preview I don't have enough to say for a review but I will say that this was absolutely incredible and I can't wait to read more in The Witchlands novels! :D Susan Dennard may be the new Queen of Fantasy.

Susan Dennard has done it again! Windwitch is an outstanding sequel to her amazing book Truthwitch and fulfills all expectations readers could have. Very excited to read the next book!

I NEED to read this book in it's entirety!!!! A story about Merik, I'm sold! I loved Truth Witch and am very anxious to see how Merik's story unfolds. Just enough of a hook to catch my interest even more than before and make me anxiously await release date.

A good start to what I'm sure Is going to be an interesting sequel. I like that she drops in enough hints about what happened in the last book to do a good job of jogging my memory. I'm looking forward to getting my copy of the whole book this week so that I can finish the story!

Pre-order your copy of this book if you haven't already! I can't wait until I can get my hands on a full version! I'll be posting a full review on my blog once I receive and read the final copy!

Susan Dennard's return to her Witchlands series is an entertaining, action-filled, and fun to read YA fantasy. With the benefit of book one setting the stage before it, Windwitch takes the opportunity to really build on the foundations laid down in Truthwitch. With Merik, Safi, Aeduan, Iseult and one more person again taking turns narrating their often separated plotlines, this direct sequel creates momentum of its own while furthering the series' overall plot and also introducing new challenges and allies to contend with and further complicate matters. Friendship and found family remain central themes and motivators for a lot of the characters, and there's also little to no romance due to the separation of nearly all the central players. Immediately picking up where the first novel ended, Susan Dennard launches into her second story without a pause.
This is a series that easily bridges the gap between what is considered young adult and what is considered an adult novel in the fantasy genre; there's a lot of appeal to be found in this layered story of friendship, magic, and empire. Dennard is more ambitious in scope with this series than with her first, and Windwitch is her most enterprising novel yet, both in terms in the characterization and in plotting. The worldbuilding and magic system(s?) finally begin to feel understandable here, now the characters at play and cultures/countries involved have had more time and pages to coalesce into something substantial. The pan-European world is both more vivid and tangible the second time around, though there are still lingering questions and plot holes about its history and the way magic/Witchery operates.
One of the many enjoyable things about Windwitch, that also held true for Truthwitch before it, is that these are two books that each slowly amp up the action and build the atmospheric tension until the end of the novel is almost unexpectedly emotional amid all the high stakes fighting and magically dire circumstances. There is definitely an "end of book high," (as another reviewer called it) present in each Withlands story. This duology-so-far, and the characters within them, manage to grow on the reader like moss. It's taken some time, but with their matured narratives these complicated characters are realistic. Some are easy to engage with, and care about, others are less knowable but still interesting. Even with the improved plotting and the stronger writing, it is the varied and multilayered characters that really shine in Dennard's imagined world and the continuing stories set within it.
A strong sequel to an already promising beginning, Windwitch is an action-packed, unpredictable novel that further builds onto the Witchlands series and its mythologies. The magic system that veteran YA author Susan Dennard has invented for her fantasy world is unique (though maybe most similar to the one in Sanderson's adult fantasy novel Warbreaker) and explored more. Her characters are three-dimensional and engaging, and the plot of the book is simultaneously strong and interesting from the start to the all-too-soon ending. New twists -- both in characterization (Vivia's not the one trying to kill Merik and she cares about her country!) and in the narrative (Aeduan's dad is totally Ragnor) also help to keep this story moving at a good pace and to keep reader interest high throughout.
