Very cute book. I recommend for interracial families as a way to introduce this topic to their children

This is a very cute simple story dealing with multi-racial families. I see it as a story about family love. Zedonk, a zedonk with a zebra father and donkey mother, explains how his parents met and fell in love. Even though donkeys usually stay with donkeys and zebras with zebras, they fell in love and got married. They had a baby, Zedonk, who plays with all kinds of animals and has a lot of friends. The one issue I had is the fact that the book says the donkeys usually stay with donkeys and zebras with zebras, which if this is to be compared to humans, then that is the stereotype we do not want to reinforce. It is only mentioned once, so it is not a big issue, but it is still there. The illustrations are cute, drawn in an almost childlike manor that I think children will like. A good book to be used in a unit when teaching about acceptance and families.

A cute storybook that reflects what many families experience today... but it would be nice to see the same story with real people.

The premise of this picture book is inter-racial relationships as shown by animals cross-breeding. It beautifully tells of a zebra falling in love with a donkey, fully aware that there could be problems in their respective communities. Their offspring, the epynomous Zedonk, is wonderfully illustrated as are both zebra and donkey herds. I just wish the hills and mountains were less peculiarly colourful!
