Everyone I know was looking forward to this book coming out. Everyone I know who read it loved it, and raved about it. I wanted to love it and rave about it too. I didn't think there was anything exceptional in the book. Her experiences are shared here with vulnerability and I will always applaud that. I wasn't 100% sold on some of the theology, but I can generally take what I like and leave the rest, however there was just something about this book that left me feeling disappointed, Maybe my expectations were too high from all the hype about it. The publisher provided an ARC through Netgalley. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts |

I was excited by the premise of this book but was disappointed with its execution. I feel like this book couldn't decide what it wanted to be. There were some good nuggets that you'd expect from a devotional/self-help type of book. Many authors use stories from their life in their books but this to get their point across, but this one felt more like memoir. It was just in this weird no man's land that kept me from enjoying it fully. Thank you the the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book. |
I wanted to like this, but it's nothing new here. The premise is good, though. Some parts read like a blog post entry, not fully developed for a book. The format of the book is... all over the place. She is speaking like a mother, I can't relate to her. There are some things any woman can take away, but it's not as good as I was hoping it to be. I was really looking forward to this, but slowly it lost its appeal to me. Bummer. |
This book really was not what I expected. It was pretty intense and full on and even though I do usually connect to these type of books, I struggled with this one. I dont doubt that this book will help a lot of people, but it wasnt for me. |
I liked reading this memoir about the author's mental health struggles, as I have very similar struggles. I did feel like I wanted more, and that I wanted this book to be more than it was. However, I would absolutely recommend this book to others! |
this book is awesome. The video's with the Biblestudy are great. I realy enjoyed it and recommend it to read to everybody. God set you free. If you do believe that and wanne learn more about what the bible say about it then this is your book. Worth every penny. |
This was an interesting book. I enjoyed the concept and how to realize that we are free. There was a christian overtone to this book. |

You Are Free by Rebekah Lyons A Review I have never read any book by this author, but I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed taking the course through faithgateway. At the beginning of each chapter, the author quotes different people and at the end of the chapter she has questions and statements to ponder. The author keeps the book simple. We are free through what Jesus did for us, we just have to accept it, and then share it with others. The author is real about her life and talks about the difficulties of life but that we can be free. She talks about meeting up to the expectations of others and trying to lead a perfect life, some of the things we struggle with in our lives. I found the book to be full of simple truths. It was an encouraging book. Make sure you read this book it was encouraging to me and I am sure it will be encouraging to you. ______________ This review is based on a free electronic copy provided by the publisher for the purpose of creating this review. An empowering book for women of all ages. Thank you for sharing. |
this book was simply amazing. rebekah lyons covers it all. I can't wait to recommend this to college girls. God wants us to be free. We are Free. We just have to realize and claim our freedom. |
Honest words for all of us on our faith journey. Most of us have struggled with freedom, transition, identity. She weaves us through these struggles in her own narrative of ministry and transition. Would recommend. |
Jesus whispers, I gave my life to set you free. I gave you purpose. I called you to live in freedom in that purpose. Yet we still hobble through life, afraid to confess all the ways we push against this truth, because we can’t even believe it. We continue to grasp for the approval of anyone that will offer it: whether strangers, friends, or community. I found that I resonated with much of Rebekah's story. This book like others recently read talks about the importance of getting honest with God. I loved the style of the book written by a friend on the journey and I found myself rushing to finish the next chapters. I got to the place where I find myself currently only to find I'd reached the end of the book without any directions for moving forward. It seemed to end abruptly without resolution. I only had the ebook so I wasn't able to really make notes as I would have done in the paper copy. I could see the passion for seeing others set free. It was part memoir, part how-to which made the sudden ending more noticeable. The biggest takeaways were to be honest before God and to learn to trust Him more. He will guide you step by step into your freedom. It was a really good book. It confirmed that I was truly on the path to finding my freedom. I wouldn't call it life-changing but still worth the read. Received a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. |
I know a lot of faith-themed books seem to say some variation of the same thing: you can stop striving, God's got this. But I keep reading these books, because maybe the message will finally penetrate my thick, stubborn skull. This book is beautifully written, with plenty of personal anecdotes and gentle encouragement. My favorite part, though, is a list of questions at the end of each chapter to get you thinking, reading your Bible, journaling, and praying. You can tell that Lyons truly cares about her audience, and her words are incredibly helpful to anyone feeling stuck. 5/5 stars. |

This book! I felt instantly connected with the author from the very beginning. I felt like she was telling a story about me. She is very relatable and real. She isn't afraid of the dirty, of the ugly, or of the hard things. She runs full force into them and relies on God to conform her to his likeness. The book covers such things as freedom to be rescued, free to be called, free to confess,... thirst, ask, begin again, wait, rest, grieve, be weak, celebrate, be brace, love and to set free. Through personal examples, scripture, other well known Christian authors etc she paints a clear picture of what life is like before freedom, how one can become free through the power of Jesus and what it looks like to live a life of freedom. This book is a must read. I will be reading it again! So much amazing truth. I received a digital copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review. |
