3,5 stars I really enjoyed this. Yes, this book has some flaws like the oh so convenient absence of parents which was explained in a rush, or that the plot dragged a bit and rather concentrated on Alex' daily school life, or the rushed ending. I didn't mind it that much, though, as the characters were well written and I liked the focus on the friendship between Alex, Jordan and Bear. The worldbuilding was ok, there were instances of info dumping but nothing too heavy. Also, no romance, just a little hint and that was so refreshing! I am very much looking forward to the next book! |
This has adventure, and danger, and friendship (after one book it already feels like one of those series where you fall in love with all the characters and how they relate to each other). I feel like this is 'suitable' for the younger end of the YA range, and would be a good read for fans of books like The Invisible Library and maybe Harry Potter too (I feel like I've said that about a few things lately, but it's that set in a school, friends, magic, adventure feeling that I'm thinking of). |
I really tried to get into this book. I did, but it was just not complete for me. It has promise and with a few rewrites I am sure it can be a fantastic book. Unfortunately due to formatting, plot, and underdevelopment of the characters this just wasn't an easy read. |
I couldn't read the copy i was sent as there was a formatting error. The sentences were all incomplete and jumbled up. |
Kind of disappointed with how this book turned out. I was really excited about it, but I didn't really like the characters and the story seemed bland. Nonetheless, it was still an entertaining read. |
Format was badly received on kindle, unable to read more than a few pages without being completely lost, due to missing words or sentences |
I was very intrigued to read this one, but the Read Now edition is incomprehensible. The words are jumbled, and sentences break off and interrupt others, so I'm not able to read a page of this and have it make sense. I'm hoping that it's a Kindle error that can be easily fixed by the publisher, but until that time comes, I'm afraid I cannot read and review this book as is. |
While reading the description of the overview of the book, I thought it would be great to read. However, I can't seem to get into the story. For me the characters are not developed enough to relate to them. Storyline seemed ok. |
The premise for this books was promissing. Unfortunatly I found the characters underdeveloped. I may be a little critcial as character developement and world building are my favorite parts of books. I would say that this would appeal to a younger audience. |
The copy I received from the 'Read Now' section is badly formatted. Sentences cut off half way and a completely different sentence follows on from the last. It's not comprehensible and therefore I won't be reading this book. |
Received from NetGalley 'Read Now'. 'Akarnae' arrived in a choppy format and I am unable to read. Sentences are cut off mid-way and other sentences start half-way into something (different.) Impossible to string together a coherent paragraph. Please set up with a new format and send, if possible. |
Amazing adventure in Medora with Alex, Jordan, Bear and DC.. Really looking forward to reading book two "Raelia"! |
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest! Alex just stumbles into a new world full of magic. Until Professor Marselle shows up, there is no way to Alex to go home. In Akarnae, Alex makes new friends, attends classes + tries not to get into too much trouble. Loved the book The characters were all well rounded. The storytelling + storyline was superb. I can't wait to read the next book. |
