Unexpectedly Hers is the third book in the Sterling Canyon series by Jamie Beck. Ms. Beck is a first-time author to me. This book can be read as a stand along novel, and it is not necessary to have read the first two books to be caught up with this one. Hopefully, the other two books were better than this one but at this point, I really am not interested in finding out.

I am usually very excited to give new authors a chance but this book really disappointed me. So much to the fact that I skimmed almost the entire book.

Emma is a 31-year-old mama’s girl working at her mother’s B&B in the mountains. What her mother doesn’t know is that Emma is writing erotica under a pseudonym right under her nose. Her entire story is based on a one night stand she had with Wyatt when she was pretending to be someone else.
Wyatt ends up staying at the inn while her mother decides to leave town, leaving Emma to run the entire B&B. Wyatt has no idea Emma is the girl from the one night stand a few weeks back. He is in town filming his comeback story as a professional snowboarder.

The relationship between Emma and Wyatt is just strange. She is mad because he doesn’t remember her, yet she wants him to remember her. Emma stays away from Wyatt as much as possible but yet goes out of the way to help his brother, Ryder, who obviously wants nothing to do with his brother or this movie being filmed. Wyatt is all about getting into the pants of the girl who does nothing but ignore him. Now you know they finally get together and have sex. Even that is strange.

Needless to say, everything comes to a head and things don’t go as Emma planned. I honestly found myself hoping that Wyatt kicked her to the curb or that Emma hooked up with someone else by the end of the story. I just did not feel this story, at all.

Well, I had high hopes for this book, since I am a fan of Ms Beck’s St James series.
Sorry to say, I was disappointed.
The premise of the story is that Emma and her flaky Mother own a rundown Bed and Breakfast. Her mother is leaving town to take a cross country trip with her sister, and as she leaves , Emma is informed the B and B has been reserved for a month as a training facility for a snowboarder. Emma, a gal who, unbeknown to her mother , writes erotic novels and has been trying to work on one at the moment, is shocked. Especially , when said snowboarder, is her one night stand a couple of years ago . He doesn’t recognize her because at that time she was dressed up in her “ alter ego” character. On an aside, she is 6 years older than Wyatt.
I didn’t particularly connect with the main characters and almost didn’t finish the book.
Emma , for me , was not a likable individual, Wyatt was arrogant and just not my cup of tea.
That said, I wanted more on Ryder , to whom I was drawn from the beginning. Will he have a story of his own?
I was gifted this copy. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

This is the second book of Ms. Beck's that I have read. I enjoyed this book a lot. The characters were all very complex. Several different issues in the book made for many side line stories. The family dynamic aspect of it was very relatable. The main characters of Emma and Wyatt were very likeable. I really enjoyed the relationship Emma developed with Ryder. I have to admit I didn't like Emma's mother very much! But that didn't detract from all the other likable characters. I will continue to look for more books by Ms. Beck. She is a new to me author that I have just started reading. This book is part of a trilogy but can easily be read as a standalone! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did!

A nice addition to the Sterling Canyon series. Emma, Wyatt, and Ryder were all fantastic characters each dealing with their own issues. I really connected with each of them and I enjoyed how the relationship between Emma and Wyatt developed. I hope Ryder returns to Sterling Canyon and we get his story to enjoy. This is a book I recommend for the must read list.

I loved Unexpectedly Hers. The characters Emma and Wyatt had good chemistry and really drew me into the story. What I like most about this book was that it wasn't just focused on the romance but the growth of both characters. I've read the other books in the series and I like how we got glimpses into the other characters lives without it being forced. A great read and I'm happy to have gotten an advanced copy.

3.5 Stars

We first meet Emma Lawson in Accidentally Hers the first book in Jamie Beck’s Sterling Canyon series. Emma was always the “good girl” of her two best friends, Avery and Kelsey. She helps her mother run the family inn and takes food to the care center. But Emma is hiding a secret; one that could turn her whole world upside down. And now that secret just happens to be knocking on her front door in the form of snowboard extraordinaire Wyatt Lawson.

Wyatt stumbled into Sterling Canyon hoping to get his career back on track after taking time off to help his brother recover from a horrific snowboarding accident. He needs to be laser-focused to make the transition from slopestyle to freeriding “big mountain” competitions, especially with a camera crew led by dictatorial journalist Mari documenting his journey back to snowboarding. What he didn’t count on was a distraction in the form of a sweet innkeeper.

I was super excited about this book. With her friends Avery and Kelsey settled down with their fiancées, it was only right that it was Emma’s turn. She was the quiet one who I really admired for being the mediator in her friend group, which was especially hard with two strong personalities like Avery and Kelsey. For me, this book was good. Not stellar, re-read every couple months fantastic, but a good conclusion to the series nonetheless.

Because they already knew each other intimately (even if Wyatt seems a bit remiss in remembering that particular fact), the chemistry between Emma and Wyatt was like a slow simmer that seemed to grow as time passed.

“Wyatt, then. What can I do for you?”
“What are my choices?” His slow smile caused her spine to stiffen as she steeled herself against the empty flirtation. He held up his hands in surrender somehow sensing her discomfort, which embarrassed her. “Just kidding. It’s going to be a long month around here if you don’t relax a little. I don’t bite…unless I’m asked.”

Then, like any good not-watched pot, it turned into a full-grown boil, explosive and hot.

“Emma.” He came right up to her and cupped her face “Stop thinking for a few minutes. Just let go and give me control.”
And just like that, she dropped her shoes to the floor and gave in to his kiss.

Wyatt had a great mouth, with full ips and a very skilled tongue. Within seconds she’d abandoned all sense of right and wrong and let herself melt against him, her arms looping over his shoulders. A fallen woman…but, at the moment, a very happy one.

Whew! Don’t we all just want a Wyatt in our lives to loosen us up every once in a while? He provides some levity and sexual tension to their encounters that Emma refuses to acknowledge due to her secret. However, she had no problem getting involved with Wyatt and his family problems, sometimes in ways that rubbed me the wrong. Granted, her nosiness was just the kick in the pants Wyatt needed to mend some relationships.

Stubborn, thy name is Wyatt. There were points when I just wanted to shake him for not getting his head out of the sand. Shouldering some guilt over his brother Ryder’s accident, Wyatt hopes they can reconnect through the making of the documentary. Because Wyatt was moving at full-speed ahead, it took him a while to come to the realization that maybe being around snowboarding is not what is best for his brother. Their relationship was one filled with lack of communication but ultimately turned out to be one of my favorite parts of the whole book.
Despite my early annoyance with Emma, Jamie Beck did a wonderful job of allowing her to grow throughout the book. It’s not easy going after her dreams when Emma’s mother has constantly told her to make her family proud and not trust men. Considering Emma’s dreams are centered around men, one in particular, it was very difficult for her to learn to fight for what she wants.

Emma and Wyatt’s relationship was by no means easy, but when life hands them a second chance, they stuck to it like a blanket of fresh powder to the ground.

This is the third book in a series about three best friends. In this book you have Emma who runs an inn with her mother. The hero is a famous snowboarder named Wyatt with whom Emma had a one night stand a few years earlier. She went by a different name and so when Wyatt comes to train in Sterling Canyon and stay at her Inn with a film crew he doesn't recognize her. Emma hides behind her baggy clothes not wanting her mother or anyone knowing she has a different side to her personality. She writes erotic novels under a pen name loosely based on her one night with Wyatt. Even though Wyatt doesn't remember her he is attracted to her and they decide to have a relationship while he is there both knowing it will end when he leaves. The book had great chemistry. I really liked both Emma and Wyatt but I really liked Wyatt's brother Ryder. He is suffering from a brain injury that has changed him and watching Emma help and understand him was touching. This is a great book and series.

By day, Emma Duffy works at her family’s bed-and-breakfast in the Rockies. By night,
she secretly pens romance stories. Her life takes a story book turn when the man
with whom Emma shared a secret one-night stand that became the inspiration for her novel and its hero is booked at the B&B along with a film crew documenting his comeback. Thankfully…or not, he doesn’t remember her until the film crew uncovers Emma’s pen name and steamy novel. A fast, fun read about miscommunication and second chances.

I received an advance copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a really cute story. It's my first of the Sterling Canyon books, and I think I would have been slightly better served if I'd read the others but not much.

Emma is secretly an author, hiding beneath a pen name and a lot of guilt. Wyatt is a snowboarder recovering from a family tragedy. When they meet, sparks fly.

Like I said, the story was sweet. I identified with Emma and her shyness, though Wyatt could be a bit demanding for my tastes. There was erotic romance for people interested, but it wasn't too silly or graphic, for people like me who aren't. Despite minor bits of predictability, it was an enjoyable read. I'd definitely look into more of her books.

After reading the second book in this series, I didn't think twice before picking this up to review. And the writing remains as lovely.

Aside from one night of freedom years ago—which has led into her first published novel about to be published—, Emma has always been the good girl her mother hoped from her, especially after her father abandoned the family to follow his dream of Hollywood. Now she was left by herself to take care of the family's inn for a movie crew, the real version of her sexy character Dallas is back in her life, thus she needs to be careful not to be unmasked.

Montlake Romance books do have an appeal to me and this one was no exception. As was the previous number in the series, Unexpectedly Hers is even above average, compared to the others I have read from them. But it's impossible not to compare to Sterling Canyon #2, and this time I can't use the word above.. I did find a lot of the elements I loved in the second and the plot was even more interesting but the development of the story was a little flat. Again, this is better than most romance books but weaker when we're only talking about this series.

Character-wise, Emma was a good idea. Leading some sort of double life not because she wanted to fool others but because she wished her outside persona were her real self made my heart go to her. Also she's a great cook, how not to love? Her romantic interest Wyatt is a family guy even if he has the party boy fame. I liked how he wasn't a walking cliché whom Emma was supposed to break.

I think one of my issues with this book was when it came to the couple. I don't mean chemistry but I didn't find their getting together exciting and while they had a lot of material for a main conflict, the climax came and I felt even less willing to cheer for them. To be honest, that was a good excuse for conflict but a terrible reason for arguing. It was like the wrong person got angry there, and for being presumptuous. Pause for clicking my tongue here.

One nice point was an absence of rivals. There were lots of candidates, and I confess I hate that device in romances, so I was a little anxious every time a character seemed about to get in the way. Fortunately, Beck never went that route. For those following the series, you will love the appearances from previous characters, and Trip from #2 was again the funniest here. They gave a new life to a story that seemed on the brink of going stale, in my opinion.

In all, this was another heartwarming story from Jamie Beck. Family is the big theme here, as well as following your own passions while being yourself. I do recommend it to those who enjoy romance books, this is cute enough to warm your winter.

This book almost made it to a Did Not Finish, but I hung in there to avoid making this my 1st DNF for the year. It was an interesting idea, but the execution more often fell flat. The characters, the sexier moments, the ploy to make us sympathize with the unfortunates, and the moral of be true to yourself and not try to meet the expectations of the holier than thou mother all fell short of being something that could've been done better and earned this book a higher rating.

The sex really seemed odd to me. It felt as if the escapades -- whipped cream, tying, etc. -- were a bit cartoonish. I'm not even sure if the author stuck with more vanilla ideas if it would've been better. The scenes tried to shock but were completely unforgettable because it lacked emotion and sensuality.

As I don't usually read God-spiration books, I was sort of uncomfortable with the preachiness/justification. As it's part of the character, I just had to grit my teeth and get through it.

The only thing I wanted to hear more about was the food Emma prepared. 1-2 stars.

I really, really liked this book. Having read the first two in the series, I was very hopeful that I would like this one just as much. And well, I liked it even more.
Emma was an unusual heroine and I was totally on board with that. She was a very deeply developed character. She was so much more than her surface self. Wyatt was the perfect hero for Emma and also a lot more complex than he first appears. He too was a very well-developed and a lot more than what was on the surface. I instantly fell in love with both of them and was cheering them on throughout the book. Jamie really knows how to get you to care about her characters. The side characters, particularly Ryder, Wyatt's brother, really caught me in his story and I so hope there will be a book about him some day.
Very interesting storyline. Another great read in the Sterling Canyon series.

I liked Wyatt, he was sweet and down to Earth, “I’ve never failed to reach any goal I’ve set. If that makes me cocky, so be it.” He kissed her hand again. “Stay with me tonight?” I enjoyed this book. I thought Emma and Wyatt made a great team.

Unexpectedly Hers is the third book in the Sterling Canyon series by Jamie Beck. It is not necessary to have read the first two books as this can be read as a standalone novel. But I suggest reading Accidentally Hers and Secretly Hers so that you will understand why I had to give this one such a low rating.

I was really looking forward to reading this book and I was so disappointed when I didn't like it. Jamie Beck has created a fun series set in a small Colorado tourist town with great characters, but this book felt like it was something different than the first two. It wasn't the sweet love story I expected as the first two had been. But more than anything, I never connected with either of the main characters. When you are flipping ahead in a romance story to read about what happens to the secondary characters, it's a bad sign. Emma was annoying, Wyatt was obnoxious and I couldn't figure out what these two were supposed to like about each other besides sex. And Emma's mother was just the worst. I was more interested in what was happening with Wyatt's brother, Ryder, and handyman Andy than with the couple.

Ms. Beck is a great writer and I am not giving up on this series because I hope to read Andy's love story someday soon, but this one was not for me.

Another solid book, the characters are beginning to grow on me more. I just wish that Emma was more forthcoming.
