When we are in a season of waiting it can be very frustrating, difficult, and stressful. This book helps us work through the questions of why me, why wait, why why why. The author does a great job addressing the stress and anxieties of waiting and relates to Bible versus and God’s timing and plan for our lives.

Nice read. Not my favorite. She presents interesting points in an easy to understand way. I just felt like I wanted something more.

We're all waiting for something from God: a job, a spouse, a baby, a cure. . . And the period in between His answers can feel like a wasteland where dreams—and faith—go to die. How can the Bible help you navigate your journey through that painful, lonely territory, and come out on the other side with your faith, your joy, and your relationships intact? Author Elizabeth Laing Thompson invites you to walk alongside people of the Bible who had to wait on God. . .like David, Joseph, Miriam, and Naomi. Their stories will equip you to live your own story—particularly your problematic waiting times—with faith, patience, perspective, and a healthy dose of humor.

It's hard when God says wait and we want to move forward in our life. The author gives us good insight on how to wait. Well written and an enjoyable read.

When God Say wait, is a good book to understand and learn to trust God and obey Him. Stop what you doing and spend time with the Lord, and this book. A real have to read book.

Patience is not something that comes easily to me. I consistently pray for help with this struggle so I was thrilled to be able to read this book.

I can frequently accept God's answer of "yes" and even when the answer is "no" I can embrace it. The answer of "wait" is not something that sits well with me and this book is helping me to come to terms with that. It is full of Bible examples of when God asked believers to wait and the stories have great examples that are applicable to us today. It is so uplifting to be shown again and again how relevant that Bible remains and how much support and help we can gain from it.

Waiting.... one of the hardest things we have to do. Thompson uses biblical women to illustrate how when we wait God can use it for good. Always an important lesson?

I loved this book so much I bought myself a copy.
I love the raw depth to it. The author doesn't sugarcoat the pain of waiting and deals with it through providing truth from the Bible. I loved the practical applications from the experiences of people in the Bible.
Overall, a great, encouraging read.

I received a copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was not my favorite bible study book. The writing style had a sarcastic tone that I found annoying. The beginning of the book dragged and didn’t have a lot of substance. As the book went on I found some of the words comforting, not enlightening or new perspectives on the bible stories.

I think I am a tough critic because I have already read many books on waiting for answered prayer.

This book was Average.

Who would like this book…..
Someone struggling with waiting on answered prayer might find comfort in this book.
If you haven’t already read several books on waiting for answered prayer this book organizes bible verses referencing waiting and patience all in one place.

If you are in a season of waiting (and ESPECIALLY if you are struggling with it) you need to read this book. When God Says "Wait" is the guide for how to work through the process when we don't get the answers we are waiting for.

Each chapter focuses on one of the "waiting warriors" in the Bible and how they struggled with being patient with God. From Miriam waiting for her brother Moses to become a great man in Egypt to Sarah waiting for the child God promised her, we learn how to find patience in hearing the experiences of others going through the same struggles.

This is a wonderful resource, providing an abundance of Scripture references about waiting on God's timing, not taking matters into our own hands and understanding that God doesn't put an expiration date on his promises and that his plans don't always follow our timelines.

My rating: <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1972503330">4 of 5 stars</a><br /><br />
It's not often that I read a non-fiction book, simply because I find that I enjoy a lot of fiction books. However, this one came across as one that I could really use and it was. This devotional book was written from a female perspective for females mainly. I can see where it would benefit male readers as well. <br /><br />Utilizing popular Bible stories, <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/96111.Elizabeth_Laing_Thompson" title="Elizabeth Laing Thompson" rel="nofollow">Elizabeth Laing Thompson</a> uses Miriam, Sarah, Hannah, Naomi, David, Jacob, Ruth, Mary, Gideon, Joseph, Martha, and Abraham to explain how sometimes in our lives, God does say, "Wait". Each of these Biblical people faced uncertain dilemmas in life and had to wait for the right time before receiving answers they were searching for. <br /><br />Some of my favorite quotes from this book include: <br /><br />"When battles change us, even wound us, we can use our scars for good: They are reminders of God's power in our weakness."<br /><br />"...build a life where he is in that moment."<br /><br />"The ability to comfort others who are going through a similar trial. The ability to sympathize--and strongly."<br /><br />"Never forget this: Our suffering becomes our story. God's nos are a much a part of our testimony as His yeses."<br /><br />There is also great advice given in this book. Something I often struggle with is remaining positive, especially when it feels like the world is crumbling down around you. The author suggests to write down three things that happened in a positive way or three ways you saw God at work. Do this daily before going to bed each night. Focus on these things and keep your mind from wandering to the negative, especially before bedtime, but also to help you wake up refreshed and more positive for the coming day. <br /><br />I appreciate how the author used these situations we read of in the Bible to remind me that, first of all, I'm not alone. Waiting can be so hard, no matter what it is you may be waiting on. Secondly, this book helped me to refocus my thoughts on Biblical matters and I found a deeper connection with these people by re-reading their stories and struggles. Third, I found this book to be very encouraging. Not only will it have you spending more time in the Word, but also reflecting on different situations you and your loved ones may be facing. Be encouraged to know that whatever it is you are going through, you are not alone in the wait. It can seem like it at times but remaining faithful and true to the Lord will reap bountiful rewards in the end. <br /><br />I do hope that you will find encouragement in this post! I would recommend this to anyone hurting from the wait of your answer. I encourage you to have your Bible handy and read these accounts from the Bible, then read the devotional and commentary on each situation and apply it to your life. Be prayerful while reading this as well....I found myself having an even more active prayer life during the reading of this book and even since then. Finally, reach out to someone to pray for you, encourage you, whatever you need...you're not in this alone!!<br /><br />Thank you to Barbour Publishing and the author for a complimentary review copy made available to me on NetGalley.com. What you have read are my honest thoughts and opinions on this book.

I am a big reader and LOVE this book. It is so well-written and relate-able. She tackles the issues of disappointments and waiting with compassion and depth. I love the way the author includes little snippets of fiction helping the reader picture the people in the Bible. The questions at the end of each chapter where helpful and thoughtful. I have just finished reading it and I did not want it to end. I am thinking that I may just read it again!--Highly recommend. This is the first time I have read this author, but I will definitely be looking for more of her books.

Waiting. Something that is extremely difficult for most of us to do. Especially when we've gotten used to being a microwave society and having most things at our fingertips. But sometimes, God makes us wait. And there's nothing we can do to change his mind. This book gives the reader practical insight into the art of waiting, using several biblical examples. Not only biblical examples, but personal ones as well. A phenomenal read that will help you in your spiritual walk

This book was easy to read and really encouraging. Every chapter starts with the story of a person in the bible, how they dealt with their time of waiting and what we can learn from them. I found the chapter on prayer my favourite. Prayer can be so hard when it feels like God isn't listening or answering. That chapter reminded me the importance of persistent prayer and that God hears and cares about every single one. That alone made this book a worthwhile read.

4.5 stars

When God Says "Wait" was a very good read. I loved how the chapters opened -- by taking a Bible story and expanding it to how the author sees the story. It was quite interesting and gave new perspective to certain stories and I appreciated how every "retelling (as I called them) had the Bible passage for that story listed at the beginning, so you could look it up and compare the two.

I loved how easy the chapters were to read. It was also encouraging for those who are in a season of "wait" -- whether in love, life, or something else.

All in all, an intriguing read and I recommend it.

A book I did not know I was waiting for. I have read waiting books and they are not always my cup of tea. They can be condescending or a useless diatribe that goes round in circles. This is NOT those books. This book is encouraging and uplifting and funny. I would describe this book as a much needed conversation with a girlfriend over coffee as you laugh, cry, get angry, pout for a little, you get honest and raw but at the end of it all walk away stronger and equip for what you are still going through.
There are twelve chapters in this book, each tied to a character in the Bible who waited and their story. Now some of the characters we know and recognize their wait we know their story but some you may not recognize the wait of the journey of the wait but then you get into their story and you see it and recognize it. Each chapter ends with further reading (Bible verses for the character), Journal prompt(loved this) and Prayer prompt (Psalms).
This book had me scribbling verse to look up and spend time with during my quiet time. Highlighting and taking notes. Shaking my head and nodding all at the same time. I love to journal and this book was a great catalyst for that, besides the journal prompts I just found myself working out and working through so many things.
The author was real, sharing her own story along the way, encouraging us the reading while sharing in our journey.

When God Says Wait by Elizabeth Laing Thompson is an insightful book on the journey through the in-between places of our dreams or needs and God's answer. With unabashed honesty, humor and humility, the author tells her stories of the times when God has said 'wait' and also discusses the waiting stories of twelve individuals from the Bible. She shares a number of pitfalls to avoid and the skills needed to survive. The book is bathed in scripture, easy to read and down to earth--like a friend sharing heart to heart across the table. At the end of each chapter, there are several scriptures listed for further study, questions to help the reader explore deeper and perhaps answer in a journal and a prayer prompt as well. When God Says Wait is a well-thought out treatise on how to respond to what seem to be detours and delays in answered prayers, reminding the reader that we can control how we wait and who we become as we wait. It is a book that would work well for group or individual study.

Why? When? How long? Why me? Wait, wait, wait! Sometimes, God answers yes, no, and wait.

The author of this book, gives us many ways to look at the way that God has us wait for His answers.
She acknowledges that we all hate to wait, but when we have to wait, we have to learn that we can control how we wait and who we become along the way of waiting. These journeys can shape us to make us into the people He created us to be.

She uses examples of people throughout the Bible and how they had to wait for answers in their lives: Mariam, Sarah, Hannah, Naomi, David, Jacob, Ruth, Mary, Gideon, Joseph, Martha, and Abraham.

Like us, none of them were happy that they had to wait for their answers, but they did grow along the journey of waiting, some of the journeys taking decades of waiting.

We learn ways of waiting and becoming stronger through it.

I recommend this book to those who are in the midst of having to wait for an answer, and need support as they go through this time.
