I liked To Catch a Killer for the most part. It wasn't anything special and it definitely had a twist. I felt like I needed to finish it. I liked the characters. But for some reason it just wasn't anything spectacular. I don't know if I'll read the sequel. |
So I honestly don't remember what drew me in besides the cover and sometimes that works for me, unfortunately this time it didn't. I can't give you a full review of reasons either it was simply that the story did not excite me enough but since it was an excerpt i did finish it just did not care for it much. |

Great to read the start of the book. I look forward to reading the full version. |
I absolutely loved this preview! I was immediately sucked into the story. I love a good mystery, and I can tell that this one is definitely going to deliver. The descriptions and imagery were excellent - I could really picture myself in every scene. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. I want to know more about Erin and her mother, her relationship with Rachel, her friends, her teacher - everything. As soon as I finished the preview, I downloaded this on Audible. I can't wait to learn more! |

I received a preview excerpt of this which consisted of 14 chapters of this YA thriller. When I requested this I didn't notice the recommendation of YA and this book is definitely written for that genre although it can be enjoyed by everyone. I didn't get to read the whole thing so I would like to know how this ends but I would definitely recommend this to YA's who enjoy thrillers . |
I received a 14 chapter preview of To Catch a Killer from NetGalley via the publisher, and I can't wait to read the entire novel. I'm dying to finish Erin's story and am definitely going to buy a copy when it's published, which isn't too long from now. *flails* The length of the preview was more than I expected, and I kept an eye on how much was left so when it ended I wouldn't be too jarred and traumatized. ;) I'm invested in this story and the characters, and am anxiously waiting to find out how everything is going to play out. |

I did not finish this book as I did not engage with the story or the characters. |
I liked the characters, the plot was pretty good and although in some moments it's easy to read by others it becomes a little heavy, on the other hand this isn't what mainly annoys me , actually was that I end up being quite predictable and I'm a little disappointed about because I think the most important thing in a crime and mystery book is to surprise you and leave you speechless, but that hasn't happened. PS: The cover is incredible, I really love it and it goes well with the plot of the book 3.5 / 5 Stars |
I love this book so far! Can't wait to get the finished Copy this Week. |
I only planned to read the first chapter before lunch but there was no way i could stop. The first page pulled me in and i didn't stop until i'd read the entire excerpt. Erin, the main character is highly intriguing and i can't wait to buy the whole book so i can see what happens. |
“To catch a killer” is the clash of a teenage/high school romance and mistery solving. When Erin Blake is confronted with her favourite’s teacher dead body on what it seems a crime related to her past she takes it upon herself to investigate even further. With the help of her very amusing group of friends and the involvement of her crush, she tries to connect this unfortunate situation to one that has scarred her her whole life: the murder of mother. This is another high school themed book with a fast pace and easy to read. The story is captivating and engaging. We can easily read this without it feeling tiresome. Even though I do believe it’s an easy reading I feel that it’s not the most original storyline when concerning the love interest. It could easily work without it, just a smart girl, very involved in forensic science that is trying to puzzle the pieces of the various murders in her life. |
Saw this one hyped by a booktuber (can't remember who) and was thrilled to see a preview here on netgalley. Great start to this one! First person POV can turn me off on a book really easily it works really well in this one and the overall voice feels authentic. Can't wait for the full release! |
If you're someone who hasn't read a lot of mystery books or wants to start with something I'd recommend you to pick this one up. But for a thriller novel this probably will not be for you. Though the pacing was a little slow at first but it got better and a but faster as the story develops. I would pick this one up when it comes out because I want to know who the killer is |
I rarely ever read thrillers. But when I heard about this, I wanted to try it. Tor is one of my favorite publishers and I had no idea they published thrillers once in a while. Read my full on Goodreads! |
I really enjoyed this sampler. I can hardly wait for the book to hit the shelves! |
~ TO CATCH A KILLER ~ 2/5 In this book we are introduced to Erin. As a toddler Erin survived 3 days alongside her mothers dead body, eating from the bottom shelf of the fridge, and drinking toilet water. 14 years later Erin is again involved in a brutal homicide of her biology teacher. But to this day her mothers case has yet to be solved. The synopsis of this book sounded really interesting. I've never really read a ya mystery/thriller before. But I honestly didn't enjoy this book. Although it was fast paced, I didn't get attached to any of the characters, I found myself not caring what happened to them. The only character I liked was spam (Hate the name) I liked her quirky sense of style: "She’s wearing a short, puffy vest that’s gray and clear. Looking closer, I realize she made it out of duct tape and Bubble Wrap." I was really hoping to enjoy this book for my first mystery/thriller, but it was a big let down. |
I am really loving this book! I received a preview excerpt from Netgalley, and couldn't put it down - In fact, when my kindle wouldn't go to the next page because it was at the end, a "Nooooooo" escaped my lips and startled the students in my library! Erin has long hoped to solve her mother's murder, but she never imagined that forensics would cause a second murder, or that she'd be accused of it. All Erin wanted with the DNA was to find out who her father might be, and she was just dropping the samples off for her teacher to see if they shared any matches with her own DNA. Erin was shocked to see Miss Peters lying in a pool of blood, and the boy of Erin's dreams slinking off in the shadows. Things aren't always what they seem, and maybe together Erin and fellow murder suspect Journey can solve all three murders in their lives. |
