In this second installment of the Boys of Summer series, we have Cooper Bailey. He has his chance to prove himself in the majors. His focus is his career. Girls have never been a top priority to him. His dad made sure to keep him focused on the prize. Women are nothing but trouble. When he meets Ainsley, he quickly realizes she is his game changer. She was also the last thing he expected.
Ainsley’s love for animals is why she works at the Zoo. She is also taking care of her very sick mother and doesn’t have time for a personal life. Although her mother does want her to have a life, a love one especially, she also forbids her to date any guys who plays sports. When Ainsley meets Cooper and has an instant connection to him, she is torn.
I honestly love how quickly they connected and how patient Copper is. It wasn’t a rush to the bed kind of romance. When it happened, it was beautiful and amazing.
I disliked that Ainsley completely shut down and said hurtful things when her mother fell really ill. Then months later, she reappears in Cooper’s life. For me, Cooper and Ainsley really lacked that I love you so much connection. They don’t see each other for a while and then when they do, it is I love you sooo much. I wish there had been a little bit more build- up to those feelings before things went to hell.
Overall, it was a good read. I adored the characters and admired their strength and weakness during their struggles.
Their roads to each other wasn’t an easy one. It was fun and heartbreaking.
A beautiful, sad but entertaining read.
