Satisfying graphic novel- I enjoyed reading! Will be recommending this book to my customers. |
I did request this sample but I never had the chance to download and read it. Thank you for the opportunity. |
Nina LaCour beautifully captures the emotions of young adults. This sneak peek was just enough to show that she is right on target portraying the journey and struggles of a young woman navigating a difficult life. Looking forward to reading the book in its entirety. |

I read this except and ended up picking up the book from the library to finish. I loved that this wasn't just about a bisexual or lesbian girl (not entirely sure if she was solidly one or the other) pining over her straight-ish friend. Not everything miserable in your life comes from unrequited love, no matter what gender or sexuality you identify with. It made for a more interesting story. |
The sneak peek did nothing to raise my curiosity nor interest in this book. From the intro I could not even figure out what time period this piece is, who is relevant to the story, or what the story was even about. |
I purchased a copy of this book after reading the preview. The story is about two best friends, but after the death of one of their grandfathers they drift apart. I loved seeing that even though the unthinkable happened, they cared and loved each other. I loved seeing their relationship play out. Would definitely recommend this book to my students and friends! |

This was only a sample so I'd have to read the entire book to offer an honest review, but so far it's been worth my time and I defiiitely know the audience to whom it should be recommended. |
Wow. I finished this book in one sitting and I still can't stop thinking about it. It was my first Nina Lacour novel, and it has left me wanting for more of her words, her characters. I was a bit afraid when I started reading We are Okay, I thought that maybe I wouldn't like the story, since it takes place in the span of a few days, and that maybe it'd be too introspective for my taste but I was oh so wrong. This book was everything I wanted it to be and so much more. I related a lot to Marin, I too lost my mother and I've been left with a lot of questions surrounding her, just like Marin, and reading about her grief mirrored my own, it was both very painful and liberating. I also loved her relation with Mabel, and all the details of the story. How it was about family, first love, grief, growing up, growing apart, and finding oneself again. And the words, oh the words, they all sounded so beautiful, and accurate. As if Nina Lacour had chosen her words very carefully. It was beautiful. And painful, too. I absolutely loved it, and I highly recommend it. Also, I ABSOLUTELY loved that the book was diverse, it was so refreshing! I really need to chose the books I read carefully, and I need to read more books with diverse characters! |
Nina LaCour is brilliant, and her fifth novel is even better than the last. This is a tale of grief, and what happens when you learn that someone wasn't who you thought they were, and even worse, feeling as though you could have fixed what happened if you'd just paid attention. Short but no less engaging. |
A sneak peak at this book was not enough! I slid right into reading it and it seems like it is going to be a great story! I am looking forward to reading the whole book in the near future. |
Looking very much forward to the actual book! It was GOOD! |
The Listed books below I didn't finish because I either lost interest or didn't like them to finish them! |
A very intriguing beginning. I've always enjoyed LaCour's writing ever since I read Everything Leads to You and this was no exception. She just has a way with a turn of phrase. I liked the slight mystery so far, makes me want to read more. I will definitely check out the full book when I have an opportunity. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this sneak peak in exchange for an honest review. |
The cover is pretty, the synopsis pick my interest and I saw lot positive review from my goodreads feed so my expectation went up and unfortunately, it did not live my expectation. I am sad to say that I feel nothing when reading this book. Maybe because it started slow and I can't relate to the character |

It's only a sneak peek, but it's enough to have you wanting to read the whole story. |
I am sorry that I didn't get a chance to read this excerpt before it was archived. |

I’d like to thank NetGalley, Dutton books and the author Nina LaCour for allowing me to read an advanced copy in exchange for an unbiased review. Unfortunately, I just could not get into this book despite trying 3 times. It did absolutely nothing for me and I just couldn’t get interested in it. The main character, Marin, is just dull and there wasn’t anything that made me want to continue reading. Suffice it to say that I hope I’m a rarity and others will find the book fascinating. I am a reader who enjoys a fast read so perhaps that’s my issue with this book. As I’m well aware, reading books is definitely a personal matter that reacts with our intelligence, preferences etc. I’m very glad that others will enjoy it more than I did! |
Based off this sneak peek, We Are Okay is going to be a heartbreak of a novel. Since this was only a preview, I have not yet had the chance to read the whole book, but I do have it checked out and am looking forward to finishing it. |
