Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team Kris – ☆☆☆☆ It's been ages since I've read any Urban Fantasy books, but the title and blurb of Dating the Undead drew me in and I wanted to give it a try. Silver Harris is a single woman and jewelry clerk living in London. She lives in a flat with an old Hollywood film star for a roommate. At a New Year’s party with her boyfriend, she finds him making out with another woman and causes a scene. Being kicked out of the party in a hasty retreat, she bumps into Logan. Vampires are out and proud in London and Silver can’t believe she just bumped into one, not only that, he's HOT! The two spark up a conversation and end the evening with a steamy but mostly chaste kiss. Silver can’t believe she can’t quit thinking about a vampire, and Logan finally feels SOMETHING in his still heart for Silver. Thinking that maybe vampires are the way to date, Silver gets onto a vampire dating site called V-date, but it's really just one vampire that has her real interest. There's a plot twist in there as Silver has always wondered what happened in the mysterious disappearance of her mother many years ago and finds it could be vampire related. There's a good amount of suspense and action that kept the book rolling really well. I enjoyed the story and the snarky heroine, Silver. Logan and Silver had some pretty good steam and the ending was a good one. Really enjoyed the premise! Erica – ☆☆☆ 3.5 stars Juliet Lyons is a new-to-me author. Dating the Undead was an enjoyable, humorous, quick read. It was the perfect way to find a slice of entertainment for a few hours and uplift my mood. I'm not a fan of humorous books, to be honest, but this was written in a way that it felt natural instead of the slapstick, over-the-top, forced comedy that has me shying away from most books with a humor tag. Lyons did an excellent job with the levity, changing my mind on giving other books a chance that include humor. Silver was a fun character, modern and independent, but just as insecure as she is confident, making it easy for most women to identify with her. She didn't take herself too seriously, just rolling with it. After having a horrible time dating humans, she creates a profile on a vampire/human dating app, wanting to give the vampers a try after meeting Logan on the street outside of a party. I loved the beginning of Dating the Undead, as Silver was going on dates with the vamps – it was a hilarious adventure. Truthfully, I would have loved more of this to be honest. Logan was also a great character – our vamp. Sexy, patient, borderline stalking, Logan was a yummy, humorous addition to the novel. The pair were steamy together with a ton of banter volleying back and forth. The vampire culture and world-building were interesting and unique, but I wished I had just a bit more of it. Maybe it's because it's the first in the series, and the author wishes to expand it slowly over the course of the series. But I need a bit more to connect with the characters and the paranormal culture. What didn't work for me: around the halfway mark, when Silver and Logan were together, the pacing started to drag and my interest waned. The cop story didn't fit whatsoever, and it seemed thrown in there, causing me to feel distracted and disinterested in the thread of storyline. I highly recommend to fans of paranormal romance who love a twist of humor with their fangy between-the-sheets action. |
I was really drawn to this book and the supernatural element. But, I ended up finding it too distracting from the story and it felt like the "vampire" element became more important to the story than the romance, which made this a book that I ended up skimming. While I did finish the title, I have chosen not to review as my rating will be under a 3, which is not fair to the title or author as I did skim. I appreciate the opportunity. Laura |
DATING THE UNDEAD introduces a world where vampires are “out” and don’t need blood to survive. It’s also a world where vampires need a website to find dates though, which is a bit strange. The vampire mythology was interesting: the elder vampires cannot be killed - even decapitation is only temporary! - but the vampires are much more like traditional vamps with weaknesses. Learning about these weaknesses is why Silver, and the London Police Department start spying on vampires using the V-Dates.com website. Silver Silver and Logan are hot together, and their romance goes through many typical PNR tropes: keeping secrets, trying to stay apart to protect each other, scorching hot sex. But I was also super confused as to why they like each other. Their meeting was pretty random, and apart from the fact that they “can’t stop thinking about each other”, I never felt like they had that much in common. DATING THE UNDEAD is a book with really sexy love scenes and a few surprises that kept things interesting, but it failed to be either super corny or super dark. It was constantly toeing the line which left it a bit bland. Not bad, but bland. |
Well this was a fun read by an author I have never picked up before. What really attracted me to this book/series was the premise of the book. Vampire online dating!!! It has to be super hilarious having all these old and ancient vampires navigating the world of the world wide web. I mean think of it this way– how hard is it to teach your parents to use a cell phone and they are about 20-30 years younger than YOU. Now apply this to ancient vamps. Now the story didn’t go the way I have anticipated but Logan Byrne was sexy as hell with his Irish accent (probably would be best to experience in audiobook). Who really steals the show is Silver Harris as the girl doesn’t STOP! There is entirely too much spunk in her. Being in the world of Vampires I’m surprised she didn’t inadvertently piss of a vamp and get herself killed. However all is well when you got Logan protecting you. And protecting he does as Logan’s past catches up to him that puts both of them in danger. Also doesn’t help that Silver is actively looking for trouble by signing up for the online dating website for personal motives. However, some of the parts of the book were a bit rushed through as far as explanations especially towards the end. The book took a while to develop through at a steady pace and then all the resolutions and answers were done with and over in the last 10-15%. I enjoyed the quirky writing and characters enough to stick it out for the next book. It was a REALLY good 10-15% that is making me stay for Romancing The Undead. |
A dating sites for vampires - V-date. com the first book in this series by this author. Its a funny look at dating - the modern women has choices in dates and Silver does. After a chance meeting on New Year Eve with Logan a kiss leads Silver into signing up for V- Date .com. But Logan is the vamp she wants but with that trouble of the vamp kind, A cute book with a fun attitude - looking forward to see what happens in the next book, |
A fantastic vampire romance. Not at all what I expected having read the "typical" vampire romances. It was fun, with a great story and steamy love scenes. Usually the Vampires in romances are broody, moody and overbearing, but not in this story. It doesn't take itself too seriously and the character are witty and hilarious without being cheesy. A great start to a new series! |
Dating the Undead is a fun start to a new series by Juliet Lyons. Lots of sass, romance, and sexy time that steams up the pages. I loved the fresh take on the vampire world. Sign me up for V-Date! *ARC provided by NetGalley for an honest review. |
This was a DNF by two reviewers so we won't be posting a review |
Dating The Undead is certainly not the usual vampire-human romance we’ve come to expect. In this world vampires are no longer a hidden mystery but out and about in society quite openly. The thought that the vampire’s mesmerizing talents are not used to find them the perfect match is endearing for thinking of a vampire on a dating site simply tickles my need to laugh out loud, in a good way. Quite simply, I had such fun with this story. Logan is worthy of every swoon moment I had while reading his story. He’s old world, a bit of his heritage flows through in his words and actions. While he may have a particular job to fulfill with the dating site, it’s Silver who draws his attention in ways he never expected. Due to the life he’d lived because of his maker, Logan doesn’t expect good things. Silver is the exception to that rule of his life and he has no intention of letting this beauty get away. He may not have expected to find a life mate on a dating site, but giving up Silver now is out of the question. Silver is… gosh, she’s so unlike any other heroine I’ve read. She’s got absolutely no filter from her thoughts to her mouth… none. She’s witty, full of snarky banter and she takes no crap from anyone. (there is one other character from a Shifter series that even comes close to Silver’s way of speaking her mind without thought or care) From the first scene to the very last word I simply adored this character. Although she may at times seem to have a death wish, her own personal knight is there to protect her. (and I didn’t overlook the obvious delight at her name as pertaining to vampires either – that brought about a startled chuckle) All this lighthearted fun is not to say that there aren’t some very dark moments in Dating The Undead. There are definitely villains afoot, mysteries to solve and danger to avoid if possible. There were some twists that didn’t truly make sense for me, however, I’m reminded that this is the first in a series so those may play out further down the series line. In all, Dating The Undead is a fun, secy, dangerous take on the vampire lore and the dating site scene. I would definitely recommend this story for any Paranormal Romance, Romantic Comedy or even Romantic Suspense reader. A solid story, a villain to hate, sensuous moments, interesting secondary characters and a world that is easy to fall into and believe what happens there. That’s pretty much what I expect from a really good Paranormal Romance. Now comes the wait for the next story in this series, due I believe sometime in the Fall of 2017. Definitely looking forward to continuing this series. *I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.* |

Dating the Undead was a contemporary romance but with vampires. And it was fun and sexy and totes fangy. There is a good amount of vampire lore in the book, but it's shared in a way that it doesn't get boring or get a "let's look back in history" vibe. I loved both main characters, Logan and Silver. They were edgy and entertaining. Plus, their chemistry was so fun. I just really enjoyed this book. I can not wait for the next book in the series. And now all I want to read is paranormal romance. |
Dating the Undead started strong. There was humor, fun characters, a quirky storyline, hot sex, some intrigue… But after the hot sex happened, it just sort of stalled and I got bored quickly. Definitely worth a read because I like different and this is a new twist on vampires with the dating website and all… If you enjoy PNR that isn’t like all other PNR, with some wit and humor, check this one out. |
I enjoyed this book very much. I loved how Silver was sassy throughout the entire book. even though I enjoyed the book I couldn't give it a full five stars as I hit parts were it just seemed to drag and I had to skip some pages in order to get back into it. I loved the twist and turns the book took and was pleasantly surprised by how it ended as I didn't expect it to go in that direction. This was the first book by Juliet Lyons and I was glad that I had read it. I can't wait to see more by this author and hope to see more of the V-Date.Com series. |
Dating The Undead was a little less what I expected but had some things I totally wasn't expecting yet still managed to keep my attention despite some areas where the story hit a couple snags and lingered too long in some places I felt could have done without the added plot and useless character interactions. That being said, I did like that the characters mostly carried the story - I do like heavy character plot than actual story plot sometimes since I tend to have a habit of getting deeply invested in the who is who, how, and why they are the way they are, their backgrounds and histories and all the little tid bits that tend to get left in the wind in a lot of books. Dating the Undead includes a lot of past history but sadly not really in the way I was hoping. As a whole Dating the Undead didn't quite feel totally fleshed out or expanded in areas I felt could have used a little extra attention and a little long in areas I felt could have been done without all together however I still liked our h/h, I liked their journey together even with the whole little too heavy too obsessed too soon. I let that go so I could sit back and enjoy the ride without paying much attention to the road signs on the trip. Dating the Undead was still very much worth the read as long as I didn't look too deep and the humor was very much liked. Also the ending hook grabbed me enough that I do plan on picking up the next book in this series. |
Holy smokes, this book is sizzling hot! It had two things that will instantly make me love a book: snarky tough chick and sexy vampires. Silver (I know, you get over the name) is still reeling from her latest dramatic breakup on New Year's Eve when she finds herself face-to-face with a super sexy vampire. Yes, in this world vampires are "out of the coffin," but that doesn't mean they are universally loved. Silver, however, is willing to take a walk on the wild side, especially since this vampire is giving her more chemistry than her latest date. This unlikely couple ends up being the key component to both their worlds, whether they want it to or not. For Logan (the sexy vampire), it appears that Silver is somehow linked to a police undercover operation that he has been tasked with forcibly removing from her memory. After their meeting, however, it is simply impossible for him to do so. Silver, for her part, hides her own secrets from Logan, while continuing to live in denial where there relationship is concerned. Oh, and there's a bad guy (or girl, rather) that's looming over Logan's head (more secrets). I think that about sums up the odds against them. Of course, I loved every second! If you're looking for a super sexy and super smutty paranormal read - you'll love rooting for this unlikely (and completely snarky) couple. I couldn't get enough of Logan and Silver, flaws and all. |
A very unique story. After catching her boyfriend with another girl, Silver has had it with men. Then she meets sexy vampire Logan who sweeps her off her feet and had their first kiss on New Years eve . It's fun, sexy, and full of surprises.book.. There are steamy hot scenes as well. I can't wait to read the next book in this series. |
Silver and Logan, a vampire, meet and kiss on New Year ’s Eve. As a result, Silver decides to join a dating site that is for vampires. Unfortunately, it’s not really working out for her. The police have a proposition for her that she accepts and suddenly Logan is back in her life and things get a little sticky. Silver is not my favorite heroine. She annoyed me and it felt like she tried too hard to be a tough chick and it just didn’t work. Logan was a pretty decent hero but not really all alpha the way I like. I struggled with this one for the first half but the second half seemed to smooth out and I was suddenly very invested in this couple and their situation. Told in dual POV it moved pretty well, especially the last fifty percent. There is no abuse or triggers to speak of unless violence by and to vampires isn’t your thing. Brilliant mix of fun, vampires, sass, sex, love and fighting! Would love to see this as a film it was great |
5☆ Dating with Bite When I see the cover for Dating the Undead I loved it... the blurb was exciting. It didn't disappoint! The whole concept for a vampire dating site where humans and Vamps can meet & mix is fantastic... it's fresh, and so different from the "normal" dark vampire books. V-Date is the name of the Vampire dating service. However it does attract attention from all kinds of people... including those with influencing power! As to why they have an interest.... well all will be revealed! So when Silver joins up to meet her Vamp, she never believes she will meet Logan again. He's sexy, hot and intriguing! Both feel a connection instantly..... was it by chance Logan is to meet Silver again or just fate?? Dating the Undead kept me hooked the whole way through. There is so much packed into the first book it's exciting, plenty of twists to keep the reader enthralled. Lots of chance encounters, plenty of risks, an undercover plot, sizzling passion and sexy vamps.... what more could you need! I loved Silver, she has a lot of determination and isn't scared easily. Her fear of nothing often got her into plenty of mishaps which was great! She was the perfect female lead. Her character had me laughing out loud many times throughout the book, with her no filter, Witty attitude. Logan was everything you want from a sexy vamp. He was mysterious, but had a kind heart, he oozes masculinity, yet he was charming, and the spark between Silver and Logan was sizzling. Plenty of steamy sex scenes to get your pulses racing! Can't wait for book 2. I have a strong feeling this series is going to be a big hit! Would I recommend this book...... 100% YES!!! A fresh and exciting new Vamp book. I love reading new vampire books with a difference. This one is no exception it has it all a mix of fresh new Vamp action and the charms of the old school vamp ie, glamourising humans to forget! I Recommend to readers who love Vampire books, fantasy, Paranormal Romances, Stong lead characters. |
This is a great book; this is the first book in the V-Date.com series written by Juliet Lyons. When Silver Harris kisses sexy Irish vampire Logan Byrne on New Year's Eve, she knows other humans just won't suffice. Convinced she'll never see him again, she joins the uber-popular vampire dating site, V-Date.com. What Silver doesn't know is that the site is more dangerous than she could ever imagined, and soon she's in over her head. When Logan returns, sparks fly and attraction sizzles, but they'll have to escape some very real demons if they have any chance of lasting forever. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review. |
