Was grateful to receive a free copy in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately this was not my type of book. I was looking for a little more romance and a lot less of a history lesson. The traditional Indian names also made it very difficult for me to relate to the characters. Overall, the book was well written, it just wasn't for me

Summer, 1800. There is no rain. Heat bakes the prairie. What little game survives on the trickles of water in the shrinking creeks is fiercely hunted not just by the Cheyenne, but by their enemies, the Pawnee.
I really tried getting into this book, but I just couldn’t. The POV bounced around too much, not only between the main characters listed but also other characters for no discernable reason. Also, unfortunately because of the POV of several characters (including his own), I disliked Grey Bear right from the beginning. This made it hard to get into the book.

1 helm - Did Not Finish

Please follow me on my blog :) Review originally posted on Vellum Voyages (www.vellumvoyages.com)

Ok you know what? I tried and I just couldn't finish this book.I stopped at 9%, yeap a new low for me, as I usually like to stick it out a bit more, but I just knew this book relationship was not going to work out. At least I gave it a chance and that's my only consolation as I hate not finishing books, but time is too precious right now :(

Why did this not work for me? There were just too many characters right from the start and my brain just couldn't handle it! As silly as that explanation is, that's exactly what happened. The style of writing had a good flow, so it was a real shame.

The story of Cheyenne hunters/warriors and their quest for food and water during a very dry summer. There are also the problems that arise with tribal hierarchy and leadership. It's a coming of age story with lots of stereotypical Native American assumptions. The story was a bit bland for me and I would have preferred fewer main characters.

Cheyenne Summer by Vella Munn is now available from Beyond the Page Publishing. An egalley of this book was made available by the publisher in exchange for a honest review.
