Flora Banks may not be able to remember anything past the age of 10 (albeit one remarkable kiss), but you won't forget her right away. Barr does a fantastic job painting an image of a teen girl, who is constantly scared (but needs to "be brave" as her arm reminds her) and vulnerable, and every few hours goes through an awakening after having forgotten everything from the immediate past. At first I was concerned the repetition of Flora relearning her situation, people, or surroundings would get tired and annoying, but it's done well enough (and even at surprising enough moments!) that it really works.

You want to cry for Flora's situation by the end because everything she has had to live through, and not even remember, can be pretty upsetting. But the adventures and stories she writes for herself turn her into a strong character with supportive friends willing to repeat themselves every few hours.

It's also quite funny and as I said above, surprising at times. Just when you think the story is getting somewhere, BAM, Flora forgets everything, turns around and begins again. You learn to have patience for the story to unfold in it's own time, and the payoff is pretty sweet.
