Thank you Entangled Pub for another great read! I really enjoyed reading about Ryder and Zoey's second chance romance. Everything happens for a reason, and fate has a way of stepping in to make things happen. I love that Zoey was no-nonsense and career driven. I love even more that Ryder went from casual fling to love-struck. I would have liked to have their "reconciliation" conversation go a little deeper into Jason's accident and why Ryder left because it seemed a little light on the page, and I think going a little further into that argument would have taken it to the next level, but I really enjoyed their banter and dynamic. Will have to check out the others in this series!

A one night stand is okay, but for Zoey her one night has haunted her. He left without a word and she’s not really gotten over it. Working with his brother doesn’t make it easy but she’s survived in her interior design job. Now she’s on a project that can make or break her and she’s being forced to work with someone she doesn’t want to.

Ryder is a pro snowboarder and he’s injured. What better way to pass the time then help is brother ? What he doesn’t expect is to rescue a woman stuck and be knocked on his butt when he finds out who she is.

He’s used to no relationships thanks to his career but Zoey was different maybe things can be different? Meddling grandparents, spiders, fires, explosive chemistry, and life goals are never easy especially with a new relationship. Can they survive ?

It is wonderful to know your talent awards you with repeat business. It isn’t wonderful to find out that repeat business is with the brother of the person you slept who walked away. Talk about conflict of interest. Zoey can explain it better since this happened to her in The Rule Maker by Jennifer Blackwood. Zoey is a designer working for a top firm and takes pride in everything she does except when it comes to Ryder Covington. The sexy man that she just want to take a bite out of but knows it won’t end well.

When Ryder’s brother Jason hires Zoey to help renovate a resort putting Ryder in charge to work with Zoey, she can feel trouble is just around the corner. Yes, she puts up her defense mechanisms hoping to keep her attraction for Ryder at bay, but the more they work together her resistance is sure to fail. Ryder is all for working on the resort project with Zoey because it gives him the chance to be near her. He can’t stop thinking about all the things he would like to do to her but tries to play it cool.

The Rule Maker is an entertaining read with well-developed characters that complement the storyline. The back and forth between Zoey and Ryder drove me crazy and at the same time had me cracking up. From their first interaction, I couldn’t help root for them to be together. The author does a wonderful job with descriptions through this book, which helped me visualize the resort and the atmosphere surrounding why Jason had to buy it. I really enjoyed Blackwood’s writing style and will read more of her work, especially the rest of the books in this series. I recommend The Rule Maker to readers of contemporary romance or chick lit.

I love second chance romances and this was so much fun! Zoey Reynolds is a talented and ambitious designer. She has been given a huge opportunity by her boss to redesign a big clients new property and she doesn't want to let him down. Unfortunately the clients brother, Ryder, is in charge of the remodel. Ryder Covington doesn't do relationships at all. He and Zoey had one night of passion a few months ago and he broke her heart. Now he is at a cross-roads in his life and the sexy and sassy Zoey is changing his views on everything. But Zoey has her rules that not only protect her job but her heart as well. Ryder has changed and is determined to break down her walls and prove to her that he is worth another shot. He has his work cut out for him because Zoey, no matter how much chemistry they have, is not willing to lose her job for someone who will leave her again. I thought Ryder was so charming, loyal and sweet. Zoey is strong but vulnerable, quirky, funny and clumsy! They challenged each other making a great team on and off the job. I loved their witty banter, their playfulness and their chemistry was explosive. There were so many laugh out loud moments, along with some very touching, heartwarming and passionate moments as well. I really enjoyed this second book in the Rule Breakers series and am looking forward to more!

The Rule Maker is just a fun read!! One of those books you pick up after a long week & can lose yourself in for a couple of hours. The Rule Maker is the 2nd in the Rule Breakers series but can be read as a stand alone.

I love the writing style of Jennifer Blackwood- she brings her characters to loife in such an entertaining & real way.

Can't wait to read more by this author.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Zoey loved cars for the sole reason it had become her command station, her Batmobile that could answer emails, texts, and memos at voice command. Zoey is an interior decorator. Zoey was choking on a Reeses peanut butter cup and finally slammed against her steering wheel and dislodged the candy. There was an email from Jason Covington. Zoey had slept with her client’s brother Ryder and she cursed that night. Zoey remembers how he snuck out during the night without an explanation and then never called her. Ryder was a professional snowboarder and was home while he recuperated from a broken leg. Ryder had a rule never to date or sleep with anyone more than once. Zoey pulled up to the one of many ski resorts on Mt. Rainier. Zoey was to do the renovations on this resort and it had been left in the seventies. Nothing made Zoey happier then having her mind busy with plans for a new project. All she had to do was create mock-ups that would blow Jason Covington’s mind. Then Zoey got stuck in the window but knew Jason had one of his men coming up. Zoey then heard a voice she couldn’t forget and sure enough it was Ryder. Then man she had slept with. Jason- Ryder’s brother had been paralyzed from the waist down and wasn’t doing too well since the accident and now Ryder was her client and she had to work with him through the whole project. Normally it would have been Jason as he was the head of the family’s real estate company. Zoey tries to get out of the project but ryder said Jason wouldn’t be happy. Zoey had taken the second job from Jason as she knew it was good for her company as well as her career. Then a sudden snow storm occurs and Ryder and Zoey are stuck at the resort for the night. First thing the next morning Zoey leaves. Both Ryder and Zoey are leery of each other but both for different reasons. Zoey fought her feelings for Ryder.
I liked this story a lot. It made me laugh out loud and that doesn’t happen very often at least not from a book. This is a fun romance that gave Ryder and Zoey a second chance with each other. But Zoey and Ryder made each other crazy as they tried to fight the attraction. But I will say that this story kept my attention from the very beginning to the very end. I love how Jason and Ryder are with each other. But this story was a little predictable. At first I really didn’t like Ryder for the way he treated Zoey but as time went on my opinion changed of him. But Ryder was also worried about his future after the broken leg. This dragged a bit at times but I still really enjoyed the story. I loved the plot, characters and the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

This is the first I have read by Jennifer Blackwood and boy I am so loving her Rule Breaker series. This is the second and so getting the first one in this series but can be read as a stand-alone in my opinion. The attraction Zoey and Ryder is hot right from the beginning till the end. I love that no matter how much Zoey denies the love that is blooming Jennifer Blackwood has no mercy and puts it all ou on the line. Jennifer Blackwood totally pulled me into her books and an author worth keeping up with for she has romance, comedy, sexy make you loose control men and passion. Loved it.

The Rule Maker is a hilarious enemy to lovers’ romantic comedy. Zoey Reynolds has a one night stand with Ryder Covington. It ends badly and kudos to never ever seeing him again.

Fast forward, Zoey, an interior designer, lands a sweet contract to renovated a dilapidated ski resort purchased by Jason Covington. Jason is now a recluse and sends his brother Ryder to supervised the project. Ryder, a professional snowboarder, is recuperating from an injury and has agreed to help managed the remodel.

Zoey and Ryder reunion is priceless. It was hysterical and the main reason why I wanted to continue reading. It’s very original and I loved it! I fell in love with their drop dead witty dialogue. It makes the book a must read. It’s filled with laugh-out-loud one line zingers throughout.

In the beginning the reunion is a little angst. Once Ryder and Zoey start working together they begin to accept their mutual attraction and desire for each other. Zoey is afraid Ryder will hurt her again. Because of the dual POV, we have a good account why Ryder ditched Zoey the morning after. It helps to understand the reason so Ryder can earn his swoon-worthy “good guy” badge.

In the end, Zoey’s dream is realized and Ryder finds someone he is willing to fight for at any cost. A joyful good read. I just wanted more sizzle and heat between the characters. A lot of time was spent with anger and denial.

The Rule Maker was the first book for me by author Jennifer Blackwood and I enjoyed it quite a bit. There was some not so great history between the hero and heroine which led to some tension as well as some pretty great banter and while I could appreciate some of the current day references in fashion, it doesn’t speak well for the longevity of this book, but it was a flirty, fun and sexy story especially in the second half.

Zoey Reynolds is a young interior designer and on the cusp of scoring another big job from a client she’s worked with in the past, but when the client’s younger brother and professional snowboarder and a guy that left her bed shortly after an intense night between them has been put in charge of the project she tries to beg off from it, but Ryder won’t hear of it and swears that his older brother Jason Covington would not be happy if she leaves. Zoey must find a way to work with the man that sent her into a tailspin after one night and departing without so much as a goodbye or risk the career she loves so much.

From the minute these two appear on the page together the reader gets the feeling that while them being together again is a bit contentious, the attraction is evident and there is no doubt whatever the author has in store for them will be a wild ride. The first part of this book moved at a snail’s pace and I’ll be honest I didn’t think a whole lot of Ryder; he was too cocky, overconfident and actually kind of an a$$hole towards Zoey. I hated that Zoey let on too easily that she was still attracted to Ryder and in my opinion he took advantage of it and it bordered on harassment which isn’t cool under any circumstances.

I enjoyed the interactions between Ryder and his brother, Jason and would have like to see them have a heart to heart talk about Jason’s accident, the aftermath, and where they are in their lives and what their plans are for the future. The scenes with their grandparents were strange and awkward and the whole situation that caused the issue between Zoey and Ryder was left with an unfinished feeling. In fact I kind of felt like the ending on this book was rushed, that some of the beginning should have been cut in order to flush out the ending a bit better.

I liked the easy, breezy writing style of this author and while I thought she captured the essence of the age of these characters with their dialog and attitudes, the responsibilities and where they were in the careers seemed like that of people at least 5 or more years older, although Ryder’s rash career decision was very typical for someone his age.

In short, author Jennifer Blackwood shows great promise in her writing and her work is fun and enjoyable, but needs a bit more polish to really make it shine.

Ryder and Zoe have a history, one that she can not repeat. It would break her number one rule. Don't sleep with your client. Well this book is about how she fights and ultimately breaks her number one rule. It is about how Ryder a man, who never commits only lives to Ride the snowy mountain. A man who's number one rule, is to never be with one woman twice, not only breaks that rule but falls in love with her making the ultimate commitment.
Funny, sexy and passionate this book is a read that will pull you in and keep you there till the very end and the HEA you craved.

Okay, I knock the New Adult genre because I just can’t read about all the angst. It depresses me. My 20’s were fabulous and fun, so I want the books that I read to reflect that. Low and beyond, Entangled Publishing has a line that I know I can read and feel good after I’ve read one of their books. Sure, I’m sure that some of the books are angst filled but the ones from Ms. Blackwood and Ms. Yarros have made me swoon, sigh, laugh, cry and break my heart but in the end, they are books about people in their 20’s that are dealing with jobs, lovers, friends and finding themselves without their parents breathing down their necks. Without the drugs, abuse, drinking, rock stars, etc.

I admit that I bought and read Lainey’s and Brogan’s book. The writing, the laugh out loud moments, the characters and above the plot is realistic, sexy and romantic. The same goes for Flash and Ryder. Their book is just as good, if not a bit better but I do have some concerns. Little ones but things that just nagged me in the end.

Jason and Ryder’s grandparents – Please for the love of God tell that they will get their due if we get a book about Jason. They way they treated both of their grandson’s and eventually their mother…What a *itch! I don’t have anything nice to say about them at all. Especially with Jason. Grr…
I would have liked to actually have read about the engagement of Lainey and Brogan. We only see glimpses. On the other hand, I loved that they were in the story. I missed them. Lainey is just laugh out loud funny. Especially in the last scene with Ryder and Flash.
I wish Jitters was better behaved. LOL! Seriously. What did a man every do to that cat?
Ryder and Flash were just perfect together. The banter, the true friendship that developed between them and the lengths that both of them went to for one another. If you are wondering why I keep referring to Zoey as Flash; read the excerpt. That excerpt is a great example of their relationship and Ms. Blackwood’s writing. It flows, it’s funny and snarky but in the end, she just nails the romance, but more importantly what a 24 and 25 realizes what’s more important…and that’s the love of another person. *swoon*

Run, don’t walk to read this series. Hell, pick up the other books in the Embrace line. You won’t be disappointed.

And you’re welcome.

QueenZany 4 Star Review
THE RULE MAKER
Jennifer Blackwood

Sweet Baby Jesus!
THE RULE MAKER was so entertaining and over the top witty! This second chance romance had me laughing, grinning and blushing all at the same time. I just couldn’t get enough. The one liners were simply hysterical and snarky as heck. Almost as though Jennifer Blackwood crawled into my mind and tapped into my inner dialogue.

Ryder and Zoey had this spark. You know the kind. The kind that won’t leave you alone. Which only causes drama. When these two try and deny it.
But in the end. The pull, the heat, the electricity becomes combustible. Explosive to a point! So hot that it could cause steam to occur! Will these two finally get their act together? You will have to read to find out!

Have you ever read a book where it just works. Where everything clicks? Where all the words on the page fall together in just the right order? Where you get to the end, and you're surprised that you're there already whilst at the same time disappointed that it is all over?

This is that book for me. I would happily read it again. And again. And ... well, you get the drift!

This book left me ugh some mixed feelings. Although it was funny at times and I absolutely LOVED Ryder... Zoey and the grandparent just really got in my nerves at times. Zoey just had too much inner dialogue (mostly freakouts - which lets face it, I have enough in my own life, I have a hard time with that much coming from a book I'm trying to escape in).

Ryder though was my perfect book boyfriend. Sure he may have been a jerk before - but he had good reasons. And he's drop dead gorgeous, sarcastic, loyal to a fault to those that count and knew he screwed up and took responsibility for his mistakes.

Don't get me wrong - it was a good story line over and except for a few over long Zoey freak outs, it moved along well. But it was one of those books that I was ok with taking a break and walking away for a few hours before picking it back up. Zoey had her moments where she was great with Ryder but she just wasn't a favorite of mine altogether.

Would I recommend the book - sure because really this is just my own pet peeve. It's just all an opinion. Ryder makes it worth the read and I really hope his brother Jason gets a future book. 3.5 Stars

This was another wonderful read by Jennifer Blackwood. Her ability to write stories that I don't want to put down is something I am certainly coming to look forward to.

In this story I got to know more about Zoey, from the previous book in this series The Rule Book, and I met Ryder. These two have history in the form of a one night stand after which he left her without saying goodbye. Zoey took this experience, along with previous mishaps with men and decided to take a break from them and focus on her career. However they run into each other again unexpectedly when Zoey is assigned to work on a project and Ryder and his family become the client. Despite the attraction still there, she vows to be professional. But everyday the two work together becomes harder to resist each other. However Ryder has already shown his habit of disappearing, and Zoey isn't sure if she is willing to risk her heart again.

From the beginning I really enjoyed these two characters. Ryder with his great sense of humor. Zoey with all her rules and quirks. The interesting dynamics with family and friends. And of course Jitters the cat. It all made for a great story. I enjoyed it from beginning to end and can't wait to see what comes next. These are characters I am officially invested in and look forward to visiting with them again.
