This book was yet another continuation of a series that, by all accounts, should be put into a single title. These Bookshots by James Patterson are "meant to be read in one sitting," but the truth is, they're not. They're designed to start you off, leave you on a cliffhanger, and pour more money into a serialized novel.

I digress.

This story cannot be read without reading the prior one. I realized immediately that the novella was going to be a continuation of the McCullagh Inn series, and I wasn't going to get any backstory. Because the author couldn't be bothered to give me a heads-up as to who was who, I decided I didn't really care. (Harsh? Maybe. But as a new reader to these Bookshots, I hadn't any idea they were simply a novel broken into many disjointed parts. I thought they were all novellas about different characters within the world of this small town.)

This story had a lot, and I mean a LOT, of sex. As I wasn't given any real frame of reference for the characters and their relationship, I found it to be too much and too fast. There wasn't any sexual tension, the chemistry fell flat, and the dialogue was boring, as I had no investment in these two.

1 star.
