Wonder Woman: Her Greatest Battles is a comprised of different stories of Wonder Woman from different eras. Each different story has a different villain, from Cheetah to Ares. Each storyline served the purpose of showing what Wonder Woman is capable of. From her speed and strength to her ability to believe in the good of there people. When most people think of Wonder Woman, they either think of her as a feminist icon and annoying, or as a power woman who is equal to both Batman and Superman. All of the storylines chosen show that she is a strong woman, who also embraces her emotions whilst kicking ass. The storyline that I felt best demonstrated Wonder Woman and what she represents to me was when she was facing Cheetah. She shows both her strength and power, but she showed her belief that no matter how far gone you may be, that their is always hope for redemption. The art style varied between each of the stories, as different eras of comic books had a preference to different styles of art. My least favourite of the lot was the first one, when Wonder Woman was facing Ares. Out of the lots, it was also the oldest story; maybe I just am not the greatest fan of the older style of comic book art. A good comic book to set you up for the Wonder Woman movie coming out in June 2017 as it shows the highlights of what Wonder Woman is capable of. |

The best of the best of one of the greatest characters at comic book world. Impossible that this didn't work. |

This volume collects stories from Simone, Rucka, and Azzarello, more modern readers are given well crafted stories that they are the most familiar with, while being exposed to stories that older readers will more likely be familiar with by people like the always incredible George Perez. The book gives readers a chance to see why the character of Wonder Woman has survived for 75 years. |

Excellent reboot of the Wonder Woman story. Great artwork as well. |
This book is similar (exact same concept) to the Superman vs Batman Their Greatest Battles title which came out this last year in connection to the release of Batman v Superman. In this one they include a decent selection of battles from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and now. Sad we didn't get anything earlier but its a pretty good selection from well written and drawn comics that really shows the differences in style between the decades. Alas there is none of the controversial Wonder Woman looks here, its essentially all classic Wonder Woman with the exception of the modern silver lining on her outfit instead of the gold. The concept is good with a lot of good fights included in all their gory glory. Some might be confused as these are the fights vs the entire story, so the emotional impact is missing. But they are very good fights and you get to see the core of Wonder Woman in action and that is great (especially with all the mythological villainy she faces, it can be a lot of fun and is here). So if you want to just see some great Wonder Woman action by various storytellers through the decades, this is for you. If you want a deep Wonder Woman story or collection to share why she is truly great to your kids or find out yourself, then this is probably something you should pass on (unless you just want to see some good action and a taste then go ahead and get it). |
I have just recently started reading Wonder Woman comics. I really enjoyed reading about her greatest battles. It was interesting to see/read about her battle with Superman. I would read more comics in digital format after reading this one. |
Wonder Woman is all kinds of awesome!! Great GN especially for those just delving into the Wonder Woman world! Readers will get a hint of what is to come in the new upcoming Wonder Woman movie and then some. Amazing graphics bring these stories to life, they tell their own story. I loved the preview of Superman and Wonder Woman going toe to toe in Sacrifice. I'm a huge fan of the Superman & Wonder Woman hookup and happen to have almost all the comics that depict their love story journey. I enjoyed catching a glimpse of Power Girl and would like to read more. I wish it had showcased a few of my other favorite battles. |
Oldies and Goldies chosen between the best adventures of Wonder Woman, almost from the beginning. It was nice but nothing special because I'm used the the recent stories where the plot is convoluted and complicated. I' not used to short stories anymore. THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW |
every one of these Wonder Woman stories starts pretty much mid-battle given only the hardcore fans any hope of following the story. So a 'greatest hits' collection for diehards |
Who doesn't like Wonder Woman? Great addition for your comics collections. |
A fantastic mix of Wonder Woman's greatest battles from across the ages. |
This collection of issues shows some of the best battles in the long run of Wonder Woman. This isn’t the best spot for someone who doesn’t know her history or the supporting players to grab as a first read. It is a great sampling of various art and story styles by people who had had very good runs with the comic. This might have been a friendlier volume to the new fan if there was a page or two of a setup recap instead of showing comic after comic of her taking down some great villains and caring for people at the same time. |

The collection focuses on battles that highlight her characteristics and values: hope, the power of the mind, defending the innocent, peace, etc. While this might sound a bit preachy or dull, the issues chosen also have a healthy dose of humor and, of course, LOTS of action. What I liked Action: Simply put the action was great. It really delivers on its title. Humor: There's quite a bit of mid battle philosophizing and internal monologging throughout the book, but it's peppered with great moments. I loved when Colonel Steve Trevor popped up, he pretty much said what the reader was thinking. Flash, Aquaman, and Green Lantern were great in "Justice League Part Three". I want to read the entire Murder of Crows story arc because that one was hysterical. I laughed through that whole section. I have never liked Power Girl but I really enjoyed her here. As Arousing Grammar puts it, "you’re going to witness an incredible fight between two combatants who don’t wear pants." That might sound a bit skeevy, but just Power Girl's costume is infamous. And the "creepy hellion kids" were such a cool idea and wonderfully realized. Hellion Kid 1: "Shocking. What sort of "heroes" fight like thoughtless badgers in the sky for all to see?" Hellion Kid 2: "Most unladylike." Hellion Kid 3: And their outfits! Why, I believe I might have seen something most unsuitable of a child my age! Two somethings even!" Art: I really enjoyed the old school comic style, as well as Jim Lee and Cliff Chiang's issues. I've long been a Jim Lee fan but haven't read any of his DC work. His work remains detailed and gorgeous throughout his issue. What I'm on the fence about Hard to follow the overall arc of the character: This isn't really the fault of the collection, DC has dramatically changed up its universe twice (2011 and 2016). Because stories from the original and revamped storylines end up in Greatest Battles it can make it a bit confusing for readers who don't normally follow DC. "Justice League Part 3" is the second to last story in the collection and none of the main characters know each other. It's an action packed and funny story, but might throw you for a loop when Superman doesn't know Diana, but they were best buds two stories back. What didn't work for me Cover Art: It does speak to elements of the character (strength, Greek, ready for action) but it's a bit brown and boring. DC has a treasure trove of amazing Wonder Woman art and I'm not impressed with what they picked for their cover. Rating: 3.0 This is enjoyable for any Wonder Woman fan, maybe not that great if you're wanting to try out the comics for the first time. (But that's mainly due to the dramatic changes to the DC universe.) I think it does give you a good sense of who Wonder Woman is and what she stands for, but it just seemed like it was missing something. I think this makes a better library checkout than purchase. I'm definitely going to recommend it to my upper school library. The mix of action, humor, and great at will make this a hit. |
This is a great collection of Wonder Woman's greatest battles, and it lives up to its title. I would recommend this for those who want to round out their Wonder Woman collection, as well as to those new to the Amazon princess. |
This is a fantastic collection. Honestly, I knew little about Wonder Woman before. But this collection made a fan of me. |
