For those who are not familiar with Buzz Books, they include an excerpt of some of the promising upcoming books scheduled to be published in spring / Summer 2017. The categories include Fiction, Non-Fiction and Debut Fiction. I’ve already added some of these to my list, and some I had read before reading Buzz Books 2017: Spring / Summer.

The ones I’m most excited to read (and didn’t already have or read) include:

Memory’s Last Breath by Gerda Saunders – a true-life Still Alice “unsparing beautifully written

In the Shadow of Alabama by Judy Reene Singer – a woman returns home for her father’s funeral and finds herself drawn into his life history

The Original Ginny Moon: A Novel by Benjamin Ludwig – a 14-year-old teenage girl has just found her “forever home” but still wants, waits for her abusive, drug-addicted mother to kidnap her (sounds a little reminiscent of My Name is Leon)

Goodbye Vitamin: A Novel - Rachel Khong - a daughter returns home to care for her father who has Alzheimer’s, told with insight, humour and tenderness

Others I’m contemplating:

American War: A Novel – Omar El Akkad - a debut novel about a second American Civil War

The Marsh King’s Daughter by Karen Dionne – a fictional story about a prisoner who escapes, and the daughter he went to prison for keeping captive.

Driving Miss Norma: One Family’s Journey Saying “YES” to Living – Tim Bauerschmidt, Ramie Liddle

He Said, She Said - Erin Kelly

The Answers - Catherine Lacey

Touch - Courtney Maum

As always, the Buzz Book gives a great look ahead to what's coming up in Spring and Summer 2017. There is an extensive list at the beginning of the book of anticipated books with their expected publication date, arranged by fiction and non-fiction to help narrow down your search. If the entry has an asterisk next to it, you can find a sample of the book in Buzz Books 2017. Buzz Books highlights both established authors and debut. I was delighted to see a sample of Graeme Simsion's new novel, I'm really looking forward to that one after loving The Rosie Project.

This is such a handy reference to have in hand. It starts off with lists of upcoming books then gives excerpts of new books you may want to consider. The excerpts aren't too long; they don't give away anything but they're enough for you to decide if you like the author's writing style and if the plot or subject sounds interesting to you.
I'll continue to ask for these publications as they come out over the year.

This is a compendium of samples and not a book for review.

I can't stress the importance that this publication has on my blog. It is an invaluable resource as I plan future reviews and posts. Count this as another solid addition to the BuzzBooks collection!

Buzz Books is always a great way to preview books are that soon to hit the shelves and make a list of your possible "must-reads." I've got my list ready and will be watching for at least a dozen of titles set to be released this spring and summer.

It's always a delight to poke around in a new Buzz Books sampler.

As if the excerpts themselves aren't reason enough to read these samplers, the full lists of forthcoming titles in the front are terrific. It's brilliant to be able to view the promising bounty of the literary season in a single list like this. Many of the listed items are things that were already on my radar screen, but there are always a few surprises that I didn't know were coming: a posthumous F. Scott Fitzgerald collection; new fiction from Maile Meloy!

Among the excerpts, I'm always most interested to read the debut fiction. Lots of intriguing excerpts, but the ones that I most enjoyed were Alexandra Fuller's QUIET UNTIL THE THAW and Omar El Akaad's AMERICAN WAR.

Among the other pieces, I was glad to find Richard Ford's memoir, BETWEEN THEM. He's one of my favorite fiction writers, and it was a treat to read this very personal story of his parents. I look forward to reading the full book very much.

Don Winslow's THE FORCE and Roxane Gay's HUNGER also caught my eye.

I could go on and on, but I'll call it quits there. So much good stuff.

This is an extremely useful list. I'm not usually a reader of non-fiction because I never know what to read but the extensive list of non-fiction titles on this list looks really interesting. I can't wait to get reading!

Buzz Books are perfect for sampling a chapter or two from a variety of authors' books so you can decide whether to earmark them for future reading. My literary picks:

Fiction: The Marsh King's Daughter (a true crime vibe), Soleri (fantasy), The Women in the Castle (WWII), Ten Dead Comedians (Agatha Christie remake; this was promising, with some hilarious lines)

Debut Fiction: The Half-Drowned King (Norse fantasy); Final Girls (crime fiction); If the Creek Don't Rise (Appalachian life). I almost didn't include the last because it was so depressing, but it was really powerful and I can't stop thinking about it.

Nonfiction: In Vino Duplicitas: The Rise and Fall of a Wine Forger Extraordinaire (self-explanatory); Radium Girls (WWI factory expose)

Blurbs can make a book sound great - or not to your taste at all. It's the first chapters that give you a true sense of whether you're going to love a book. Which is the beauty of Buzz Books. Nora Roberts not your style (mine either)? Skip her and move on to the next author. Quite a few offerings in this edition weren't to my taste, but I still found plenty, some completely unexpected, and it didn't cost me a penny. Can't complain about that.

These Buzz Books are really great. I love being able to "dip my toe" into a book that I may not normally pick up. I've never read Nora Roberts, but I'm intrigued now. I've also been interested in Roxane Gay's work.

Great sampler with some of the titles I look forward to the most this season. I enjoyed almost all the excerpts I read, and it gives you an idea about what to expect for the next publication cycle.

I cherish the Buzz Books, whether by season, and now monthly! They always provide an enormous amount of information about upcoming books, including authors we know and love, plus fabulous debut authors to discover. The excerpts provided are a perfect appetizer to whet our palates for the upcoming feast. Makes my mouth water just thinking about all that's on the menu!

I had never heard of or had read any of the Buzz Books before but was intrigued by the link on the main page of NetGalley and so took a look. I read the young adult one and proceeded to get this one too. I continued to enjoy the formatting and the books on display. One of the best things about being a blogger and a reader are all of the recommendations I receive from sources like NetGalley and Buzz Books. I loved that this installment has offerings of established authors, debut authors, and non-fiction writers. Will continue to read Buzz Books titles in the future.

This is perfect for the reader who has more on their to be read pile than they should. Just enough to give you a taste of the book which you can then ask for more or let it go to another reader. The only problem is that you will want them all.
