So honestly, my first thought was - why did the author choose to give a new tooth ache to a bird when he had all these other animals with actual teeth in the story? I did a little research, though, and there is a type of bowerbird called the tooth-billed catbird which looks like it has little teeth on the tip of its beak (thus the name). So I’ll give the author the benefit of the doubt and believe that the book was inspired by this type of bowerbird. More likely, the author just likes bowerbirds and wrote the book to help kids with back teeth coming in (because few little ones have front teeth coming in at an age where they can fully grasp a book for anything beyond fun colors and sounds). The illustration style reminded me a little of Chris Raschka. It relies a lot on impressions of objects rather than looking life-like. Not my personal favorite style, but it does get points for being different. The story is told in rhyme which was mostly well done. I can see kids who like silly stories and a variety of animals in their books enjoying this one. It also introduces young readers to a bird most of them will likely have never encountered before. Waffling on whether to add it to the elementary collection at our school. I don’t think we’ll be hunting it down, but if we see it in our local bookstore for a good price, we may snatch it up.

Bill Bowerbird has a terrible beak ache, it is making him very unhappy and he has gathered his friends in hopes that they can help him and each friend has something different to offer, but sadly none of it helps the beak ache. The suddenly Bill finds out the cause of his beak ache... he has a new tooth coming in! The story is ok but not great and I wasn't a massive fan of the illustrations- 2 stars from me for this one.

This book was so fun to read, the artwork was stunning and the rhyming was very well done.

Bill Bowerbird is a bird with a terrible beak-ache who needs the help of friends to alleviate the ache. Overall feelings from this book: great moral-wasted educational opportunities.

Bill Bowerbird has a terrible beak ache. He wants relief so he asks his friends if they have anything to help him. Each friend has something to offer, but it doesn't help the beak ache. Along the way, Bill gathers many colourful items to add to his nest. Eventually, Bill realizes that he has a beak ache because he is getting a tooth. Once the tooth comes in, the pain goes away. This illustrations are colourful, but look very amateurish, like a child did them. The story is told in rhyme which children seem to like. I thought this book was okay, but it did not grab my attention.

The story was sweet, but the illustrations were a bit odd. These children's books are always part story part illustrations, and their ratings depend heavily on both. Whilst I realize this is a children's book, I thought the illustrations were a bit strange.

I liked this book way more than I was expecting. Bill has a beak ache. He goes to his friends for advice but none of it works. The artwork in this book was amazing. At first I didn’t like the water color blob bird, but as you add the other animals, the blob becomes amazing, like the owl and the zebra.
