Whatever You Need is a sweet romance. Wyatt is an electrician by day and an aspiring comic book writer by night. He's been crushing on his neighbor, Kayla, since she moved in. She even figures heavily in his comic as the heroine, the Mysterious Ms. M. But, he's so shy that he ends up blushing and mumbling whenever he has brief conversations with her. Kayla is a single, widowed mother of an adorable little boy, Brady, whom Wyatt ends up bonding with over their love of superheroes. She's got a lot on her plate what with being a single mother and student of a dental hygienist program. She's also had her heart torn into shreds by her now deceased husband, so she's not in the mindset to be starting a relationship, even with a hot, sweet guy like Wyatt. However, after a fire in her apartment, Wyatt takes charge and becomes a hero for getting everyone out of the building and directing the fire department to the correct apartment. As his construction company completes the work on her apartment needed after the fire, he and Kayla become close, especially once she notices how he and her son have bonded. And the fact that he's seriously sexy hasn't escaped her notice either. Still, the damage done to her by dead husband have really done a number on her, and Wyatt has a lot of work to do to convince her that they belong together. If you like your romances with lots of heat and really alpha heroes, then Whatever You Need is not for you. However, if you like slow burn (really slow burn) romances with sweet, swoony guys who know how to treat women (and kids) then I suggest you read Whatever You Need. It's got a cast of great characters, the writing is spot on, and it's sweet and loving. |
Wyatt Haney wants nothing more than to settle down and start a family. Unfortunately, Wyatt is an extremely shy introvert, who can barely say hello to a stranger, much less ask a woman out on a date. Kayla Malone is hopefully finally getting her life on track. The young widow and mother recently moved to Minnesota to attend school. When a fire breaks out in Kayla's apartment, Wyatt's construction company wins the bid for the repairs. Wyatt force’s himself to talk to his pretty neighbor and even works up the courage to ask her out. Kayla isn't ready to date though and she crushes Wyatt's hopes. Fortunately, Wyatt doesn't give up and he sets out to be the best male friend Kayla had in hopes she will want more. Wyatt is one of those characters that you enjoy reading about from the moment he is introduced. He is smart, sexy, good with kids, and an all around nice guy. I found myself being extremely protective of him when Kayla put him in the friend zone. Even though Kayla made me mad when she turned Wyatt down, I did understand where she was coming from. Kayla was pressured into marrying at a young age when she got pregnant. Her jerk of a husband made no secret that he was resentful of his situation and ignored his wife and child as much as possible. Kayla felt like she needed to live her life a bit before she started a new relationship with anyone. Kayla and Wyatt actually don't sleep with each other until the book is almost over. For most romances that would be unthinkable. In this book though it works out nicely as Longley is able to ramp up the tension between the two and show how they are taking things slow. Whatever You Need by Barbara Longley is the second book in The Haneys series but it can be read as a standalone. Longley has created an endearing hero in Wyatt, whom readers will love from the first word. The story is realistic and very engrossing. Anyone who loves a contemporary romance would enjoy this book. |
Reviews by the Wicked Reads Review Team Avid Reader – ☆☆☆☆☆ M/F Romance Triggers: Click HERE to see Avid Reader’s review on Goodreads for trigger warnings. This is a super sweet story. Wyatt is painfully shy, but he's also a funny, talented, and creative guy. He writes comic stories and when he first sees his beautiful neighbor, he writes her into the comic immediately. Kayla is a single mom who's raising an amazing kiddo. When she's out at the laundry one weekend, there is a fire and her apartment is kind of ruined by smoke and some fire damage. Wyatt is the hero as he gets everyone out of the building AND puts his family on the job to fix her apartment. While Kayla isn't sure if she's ready for a relationship, Wyatt knows that in order to win her over, he has to take things at her pace – show her that he's there for her without pushing her into something she might not want. This developed slowly, with care and I love that the entire family is involved. While it's a shorter story and I do wish that they had developed the relationship sooner, I did love all of the things that Wyatt and Kayla did for each other. Ruthie – ☆☆☆☆ This is the second in the series, but the first that I have read. It stood up well to being a standalone, but I plan on reading the first when I get a minute. Ms. Longley is a new author to me, but no longer. The story is very sweet and was the perfect read for a quiet evening. I loved that Wyatt was such a sensitive man, but absolutely stepped up to the task. He proved himself to be honest, faithful, and so good. His interactions with Brady are supper cute, and Kayla never stood a chance. Being a party to their growing friendship and blossoming romance is a treat. And once Wyatt overcomes his shyness, he proves that all his learning works very well in practice too! The Haney family features large in the story, and they are a good bunch, so I am looking forward to future installments of their stories. |
Wyatt and Kayla drew me into this book, but Brady stole my heart and the story. Wyatt is a handyman/comic book writer who is very shy thanks to an accident as a child. He has had a crush on the girl upstairs since she moved into the building. But being Wyatt, he doesn't get the courage to talk to her. Until one day there is a fire in her apartment. Luckily no one is injured, but he finally starts to get to know her and her son. Kayla likes Wyatt but isn't sure she is ready to date thanks to her past. But Wyatt will do his best to convince her. 3 1/2 stars! Sweet, well written contemporary romance. I enjoyed the way the author made the main character shy yet heroic. A light hearted and romantic read from start to finish, Totally enjoyable! I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a voluntary and honest review. |
4.5 stars I really enjoyed Whatever You Need. From the first page I was hooked, I loved how both characters were with each other and how their relationship developed. Wyatt was such a sweetheart, he made this book for me. This was a heartwarming and very romantic read. Whatever You Need by Barbara Longley is the second book in The Haneys series, each book can be read as a standalone and I highly recommend them. Even better than the first book,i just loved Wyatt he was so sweet you can't help but adore him and root for him and Kayla,Such a sweet story i loved it and would recommend it to all. |
Whatever you need is a sweet and enjoyable light story. Between shy Wyatt and his neighbor Kayla. After the fire Wyatt gets the chance to finally make a contact with his hot neighbor Kayla. There is some misunderstanding on the Kayla side but although they share a passionate kiss Kayla is not ready to have a relationship. So Wyatt with the help of his family comes with the plan to win her over. Lovely sweet story with interesting characters. Both Kayla and Wyatt are great developed and I think that nobody would run from such great guy like Wyatt is. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly |
I read the first book, and I enjoyed it, even though I did find it a little slow, however I still wanted to know what happens with Wyatt, so I decided to read this one. Again, I find this one slow, I like my romance books, to get to the point a little quicker, others may not agree with me, but to each his own. Anyway, I still like Wyatt, he was a little awkward but enjoyable. Kayla was ok, and you had to love the little boy, However, I dont think I will continue the series. |
Whatever You Need was a cute story and very sweet--the heroine's little boy especially was a show stealer. (He's almost too good, but manages to have a few mini-meltdowns that make him a tad bit more real.) This was the second in the series, but I didn't have any problem at all not having read the first yet. There were a few aspects that stretched credibility a bit thin--the amount of time the heroine's misconception about the hero's relationship status went on for, the virgin who has amazing sex and gives incredible Os the very first time (even with "research" I found it highly unlikely), the rather quick and painless way some pretty big issues were resolved toward the end--but for some light, easy reading with likable characters, you could do a lot worse. Having Wyatt draw comics in his free time was a nice touch, and Kayla putting herself through school with VA benefits made the horrible first husband storyline easier to take. Though this won't make it on to any of my favorite lists, there was enough that was enjoyable here; I'd probably give another book from this author a try. Rating: 3 stars / C+ I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. |
Although a bit sugary-sweet at times, this book had all the feels. With likable characters and an easy momentum, I found it hard to put down. |

This book was a sheer delight! Wyatt Hanney is this beautifully written uber-shy and sexy hero and Kayla Malone is the single mom he has a crush on. This story tugged at my heart and I utterly fell in love with these characters, because they’re just great people, lovable and kind, strong yet insecure and imperfect. And when it comes to children’s characters, Brady, Kayla’s son, is in a class of its own. I loved, loved the hero! He’s an electrician (besides having a creative hobby). His shyness gets better but never goes away and I was really impressed with the character development, showcasing that it was thoughtfully crafted by Barbara Longley. Of course, besides being shy, he’s also tender, solid, dependable, intelligent, witty and so on. Kayla is also a great character, struggling to be independent, making a life for herself and her son, trying to fight her attraction to Wyatt… and lusting after him all the same. BAM! I also liked that, since the moment they acknowledge their feelings, their fears and problems are only related to themselves and their own emotional baggages and not to external factors. The plotline, dialogue, setting and the secondary characters are also great. |

I loved this the premise was interesting and I was hooked from the start of the book. I loved the writing style and the romance in this.book and i will be reading more from this author in the future |
I loved the first book in this series and was happy to read this one which follows the younger Haney brother. This time we meet shy Wyatt and gun-shy Kayla who is recovering from the after- effects of a shot-gun wedding.Kayla now just wants to live happily with her only responsibility being her son while she tries to recoup some of the earlier years she lost trying to be a good wife.Wyatt has been harboring feelings for her ever since the first day he met her, and has channeled these feelings into his comic books.I found Wyatt to be so very adorable and lovable, even while I alternately thought his character was just a tad emasculating and his surmises juvenile.Understandably, circumstances in his past dictated his actions, and I was happy to see him gradually overcome the restrictions he had placed on himself, and learned to love who he was.The dialogue was weak at times, but the story kept flowing and the plot had depth and realism. The other secondary characters were interesting, especially Dennis and Josie,Although the story felt a bit rushed towards the last couple of chapters,I loved the way it all got tied up.Enjoyable free read from Netgalley |
4 - "It took a fire to make it happen." Stars! Whatever you Need, is the second book in The Haney’s series. This is the first book I have read by the author and it can absolutely be read as a standalone. He was six foot two and twenty-five years old, yet he blushed like a little girl over just about everything. Worse, he mostly clammed up or mumbled when anyone he didn’t know spoke to him… It sucked to be him. The blurb was 100% the reason I chose to read this book, I am always looking for a character to be a little different from the standard ones you generally get in your contemporary romances nowadays and Wyatt Haney ticked that box perfectly. Shy Hoodie Guy was adorable from the start to the end of this book, and was the main attraction for me, because I struggled to warm to Kayla and her ‘lead him along until I’m ready’ behavior for most of the book. His mission – and he had chosen to accept it was to wear down her resistance. Don’t get me wrong, I understood her issues, in fact the author went ot great lengths and on many occasions to ensure the reasons for her being gun-shy about relationships were fully covered, so much so that it got a little repetitive in the latter stages, especially when it was all then resolved by one specific outburst. This for part of the story, was a woman raising a child, whilst acting like on herself. "No more avoiding." But for all of the above gripes, I still really liked this book, the Haney family as a whole is a solid unit, Wyatt’s brother Sam has already had his story told in What You Do To Me; the first book (which I have already one-clicked from Amazon too read as soon as I can). Wyatt himself stole this story and made it what it was though, and I thank the author for giving us a dual POV so we were able to get in his head, and see exactly how certain things affected him as the story progressed. "You’re like chocolate which happens to be my kryptonite…" If you are looking for an easy going, predictable, sweet and PG-13 low-drama story then I think Whatever You Need sits proudly in that bracket, yes I had a few issues with Kayla’s characterization, but her son Brady made up for it, and Wyatt stole my heart and the show in general. |
A sweet, emotionally captivating, romance that will steal your heart! A shy and sexy super-hero, a beautiful and strong super-mom, and a adorable super-kid.......what's not to love?!? Wyatt and Kayla have both been through traumatic experiences in their lives, and both are trying to learn how to move past them. It's not easy, but being together helps, even though Kayla is determined to keep their friend status, despite the growing attraction between them. Just when Wyatt thinks that things are heading in the right direction, their building goes up for sale. Wanting to show Kayla how much she truly means to him, he asks his siblings for help. Will he be able to convince Kayla that they were meant to be together? Will they both be able to overcome their own form of shyness to get the HEA that they both truly deserve? You'll have to read this to find out! When I received this arc, I decided to start the series from the beginning, and I am so glad I did! The first book, What You Do To Me, is a sweet, hilarious, heartwarming romance, just like this book was. If you haven't already read it, I suggest that you start from the beginning too. You won't be disappointed! I strongly recommend this book, series, and fantastic author. I have voluntarily reviewed this arc I received from the publisher via NetGalley. |
This is the second book in the series but can definitely be read as a standalone. I haven't read book one but it has been added to my TBR after reading this one. Wyatt was such an amazing character. He's so unique and relatable. He's shy but steps out of his comfort zone when needed and was so sweet and generous. Kayla has been through a ton and came out of that standing on her own two feet and is raising an amazing son. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series and can't wait to go back and read book one! *This is my voluntary review of an advanced reader copy* |

Bam, a must read. Electrician, Superhero comic writer, Wyatt is very shy but when he meets Kayla, a widow with a small boy he know what he wants. Now, he only needs to talk Kayla into more than a friend relationship. Kayla was burned by her first husband and feels like she missed out on life and is afraid of opening her heart again. Loved these characters, very genuine and likeable. Wyatt will accept any relationship but wants more than friends. Kayla wants more but is just afraid. She has a lot on her plate, going to school and raising her son, Brady. Now Wyatt just needs Kayla to open her heart one more time. I read this book through my kindle unlimited. Highly recommend. |
A good well-written romance. I enjoyed it. I liked it so much that I have to find book 1. |

I enjoy reading romance novels and as a consumer, when I decide to recommend a book I look for certain criteria. Many people purchase a book by storyline for that reason I don’t do storyline spoilers. I feel it is unfair to the author to describe the book when writing is their livelihood. When I review a book I consider the author(new or a seasoned pro) and these elements: is the plot carefully thought out and not rushed; are the characters well defined, likable and not one dimensional; has the story held my interest from beginning to end and most importantly is there an HEA. Barbara Longley is a seasoned pro who knows how to write romance. I have read a number of her books and “Whatever You Need” does not disappoint. Her book exceeded all my expectations. Her storyline was beautifully written and her characters well developed, believable and engaging. I loved the slow buildup in Wyatt and Kayla’s budding romance. Their journey toward a forever love was electric. Both these characters struggled with relationship issues. There struggles and how they would overcome them held my interest and kept me invested in the story. I also liked the surprise twists toward the end which I never saw coming! Barbara gives her readers another winner and I highly recommend this book. I received an advance readers copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. It was my pleasure to give my honest opinion about this book. |
