Listened to the audiobook and read it. Characters that make you cringe and smile and love or love to hate. A good weekend read. |

A great summertime read that keeps you guessing Loved getting to know the characters. You will enjoy this novel! |
This is such an fabulous read! All of the characters have emotional depth and are diverse, but yet connect in a highly realistic way. The book makes you feel that you are right there with them. I hated for the book to end for these characters became friends! |
My beginning of summer reading has started out on a good note. Darcy inherited her grandmother's house and now lives on Nantucket. Every summer she gets new neighbors who rent the houses next to her. One of the rentals is occupied by her ex-husband and new family. Another summer neighbor is Susan and her brood, and then there is the elderly Mimi and her grandson Clive. Between her boyfriend Nash, her friend Jordan, and the friends of the library where she works, she spends this summer trying to keep her ex's step-daughter out of trouble and befriending those around her. As she questions her life and decisions, events change her prospective on her life and those around her. Good, light, summer read. |

Darcy is a year round resident of Nantucket. She is surprised to see her ex-husband and his new wife, stepdaughter and son move in next door. The summer residents provide an interesting mix this year as she struggles to deal with her ex and a new love. |

I generally love Nancy Thayer and look forward to reading her books as a rite to summer passage but this one left me wanting. I like a little more "meat on my bones" when it comes to dialogue and unfortunately this one fell flat. Not the worst I have read but not the best either. Pick it up if you have nothing left on your shelf but definitely not a great "beach read for me |
I loved this book and read it in one sitting. It's one of those that you need to take away during the weekend to the beach or on vacation with you. It's about a woman named Darcy and she's living in the house she inherited from her grandmother and is looking forward to meeting some of her summer neighbors. She is more than shocked to find that one of them is her ex-husband, with his new wife and stepdaughter. What begins as a story of new friendships, romances, and life in a new town. Ends with all these situations come to affect the comfortable life Darcy has built over the years and how she grows in the adversity of it. |

Thank you to Net Galley and Random House Ballantine for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This was a light, breezy beach read perfect for curling up on the couch during a rainy day (as when I read it). This book follows one summer during the life of Darcy who is a year round resident of Nantucket. Recently divorced, Darcy is living in the house she inherited from her grandmother and is looking forward to meeting some of her summer neighbors and is shocked to find one of them is her ex-husband, with his new wife and step daughter. What follows is a story of new friendships, romances and how much will all these situations affect the comfortable life Darcy has built for herself. An enjoyable read from start to finish. |
Good read. Not my favorite but still a pretty enjoyable book. |
If you enjoy Nancy Thayer's previous books and/or are looking for the quintessential beach read, then this is for you! |
Could you just imagine sitting on your patio trying to enjoy your time off after a hard day at work and having to hear everyone's dirty little secrets.. Well Darcy the librarian (who I adore) has to listen and keep all the secrets to herself and while the summer is off to a fast start she also meets a host of characters who have all come to Nantucket for the summer. This is a great beach read...take it along on your next summer vacation you wont be disappointed. Enjoy!! My thanks to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. |

A great read. I love the mix of humor and range of emotions. I fell in love with the characters. |
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion. Darcy Cotterill is a year-round resident of Nantucket, living in the house she inherited from her grandmother, working as a librarian, and dating a man who recently moved to the island. Usually, Darcy has little interaction with her summer neighbors during their stays on the island. This year, however, she is dismayed to discover that her ex-husband, his new wife, and step-daughter are staying in the house directly behind hers. Darcy quickly becomes involved in the lives of not just her ex-husband's step-daughter but also the women staying in both of the house next door. We have been having an Indian summer here in October, and this beach read was perfect to accompany the weather. It was a nice, light read even while broaching some heavy topics. I thought it was interesting to see how Darcy and her friends felt it wasn't their place to let people know important things in their lives. If I were in Susan's shoes, for example, I would want to be told! Darcy was a very interesting character; she had a lot of quirks that made her mostly fun but also occasionally exasperating. I recommend this book for when you are looking for something to entertain you without making you need to think. |
A fun summer read set in Nantucket that takes you through Darcy's journey of acceptance, friendships and love. |
Great beach read. It's full of complex people, tangled lives and all set in Nantucket. I enjoyed the characters a lot. Nancy Thayer has done it again, bringing Nantucket and its residents so vividly to life! |

A poignant midlife coming of age novel about a 30 year old children's librarian trying to figure out what she really wants out of life and love. Darcy is a likable character with some delightfully likable friends. A cozy feel good story about celebrating life, love, and friendship. |

Summertime in Nantucket. Nancy Thayer does an awesome job capturing that summer feel, making you feel like you are there in Natucket!! Darcy is a full time resident of Nantucket, her home is an inheritance from her late grandmother. She works as a librarian & is currently involved with her sexy handyman. What more could a woman want? Memorial Day weekend means that seasonal visitors have descended on the island of Nantucket. This year Darcy decides to meet her seasonal neighbors, but the last person Darcy expects to be her neighbor is her ex-husband, Boyz, along with his wife, Autumn, and stepdaughter, Willow. This was such a fantastic, light read!! Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review. |
Nancy Thayer is back with a fun and easy beach read. Secrets in Summer was an enjoyable read for me. Darcy, our main character was relatable and likeable. I enjoyed reading of the new friendships she formed with three different women who are visitors to the island of Nantucket where Darcy lives. As with all of Nancy's books this one is set on Nantucket which I always love reading about. With a romance thrown in this book is the perfect book to accompany you to the beach or pool. |
A lovely story about family, friendship and love. Makes you want to head right to the beach. |
If you're looking for an entertaining and easy read, this is for you. You it very much a Beach Read, and it had an enjoyable storyline. There were times when I couldn't get over how terrible the dialogue was. It was somewhat "fake" because I felt like most people would never have the conversations the characters had. Especially between romantic characters, no one would ever say some of the things they said, and most people definitely would not just give up and leave a fight/discussion right in the middle of working it out. Darcy, the protagonist, got on my nerves a good amount. She was kind of stupid at times, and I didn't agree with her thought process. There were times when I would think she was moving on with her life just to come tumbling back 2 pages later. It was a strange whirlwind of emotions and decisions between characters, but mostly Darcy. I guess this book just wasn't for me. But it was entertaining and helped me get over a cold. *Thank you to Netgalley and Ballantine Books for the ARC, for which I have given an honest and unbiased review* (less) |
