This is Alexa Rileys second full length novel in a series. Unfortunately for this just wasn't the book for me. I don't know whether it didn't help that I didn't read the first book although it shouldn't have mattered as they were separate characters. But for me it just didn't feel like and Alexa Riley book. However this doesn't affect the writing of the book itself as this was good as always by them. DNF unfortunately, may try again at another point. |
I really tried to get into this story, but for some odd reason I couldn't. I'm sad to say that I didn't finish it. Liking a certain book is subjective. |

If you are looking for a very steamy romantic read featuring a patient, determined to get the girl good guy hero who falls for a strong on the outside but broken and just wants to be loved on the inside, capable fellow security detail co-worker that’s set on getting revenge against her evil, criminal father, well, look no farther. You just found it. Paige still hasn’t been able to turn the page of misplaced guilt over not protecting her deceased mother from the murderous hands of her father. She also can’t seem to protect her heart from being stolen and treasured by Ryan Justice (aka nickname Captain America), who has had her in in sights in more ways than one for quite some time. With both of them keeping secrets from one another, it’s inevitable they get revealed causing lots of relationship angst. But for better or worse, Ryan still wants to see things to the bitter end to protect his lady love and help her find peace, even if she claims she needs to handle things all on her own. Though this book had several elements I love in a romantic read, I must admit the writing often came across monotonic. Very little happened up until almost 70%, as well, so it felt overly drawn out. After being intimate around halfway through, the main couple’s graphic, lusty, smexy scenes took center stage until a very brief, but final showdown with the enemy. My suggestion is this book might be for you if you’re looking for a good guy/alpha possessive to the point of stalkerish male who has been biding his time then makes up for it in lots of smexy scenes. But even then he holds back and tries to wait until he knows the heroine’s head and heart are in the right place so she will truly fall in love with him. For this NetGalley reviewer, the story line fit the bill, but the writing style at times fell short of my expectations. Rating: 3.5 stars Title: His Alone, Series: For Her (Book 2), Author: Alexa Riley, Pages: 352, 3/28/17, stand-alone but part of a series, possessive good guy hero who will do anything for his woman, tough but broken heroine who carries guilt and wants revenge, evil father, numerous VERY lusty/steamy scenes after 50%, lusty language, slow paced, felt overly drawn out, HEA, no cheating, no OM/OW drama, no love triangle, monotonic writing at times, virgin heroine, celibate hero, romance safety read. Book 1 - Everything for Her (Miles & Mallory), 12/27/16, Pages: 384 Book 2 - His Alone (Paige & Ryan), 3/28/17, Pages: 352 (This review is based on an advanced reader copy distributed via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased, fair opinion. His Alone is the second full-length installment in Alexa Riley’s “For Her” series. Once again, this book was a sinfully delightful read, with good story development, some suspenseful elements and a hot alpha hero, “reasonably” obsessed with his love interest, Paige, Miles Osborne’s half-sister. Ryan Justice is a flawed, possessive, over-the-top hero, and yet he is very controlled and doesn’t go into stalker mode, at least not openly because his photo wallpapers were creepy! He is a typical Alexa Riley’s alpha hero, and I loved that the authors took the time to develop his relationship with Paige. Paige is a strong, bold and independent heroine. She is nostalgic, though, seeing Mallory and Miles together is bittersweet. Mallory has been her only family for years and it’s hard for Paige to let her go. Her relationship with her brother revolved around their revenge plan, but Miles has done his part, stripping their father of his businesses. Paige is not done yet with her revenge scheme, she still owes her mother justice. There were interesting twists in this story, and some dark elements, although it’s not the main focus of the story. The time has come for Ryan to come clean and express his true feelings for Paige. He has been taking things slow, but the time has come for them to leave their ghosts behind and move on. Ryan is a protector and Paige definitely needs a man like him. This sexy and twisty story was totally addictive and compulsively readable. I couldn’t put it down! And I loved the wonderful, totally satisfying extended epilogues. These authors’ books have now become a guilty pleasure of mine and I can’t wait for more! 4.5 Stars I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley. |
Alexa Riley has mastered hero alpha males in their stories which are a favorite of mine! His Alone does not disappoint with Captain and Paige navigating their love story through the ups and downs of falling in love in hopes of each other forgiving them for their past discretions. What I love most about this book is the multiple epilogues, because so many times romance novels end at the parts where they just find their happily ever afters. There is also a bonus chapter included! If you love alpha heroes with mob boss ties this is a romance novel for you! |

Wow, wow & wow. Alexa Riley knows how to deliver a well written alpha male story. Ryan was the perfect aloha male, he was alpha without coming off as a jerk. Then we have Paige, she was the perfect woman for him, she challenged him every step of the way. There's secrets that will be uncovered but the best part was watching these two come together to make one. Paige was left with feeling like she was apart of something, something that was missing in her life. Of course we get to seeMallory and Mikes again it was wonderful to get a glimpse of them. And the sex scenes have mercy they were hot, hot, hot AF. |
I feel like Alexa Riley has created - and mastered - a romance niche, where an uber-possesive, alpha-male meets and falls instantly in love with an innocent heroine. They have a lot of sex, and he often really wants to make babies before they grab their happily ever after. If this does't sound like your cup of tea, you might not love Ms. Riley or His Alone, but I find her books to be well-written, sexy and a decadent form of escapism. Ryan Justice has been in love with Paige Turner for years, but she doesn’t know it. Actually, she doesn’t know a lot about Ryan, because he has quite a few secrets. They both work private security for her wealthy half-brother, and he’s her boss. Sound confusing? His Alone’s plot is hard to describe in detail without revealing too much, so just go with the flow…. Paige and Ryan share a fierce attraction, and he’s ready to move out of the friend/boss zone. When they do, all of Ryan’s caveman tendencies come out to play, and they are full steam ahead as a couple. Of course, nothing is ever easy. Both have doubts, both have secrets, and Paige has a jerk of a father who could cause big problems. His Alone is not about reality. It is fantasy romance that is delightfully entertaining and wonderfully romantic. |
So here's the deal. I've been looking forward to this I know after reading and loving “Everything For Her” by this author. I was all excited to read and the story started out strong but sadly it fell flat I'm some areas. The book seemed to drag in certain areas. Plus I got a different vibe and feeling while reading this book. Something seemed different and I just couldn't connect with the story as it went on. I liked both Paige and Ryan. Ryan is your typical Alexa Riley over the top alpha male. Paige was sassy and knew how to handle Captain. I enjoyed them as a couple but the side story was a little lackluster for me. Paige wanted revenge against her father and I felt that was wrapped up way too quickly for my liking. There was also another issue with Paige and Ryan that was swept under the rug asap as well. In this book we got to see more of Mallory and Miles which I loved. Even though this book didn't work for me it may work for you. Please don't let my review stop you from reading. As a fan of Alexa Riley I will definitely read another book by this author. |

Great read as I have come to expect from this duo. I loved this story. Ryan and Paige are well written interesting characters. Good storyline. |
Ok, so I guess I like the Alpha male caveman thing? I really thought that it was a fluke that I liked the first book in this series. I mean the man was a total stalker, completely obsessed and a total control freak. But, for some reason it worked for me. And at the end of the book, I mentioned that I thought book two would be better because the hero and heroine would be on more equal ground. Well, let me just say that we've got stalker, obsessed, total control freak part two here because HIS ALONE was cut from the same cloth as the first book in the story but this just worked for me too. I don't know what this writing duo called Alexa Riley have going on but they certainly have some writing mojo. Anyway, this story involves Paige Turner, who is Miles Osborne's --the hero from the first book- younger half sister, and Ryan Justice, who is the head of Miles's security team. They have a love/hate type of relationship that is basically just repressed sexual tension but once Miles and his fiancé, Mallory get together, things come to a head for Ryan and Paige. Unable to deny what they feel any longer they start a relationship. They both want each other but they both have secrets. But, Ryan's hiding a lot more than Paige can even fathom and it may be enough to destroy what they just started. Ryan, Ryan, Ryan. Captain America, indeed. He was so alpha, so controlling, so caveman, but he just worked it. I think I would have succumbed to his machinations just as much as Paige did. Seriously the man was ridiculously irresistible in the book. And at this point, I'm just thinking that this is this author(s) thing: Insta-love and a hot but crazy male lead because HIS ALONE was like that and so was the first. I'm not familiar enough with this writing duo's work to say that for a fact, but hey, it totally works. HIS ALONE is the second book in the For Her series, and it can be read as a standalone, but the first book has a lot of backstory that will make the reading experience of this one a lot fuller. I definitely recommend reading the first book before this one but it's not necessary. I totally devoured this book. Paige and Ryan were on fire right from the start. It was nice to see Paige's vulnerable side since she always puts up a hard as nails persona. I loved the way Ryan was able to break down her walls. I loved the epilogues at the end. I was hoping for more and more glimpses into the future and was sad to see the last one end. They were just a enjoyable as the main story. I'm not sure if this book will be the last in the series or if they will continue on with other characters. But, if they do continue on, I'm there. I love the way these author's pull me in and literally make me care for their characters. I said that I was going to look into the backlist of the authors and I haven't yet, but I need to get on it right away. I definitely recommend this book to those who want an HEA, don't mind their hero being slightly warped, and like a good story. If those qualities suit you, you definitely won't be disappointed! *Advanced Reader's Copy provided by NetGalley and Publisher in exchange for an honest review* |

I loved this one! Yes there is serious insta-love and over the top obsessiveness but somehow it all works and makes for a very entertaining read. This is book 2 in a duet and I would definitely recommend you read book 1 Everything for Her first. This book gives us the story of Paige and Ryan aka Captain America. It also brings to light the history between Paige, Miles, and their father and brings that portion of the story to a conclusion. The stories are very well told with great writing, pace and character development. I would definitely recommend. |
Ryan Justice has been harboring a serious addiction for Paige Turner for some time now, and he wants her all to himself... problem is he is her boss, and that is a line he knows he shouldn't cross... but damn is it tempting to do it anyway. Every moment he spends with her his craving to have her grows, now he just has to find the perfect time to make his move... and hope she feels the same way! Paige Turner loves her job, and her boss, but making a move on the boss is a huge no-no, so she admires him in secret, and lets him stay in her dirty little fantasies. But little by little she learns that her sexy boss, the one she thought followed all the rules, might have another agenda... one that may just give her every little thing she craves... unless her messy past gets in the way! After reading the synopsis for this one I thought I had a good idea of what to expect, but by about the third chapter my initial thoughts were completely shattered... this story was seriously something else! Ryan's obsession with Paige was a little unsettling at times, but with that being said I like my heroes to be alpha to the bone, and I have to say Ryan is about as alpha as they come! He was possessive when the moment called for it, commanding when he needed to be, and had a softer side reserved only for Paige that was touching to witness. This is my first read from Ms. Riley and I have to say she made quite the first impression, her seductive little love story took me by surprise, in the best possible way, and turned me into a fan! Highly recommend you pick this one up, it will take you on one hell of a literary ride... and leave you with a permanent blush!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title. |
***ARC Provided by the Publisher and NetGalley*** I know I am in the minority with this review, and this is my review and the reasons (in no particular order but discussed in the order below)... 1. This is my first Alexa Riley novel 2. I requested the title because it was full-length 3. I am aware I am in the minority 4. I am aware the things I disliked are the hallmarks of this author 5. This is just my opinion 1. I have not read anything by this author previously. Yes, I have heard of her/them. Impossible not to, really. But the blurbs of the titles have not been something that I found interesting, so I have not requested them or read them. I generally shy away from novellas when it is not an author I am already familiar with, and up until this one, all have been shorter...but that is point 2 below. 2. I wanted to see what this author was all about, and the fact that this was a full-length novel and not a shorter novella appealed to me, as one of the things that I saw as a previous drawback was the length of them. Unfortunately, this did not hold up as a novel for me. I thought it was too drawn out, especially the ending, and that, ironically, it would have been better served as a shorter story/novella. The numerous endings, and the flashback made it seem like the authors also were struggling with where to cut off the narrative as well. I get wanting to fully finish a book, to end the narrative...but for me, it went on a lot longer than was necessary. I am not sure if this is something that is common for this author, as this is my first of her books, but it did not appeal to me. 3. I know, everyone else likes this author. I do. And, I would be lying if I didn't admit that was part of the reason I gave this a shot. Sometimes, I am in the minority (like this time) and others I find an author I like who is new to me. While that was not the case in this instance, trying a new author is never a bad thing, even when it doesn't work out. 4. The insta-love element was actually not as present in this one as I have heard it is present in the shorter novellas for the author, so I thought that was interesting. Unfortunately, I found the dialog to be a little difficult to connect with. I know, I do, that this is the point. And, I am aware that this means I did not connect with the intentional writing style of this author. Not every book is for every reader. This was not one that worked for me. Nothing against those who love the author. What I can say is that the dialog and the style were consistent throughout. Credit to the author in this, as it is clearly a writing style choice that is deliberate and executed well, and consistently, throughout the book. 5. I know, I am in the minority with this. I requested the book knowing there was a chance that it was not going to work for me. But, I did so with both an open mind and the intention of giving it a fair chance. I feel that I did and my rating reflects this. I am not able to recommend this book nor will I be reading other works by this author. |
Not bad but not super great. I felt lost for some of it because I didn't read the first one. Ryan was super hot...he can Captin America me anytime. It just solved all the problems quickly with no really hiccups. You were waiting for the bug secrets and it was like really that's it? Lots of sex. Ok read. Received an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley. |
For some reason this book felt a little different than the first in the series and all other AR stories for that matter. It definitely offered the characters a lot more room to develop with it being a full length novel and the pacing was slowed in some ways I haven't seen before from the writing duo. Yes, we still get the obsessed alpha hero with Ryan but it felt somewhat dialed back in intensity. It might sound crazy because this dude WAS really obsessed as evidenced by something uncovered later in the story but until that point, it seemed he was hiding his crazy well. lol I liked that Paige was serious about some things but playful about all things Captain. She loved to rile him up but also knew when to turn it off. She had her beliefs and mission and she stuck to her convictions. She was determined yet vulnerable. I enjoyed getting my full AR fix and the winning formula continues to hit the spot. Safety: AR reads are 100% safe :-p ARC received in exchange for an honest review. |
His Alone is the story of "Captain America" Ryan, and Paige. Paige is Mallory's best friend, and Miles' half sister. I really liked her in Everything for Her. She was a wonderful friend to Mallory, even though it started out as a job. Paige is smart, savvy, and driven. She watched her father kill her mother and she wants revenge. Ryan appears to be an all American good boy (hence the nickname Paige and Mallory give him), but he has secrets too. Ryan and Paige were well developed characters in part because you got to know them in book one. His Alone is their story, but it begins before this book, really. Ryan is a classic AR hero: obsessed, alpha, possessive, and a bit stalker-ish. He has wanted Paige since he first saw her but knew he couldn't have her yet. His plans mirrored Miles' plans with Mallory, so when Miles finally makes Mallory his, Ryan has to figure out how to keep Paige close. He decides that he has to prove he loves her then she will be more accepting of his secrets and won't walk away. Paige is haunted by her mother's death and can't imagine someone as wholesome as Captain would be accepting of her revenge plans. She tries to keep Ryan at a distance because she doesn't want to open her heart to him, only to have him run away when he figures out how vengeful she can be. However, she totally discounts Ryan's love. These two have a lot of push and pull between them, but Ryan never gives up. Because the story is told in dual 1st person, you really get a lot of insight into Paige and why she is the way she is. You can understand her fear, her pain, her loneliness, and its all heartbreaking. It was very rewarding to see Ryan break down her walls! Overall, His Alone is another swoony Alexa Riley book that kept me up WAY past my bedtime. Once I started it, I couldn't put it down and finished it in one sitting. Thats the thing about Alexa Riley books-you can't stop. Really like this author an really liked the book an storyline. Was a easy read which was well written with great characters an easy to get into. Would recommend this book an the author. Thanks for letting me read your book. |
readers who love: steamy and over the top reads, sweet and cheesy stories, lots of insta-love with the guy falling fast, and chapter after chapter of epilogues. Hell yes that is me! I mean come on Alexa Riley...FULL LENGHTH NOVEL... #takemymoney I seriously so happy that I read this book, along with book 1. Both can be read apart, this one was perfect every thing. Characters, Story, Sex, Love, Instafluff, hands down PERFECT! |

Ryan is deep undercover... years, in fact. He stays that way to get the evidence on Paige's dad, but also to watch over Paige. The book makes clear the instalove he feels for Paige, but also that he is more of a guardian for Paige than a romantic interest until she pulls a joke that he takes seriously. The story drags a little in the middle, but it's still a good read. |

Captain America to the rescue! So much more wicked than that man behind the curtain!!! I loved it!! Huge score for the girls in this book. I loved this one so much more than book one. (and I did love book one) This one has the depth of character, the sass of Paige and the sexy cape wearing, crawl all over me Ryan. If you haven't read book one, please read it. Then come back and read this one. This book has the intrigue, and relationship development between Paige and Ryan. We do see Miles and Mallory again from book one. Ryan works for Miles as does now Paige, Miles half sister. Miles is determined to bring his father down and although we don't see that in the book, we know it's transpiring. What we're watching is Ryan's obsession with Paige, Paige's obsession with making her father pay for what happened to her mother, Ryan's overbearing concern for her safety and while he's pretty much hands off through 80% of the book, when that match hits the gas, it's a barn burner. Damn these girls write some hot press and it's not redundant. Makes me wonder what is going on in their minds. Carry on ladies. I don't do spoilers. This one is a must read and bring an adult beverage, fan and change of clothes. Nicely done!! I highly recommend this one. 4.5 Stars **arc from NetGalley and Carina Press in exchange for a fair review** |
