On the edge of your seat read. You will find yourself turning the pages fast to find out what happens. The author does an excellent job with the characters and the plot. Anyone can relate to story and will hate seeing it end. A book you will want to read again. |
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review. |
It's October in Martha's Point, Virginia. Ivy Morris is busy running her combination costume/lingerie shop and enjoying life with her boyfriend, Ben Fallon. Ivy loves a good meal, and she is upset when her favorite chef, Jerry Boucheron, must close his restaurant due to the death of one of his waiters. The waiter, Aaron Sylvan, was found in Jerry's kitchen, burned, though it looked like he was killed elsewhere, and the restaurant fire centered on Aaron's body. Ben, who is a private eye as well as a newspaper advice columnist, is investigating on behalf of Aaron's sister, Heather. However, Heather is acting cagey and disappears. Word is both Aaron and Heather were due to come into a sizeable inheritance. A third brother, Mark, is not due to come into the inheritance. Aaron had both a fiancée and pregnant mistress. Can Ivy and Ben unravel the case? This book was confusing in part. I feel like large chunks of information were left out, and there was too little description of the murder itself or the suspects. Indeed, the murder victim isn't even named until near the end of the story. The solution came out of the blue and was far-fetched to say the least. In addition, one is given to believe that the same murderer was responsible for setting all the past murders Ivy was involved in in motion which was just beyond belief and made it hard for someone who hasn't read the previous books in the series to have any sort of understanding. Parts of the story show promise, like the dialogue, and I guess I did finish the book, but bleh. |
Once again the sexual needs of Ivy overrode the actual story. I read cozy mysteries for the intense investigation scenarios, the secrets and twists and turns. If I wanted to read erotic romance books I would. |

After only a few chapters I had had more than enough of Ivy. Very "uber" in everything she does, says. Silly plot, silly main character in a very lightweight book, most certainly not for me. |

This breezily written light read will appeal to those who want romance and humor served up with their mystery. I admit I tired quickly of the breathy, sassy, overheated main character. I received an ARC via Net Galley in return for an honest review. |
Fun mystery. Protagonist seems rather naïve, but maybe she is simply young and I am not. Misty Simon does make me chuckle along the way to solving the mystery. Some surprises. Sorry I haven't read the previous ones in this series. |
