I have LOVED this series since the first book. This book was no exceptions. It was bit slow in some parts but that is to be expected so we can get some background on characters and issues to be addressed by the characters. Truly can't wait for the next book in this series!

Jess and his friends are now all exiles--and they're trapped in Philadelphia, a Burner stronghold. The Burners are a group that wants to end the Library's stranglehold on the world's knowledge, and they're willing to burn what books they can find rather than submit to Library rule.

The group has the knowledge and plans for a machine that could change the world, and end the library's tyranny, but can they barter that knowledge for their lives?

Ash and Quill is the next installment in the Great Library series, and it lives up to the first two admirably. I do really like this series, it's a dystopia that's different and interesting. The characters are a diverse lot, and they all have strengths and weaknesses that provide for a compelling group of characters. Well worth picking up. If you haven't read the first two, they're a must read.

Oh goodness gracious this series is going to kill me before it's over. If you haven't started these books yet, check out my thoughts on the previous installments, Ink and Bone and Paper and Fire. Here are five things you should know about Ash and Quill.

First thing to know is that this is not a trilogy. That's good and bad, because it means we get more time with these characters! But it also means they have so much more to face. I believe there will be 2 more books to come. At least one more for sure.

Second, I am completely invested in the lives of these characters. Jess, Thomas, Morgan, Khalila, Dario, Glain, Wolfe and Santi begin the story captured by the Burners in Philadelphia. But a group filled with this much brain power and scheming can't be contained for long. As with each book, this one takes the characters to new locations as they face more and more danger. The opposition is closing in on all sides and the stakes are higher than ever. The road these 8 are traveling was never going to be smooth or straight, and sometimes you have to go through the potholes (or a raging fire) to get through it. I love the dynamic between these characters. They each contribute something different to their group that is vital.

Third, Brendan, Jess' twin plays a larger role in this installment. Although I've never been quite sure whether to trust him or not, I enjoyed watching these brothers together. And something I was hoping would happen regarding him finally does in this book!

Fourth, the romance in this story continues to be steady but not the focus. No love triangles anywhere to be found or unnecessary angst either. Wolfe and Santi are as amazing as ever, and Jess and Morgan are still sweet and new, but I loved the growing strength of their bond and the way they work together and communicate. Even Dario and Khalila have their moments.

Fifth, this story ends on a massive cliffhanger that had me screaming! But also so so excited for the next book.

Now I'm just going to go and quietly fall apart as I think about how long I have to wait for the next installment in their story. If you're not reading this series, you should be!

Love Triangle Factor: None
Cliffhanger Scale: HIGH

I have been recommending the first two books to this series often, nad this one will be on my top list as well. The Great Library is facing a crisis, and the class of Wolfe's is at the heart of it. Picking up within hours of where the last book ends, this one just continues to build. Action, love, and asking yourself "is this about me, or a greater purpose ". This book has a timely story line as we all wrestle with today's society. I could not put this book down, and am now counting the days until the next chapter in the story!

Book: Ash and Quill
Author: Rachel Caine
Rating: 5 Out of 5 Stars

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all The Great Library books so far and I must say that this third book is by far my favourite. The world and characters are so much more developed and complex than in the first two books. This book is even more additive and an even more of a page turner than the first two! I was super excited that I was able to pull off another ARC in this truly amazing series!

The characters are so much more better developed than in the first two books. I am actually staring to enjoy Jess's character a lot more. He doesn't seem as whinny and immature as he did in the first two books. He's actually taking charge and is willing to do what is needed to save the world. We still have our very diverse cast, which is something that I still love about this series. While we do have a large cast of characters, they are all so well written and developed that is really, really simple to keep everyone straight.

The writing! Well, this is probably Rachel Caine's best written book! I believe I've read fourteen or fifteen of her books and none of them are this well written! The action scenes are just perfection and there is just the right amount of romance mixed in to make it good. The world building is also improving with each book. It was like the words just seemed to come right off the page and pull me into the world.

There is a cliffhanger ending and I figure the fourth book will be out next year. I kind of figured there would be another cliffhanger. I was 90% of the way through the book and there was no ending in sight. So, if you don't like cliffhangers, then this is not the book for you. However, it truly is a rush right up until the ending and you will find yourself reading the last 25% or so in one sitting.

I was hooked from the first page and simply cannot wait until the next book. I know when this comes out this summer (July 11, 2017), fans of The Great Library series will be in for a royal treat. If you can't wait until then, it is on Netgalley and I strongly suggest that you try to get an ARC.

Great installment to The Great Library series. One of the strengths of all the books in the series is the vivid characterization. I not only love Jess, but I adore Thomas and Khalila as well, and feel invested in what happens to all of them. Exciting plotting, too.

So I enjoyed this book, I really did. I enjoyed all the stuff about it that I loved in the first two books. But holy cow, that ending was super confusing! I kinda hope it's polished up or fleshed out in the final copy (I had an ARC, thank you, Netgalley). I love the alt history/future weird setting, I love the focus on the printing press as an inevitability, and the characters are solid and well developed. I just didn't care for the ending...
