Wonderful book that teaches kids about adopting a dog. Beautiful pictures help tell the story of this family adopting this cute little dog. Fun to read about the little dog's Adventures learning about his new family and where they live. Great family read.

This is the story of a designer puppy named BabyDoll who is pampered and spoiled. I guess it's nice to see how the other side lives. I am unsure if the real-life BabyDoll was actually adopted or not, but I don't believe she was because how would she have a birthdate?? I'm an adopt-not-shop kind of person, and the dog in this story definitely sounded like it was shopped. The illustrations are pretty adorable, though, and there is some mention of a charity in BabyDoll's name that provides service dogs to children. I held off on the review for a bit because there were some reviews claiming the author attacked people for negative reviews and although my review is not entirely negative, I did not want to deal with any of that. I am trying to withhold judgment for the most part because I don't know much about these filthy rich people and they do seem to have treated their dog very well (BabyDoll has since crossed the Rainbow Bridge), but there are better puppy adoption stories out there.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

This book was really good - easy to read, a nice story and we loved the images
It is already becoming a firm favourite with my little one!

A tiny dog narrates how he’s afraid of humans because they’re so big. He falls for a cute redhead and happily goes home with her, especially when he finds the shoe closet. What he can’t find, however, is a bathroom. And he gets named BabyDoll, which is fitting, because “I love looking cute!” The artwork feels like it’s out of the 60s, which makes the dog’s thoughts all the more interesting.
Then things turn weird. For one thing, this is a rich famous couple that walks red carpets. When they talked about adopting a baby girl—human, though it doesn’t make it clear—I thought Jolie or Madonna. And at the end there’s a message to help adopt children, which starts with “Thank you for your interest in our foundation.”
Um. . . what foundation? I thought I was reading about a dog. What does that have to do with a foundation? Great idea, so why not write about the joy of adopting a human? But I suppose the story is for kids and only the last page is for adults. Still, jarring enough to take me out of the enjoyment and drop it a point.

This story is horrid! I would give this book minus one star if I could. It sends a message that you have to be cute and pretty to be loved, and that being given expensive gifts is what shows how much you are loved. Anyone want to vomit right now? I do.

A tiny Maltese puppy quivers and shakes around people and other dogs she does not know. One day her life changes forever. Lisa and her husband Don pay her a visit and instantly love is in the air from both parties. The adorable puppy is adopted and given the name BabyDoll because that's just what she is. She is the centre of attention, eating people food, taken on vacations to Paris and even has a line of doggie designer fashion that Don creates and names after her. What a lucky pup! She lives a fairy tale life and is treated as a princess every single day. She gets a lovely surprise at the end of the story and I'm sure with her temperament she will adjust just fine. There's always room in your heart for more love once your own heart has been filled.

The illustrations are expressive and detailed. BabyDoll is such an endearing little character that you fall in love with her immediately. The story teaches the importance of giving a doggie (and other animals) a forever home. It teaches children compassion and how to lovingly foster a new member of the family into the fold. I highly recommend this book.

Illustrations were cute, but the story, tho' it started well, didn't seem to go anywhere....

The illustrations are cute and playful, but the story was just weird and felt disjointed. I like that the book helps support a good cause however.

A very interesting tale indeed, a dream any child would love to have come through while waiting to be adopted. I like how the author used the puppy to get the message across, it’s like catching two birds with one stone. If we knew what was in a real puppy’s thoughts as he lay on the cold hard ground in the shelter just waiting for someone to take them home and love them, which is the same for some little child in that orphanage waiting for a pair of loving arms to embrace them, to feel that warmth of love. A very unique way in drawing attention to a topic. It is a lovely bedtime story, your child would fall asleep knowing how much you love them, the same can be said for the puppy.

This is one of the most bizarre children's books I've ever read. First off the idea of a puppy being treated as a child, to the point of eating at the table, being called babydoll, etc. is not something that I would want to instill into my grandchildren. When I started the book I was hoping that it was going somewhere . . . . .but it didn't. It just ended with the idea that the couple was going to adopt a baby. To say that the dog was going to have a sister was really going too far! We have always loved our pets and they are part of the family but they aren't the same as a human child, they are special in their own animal ways.

I understand that this is a book based on real people but I can't imagine how they are going to market this book. The cover illustration is rather cute but the story is just silly and offers nothing substantial whatsoever.

This is my honest opinion. I am the mother of four grown daughters and five grandchildren, I have read a lot of children's books!

This is a cute story about a puppy from her own point of view. She remembers the day she is found, adopted, and all the wild things that happen. And now it looks like she will be getting a baby sister, but what type so will not know until a further adventure. A fun story that looks like it might be benefiting a the Peace for the children Foundation. If this is the case, it would be great for something like that to be in the beginning

This story follows Babydoll a Maltese puppy and her new family, The Pliners. It's based on the real story surrounding the Pliner family and their newly acquired dog. It shows us how she adapted to her new life and came to trust her new 'parents' and eventually a new member of the family as the series continues on

I read this to my daughter and she loves the illustrations, she even took to repeating the story after me. So it's easy to follow for even a two year old. Are there lessons to be learned? Well, a family comes in all types of ways and to open yourself up to trust, too. Aside from that, it's just kind of a cute read.

Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read & review for free. It by no means influences my review.

In this adorable story, BabyDoll finds her forever home. She is an adorable small dog who is initially afraid of people, but when her human parents find her, she knows it was meant to be. BabyDoll is spoiled rotten and fits right into the family. The story leaves off with an upcoming surprise as Mommy and Daddy announce their upcoming adoption of a baby girl. BabyDoll doesn't know what to expect from a baby sister, but she seems excited anyway.

Reading this story with my little boy was a joy. He enjoyed the pictures, pointing out what the dog was doing and all the things she had. He was pleased with the story and excited to see what the future held for BabyDoll. This is a series he would be happy to explore further.

I love that this book also draws attention to children who are the victims of abuse and neglect. The Donald and Lisa Pliner foundation is definitely worth a look.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed this short adorable heart-warming story of BabyDoll, a maltese puppy who is adopted by a lovely couple, Lisa and Donald. The author has created a wonderful story telling of animal adoption from the dog's point of view.

It is clear to see from quick glance at this story that the author is American and in the fashion/entertainment world.

This is a great book for young children however I couldn’t relate to the way the family treat the dog – its a dog not a human. I have a dog myself who is treated like one of the family but I wouldn’t feed him real ‘human food’. I am sure there are families who do -but I feel there may be more families out there that are trying to get their children to stop feeding the dog scraps of human food and this book would not help with that. Otherwise it’s a great book with cute illustrations.

A cute story and something I feel I can reasonably use in my classroom.

Babydoll is a maltese puppy that is scared to be around people she does not know. When Lisa comes to visit her, she speaks calmly and Babydoll allows her to play with her. Lisa and her husband Donald adopt her making her the happiest puppy ever. She is a "designer dog" that goes everywhere with her well known parents who are famous shoe designers. Her owners take care of her exceptionally well, to the point of what most people would think was spoiling. They took her everywhere with them, fed her human food at the table, and let her help with their jobs. Donald actually began a line of doggie fashions called ‘Friends of BabyDoll Pliner’. This is a cute story that teaches about caring for another living being and being loving and compassionate. At the end of this story, the Pliners find out that they are going to be adopting and that Babydoll is going to get a baby sister. The story will continue in the next book. The illustrations are very well done. The humans have real emotions and Babydoll is as cute as you could imagine.

The book is based on real events, and Babydoll and her owners are real, though Babydoll has passed away. The Pliners have started a foundation called "Peace for the Children" and I can see where this story actually fits into their beliefs. This is a short book, but the illustrations and text will spark discussions about dogs in general and Babydoll specifically. I can see it becoming a favourite with young children.

I enjoyed this vibrantly illustrated children's book about adoption. The story follows BabyDoll, a sweet, small dog who finds her life change when she is adopted by a loving family. I especially enjoyed the parallel of BabyDoll's life and her yet-to-be-revealed adopted "sister".

This first book in the BabyDoll series will surely be enjoyed by younger children, especially those who have the adoption experience in their own lives.

Such a sweet little book. It is about BabyDoll. BabyDoll is an shy little puppy at first, waiting to be adopted. One day a green eyed lady came along and BabyDoll got his new family. He was spoiled to no extent and very very happy with his new loving family. At the end BabyDoll will be getting a new human sister, also from an adoption agency.

This is a great book for kids and adults alike. I personally loved this story myself. I loved that it included animal adoption as well ad human adoption. Great lesson for the kids.
