A second chance SEAL romance with lots of sexy spicy heat. Who can be trusted? Overcoming the past, being able to navigate through family expectations will impact the future for these characters.
Love, Honor, Trust, and more. A great writer, story, and full of suspense.

I wasn't able to read this book in time to give a proper review.

Call to Engage is Tawny Weber’s second installment in the Team Poseidon series, and even though I’m new to Tawny’s books and this series, I had no trouble jumping right into this strong, tight-knit, and loyal group of Navy SEALS and their struggles–both on the job and off. Book two focuses on Elijah and Ava, and what turns out to be a second chance at love for these two exes.
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott is fresh off a hospitalization after their last mission went wrong, where one of their own turned on them and betrayed his team and country. He’s scared on both the outside and inside from that incident, and he decides that he needs a little more time to get his head straight before returning to duty. So he’s off to his family home, but he decides that he’ll stay with his cousin Mack who won’t give him any trouble–or any of the sympathetic glances that he’s gotten in the four years since his son died at four months old of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and then his wife divorced him.
After Ava Monroe experienced the most painful thing that a mother could go through–with her husband on an assignment who knows where with the Navy, she’s moved on as best she could. She’s no longer a socialite controlled by her parents, and she’s now a trainer, massage therapist, and a first degree black belt. Ava uses exercise to hide from the emptiness she thought she left behind, and she’s so sure she’s doing well–about to by in as partner at the gym she’s working at, teaching as many classes as she can, avoiding being set up by her friends. She’s protecting her heart with a strong body and an even more closed off social schedule.
And then Elijah walks into his cousin’s gym–Ava’s gym–and both their ideas of how their life should be are thrown out the window.
Ava and Elijah’s attraction is still there after four years apart, but she’s not looking to jump back into a permanent, serious relationship with him. He’s never been able to get her out of his system, and when she suggests that they have a no strings attach dalliance, he agrees even though he knows it’s a bad idea–especially with his emotional state and the precarious position of his team still being under investigation for the previous treasonous member. When the time calls for Elijah to be recalled to duty for a special op and Ava can be pulled in as well, neither one of them backs down from the chance. While it’s Elijah’s duty so they can flush out the rat, Ava has proved to be a woman of action and now understands why Elijah loves his job and brothers so much–and she can’t bear to be away from him any longer.

I have not always loved Tawny Weber's work so I went into this not expecting much. In the end that turned out to be a good thing as I ended up really enjoying this.
Tawny Weber is a very experienced romance writer and that quality is easy to see here. Technically the writing is exactly what I expect from a romance of this king. The descriptions and world building were adequate. I mostly really liked the plot, I thought it would be very angst but it wasn't at all, it was a good mix of thriller/contemporary romance. There was a good backstory and a beginning, middle and end. The random switches to the POV of secondary characters was annoying and is a pet peeve of mine in romance books but other than that this was pretty sound.
The characters were good. I liked both Ava and Elijah I enjoyed the chemistry between them and they certainly fit together well in the bedroom. But chemistry is not enough, I wanted more romance and more growth in the relationship between them.
This was an entertaining romance that has gotten me interested in Tawny Weber's work again

Tawny Webber should be called Mistress of Seal Authors... another fantastic story which has me every single time.

Call to Engage is the second novel in the Team Poseidon series, and I'm very glad I read the first novel in the series, Call to Honor, because although this novel can be read as a standalone, having met the myriad cast of characters in the previous novel made it much easier to understand the SEAL team and it's members, the botched mission that forms the backdrop to Call to Engage, and the relationships between the characters. At its heart, this is second chance at love story, and I liked it marginally less than its predecessor, and it gets a 4-star rating from this reader.
The two principle characters are Elijah and Ava, who were once married and had a baby boy who died of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). When they met and married Ava was a socialite princess, raised by wealthy parents who totally disapproved of Elijah, a Navy SEAL, thinking him nowhere near good enough for their pampered princess. This couple's marriage was mostly sexual--they generate enough heat to run a power plant, and because of Ava's upbringing, she never really wanted to understand or discuss Elijah's job, his issues, the horrors he faced on a regular basis. She hated the fact that he wasn't home 90% of the time, and when he was home it was mainly about the sex, but losing their son while Elijah was out of the country and couldn't be reached for days ended their marriage and they divorced.
Four years later, Ava has moved on with her life. She still mourns the loss of their son, which she's never fully faced or dealth with, but has rebuilt her life on the physical rather than emotional--she's all about fitness and strength. She's taut, toned, focused and working at a gym owned by a cousin of Elijah's, Mack. She's an instructor in several self-defense disciplines, body building, strength training, yoga, meditation and massage, and she can kick butt and take names. There have been no men in her life since her divorce and that's just the way she wants it--no commitments, no regrets. She happy and content with her life, or so she tells herself, but that's about to change one day when she heads off to give a massage and the body on her table is Elijah's.
Elijah Prescott is a wounded warrior, an elite Navy SEAL in an even more elite unit of 12 such warriors, Team Poseidon. One of his legs had been severely burned when an op went south, and one of his comrades betrayed both the team and his country by turning traitor. He's now experiencing night terrors and flashbacks and although he's been deemed ready to return to his unit, he requests 3 weeks off because although he'd love to get back to the job he lives, he knows that he's not 100% ready. Having no permanent home, he plans to spend that time with his buddy and cousin, Mack, and he's just as surprised to see Ava as she is to see him. His still harbors a deep love for his ex-wife, there's lots of emotional baggage they both carry, having never fully dealt with the loss of their child, and it's not long before these two end up in a just-for-now sexual relationship again. That's all Ava says she wants, but is it really?
In the foreground of this novel is the search for the SEAL turned traitor--is there only one traitor among them, or is an accomplice hiding in plain sight? The primary suspect hasn't been seen since the explosion that wounded Elijah and no one is certain whether he died in the blast or escaped. There's even some suspicion that Elijah may be a mole, but that's about to change. There's lots of action and suspense in the latter half of the novel, sometimes almost too much tactical material, as the team tries to get to the bottom of the mystery, plan a trap for the traitor and try to flush out the accomplice, and all those strategy sessions, in this reader's opinion, detracted a bit from the deeply emotional side of the story.
All in all, this was a very good and deeply moving read, with well-drawn characters and a compelling story line. As I mentioned at the outset, this is a series that should be read in the order written. I'm very much looking forward to reading the next installment in this series.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.

I probably should read the first book, because I get a feeling that a little of book 1 feeds into book 2. However, I’m managing okay. We have the mission with the group, and the group is trying to find out if Ramsay is still alive. We also have Elijah who is dealing with the aftermath. Then his ex-wife is brought into the story. They still have issues they haven’t solved.
Anyway, I struggle with Ava. Seriously struggle. Some of my perspective comes from being a military spouse. True, being a military spouse is never easy. I mean there were sometimes when I didn’t know what was going on with my husband job. It happens. Anyway, she couldn’t hack it. One of my big issues with her was when she was with him, but she wasn't really with him. He was at his duty station while she was still in area where her family was. I wonder what she would have down had he got orders to another location. That is beside the point; she was listening to her family more than her husband, which can cause a lot of contention and resentment. She totally blamed him, and using him as a scapegoat. They honestly need counseling, but she didn't want to deal with the issues at hand, so divorce was the easy answer. They have been divorce for sometime in the story, but I had to get my feelings about Ava out. I didn’t like her, because she didn’t the effort into her marriage. So, they still had these issues when they come together again. I did like Elijah, because he was trying to come to terms with the relationship, but it’s kind of hard when one person stonewalls you.
Through most of the book I struggle, because I didn’t like Ava. A lot of my dislike came from the fact that she didn’t accept Elijah for what he did. Granted he’s a SEAL, but one of the things the military stress is actually family. You need a strong support at home to do the job. Ava didn’t understand that in the beginning. It was until she was asked to help that she finally understood the mission. Overall, Call to Engage wasn’t a bad read. I truly liked Elijah. Ava had to grow on me. However, the ending was worth it, because Ava learned something important. She actually grew a lot in the story. It wouldn’t seem like it, but she did towards the end.

Elijah and Ava never had any trouble communicating between the sheets. It was outside the bedroom where the difficulties began. The pampered, only child of wealthy, controlling parents, Ava was not prepared to be the wife of a Navy SEAL. In truth, she never tried to be, letting her fear and her mother's continual attempts to sabotage her marriage to Elijah rule her. When tragedy struck, instead of turning to her husband in their shared grief, Ava ran - from her pain, from her fear, and from her husband. Four years later, Ava may think she has her life together but until she faces the pain, loss, and fear that ended her marriage, she'll never be whole or completely happy.
Elijah Prescott is one of the good guys, putting his life on the line for his country and his SEAL teammates. He's moved on from the divorce he never wanted but he's never forgotten - or stopped yearning for - the only woman he's ever loved. Recovering from a serious injury in a mission gone wrong, Elijah has been cleared physically to return to duty. But the emotional scars of being betrayed by a friend and teammate who is still on the loose are slower to heal. A three-week leave sends Elijah to his cousin's gym in Napa and, unexpectedly, straight into the arms of his ex-wife. Will this be the second chance they need to right the wrongs of the past and move forward together or clear one another out of their systems for good?
Call to Engage packs sizzle, action, suspense, and a deep emotional punch into a story that kept me invested in these characters and their journey from beginning to end. Weber takes time with both Elijah and Ava, not focusing only on the off-the-charts sizzle between them (though I thoroughly enjoyed the sizzle!) but slowly unveiling the emotional minefields that undermined their marriage. Ava, in particular, has years of issues to confront before she will ever be wholly happy, whether with Elijah or on her own. Weber handles those issues with compassion in some cases, tough love in others, and no easy fixes, grounding her characters in the reality of grief, emotional upheaval, fear, desire, hope, acceptance, and love that many readers have faced and to which we can relate. Add in a traitor on the loose, a team of hard-bodied SEALS, and a life or death race to protect a child and you have another satisfying, heart-grabbing, breath-stealing winner from Tawny Weber.
Though I had no trouble reading this book as a standalone, there are events that occur in book one, Call to Honor, which I believe would have made reading Call to Engage an even richer experience had I read them in order. I'm already looking forward to the next Team Poseidon book, Call to Redemption, scheduled for release on October 31.

The second book in Ms. Weber's Team Poseidon series did not disappoint! This one follows "Rembrandt" (aka Elijah Prescott) as he and the Poseidon team continue to try to find the missing traitor who eluded them in the last book. Elijah's also struggling with his future--is it still in the military? as a part of the Team? or does he have a second chance with his ex, the only woman he ever loved? Does making one of these choices exclude the others?
I loved Ava--she truly is a kick butt heroine! Fingers crossed that we'll see more of her and Elijah in the next book (which is Nic's; whose story I do want to hear--but what about Jared and Andi??? You're killing me here, Ms. Weber...and now I want to know more about Ava's BFF Chloe and her story too, darn you) just as we got a bit more Harper and Diego in this one :)
Call to Engage would work okay as a standalone if needed--the pertinent details that you need to know from the first book are explained--but everything's going to work better all around if you know the whole story. Plus, it'd be impossible to know just a little about these characters and not want to know all--so you might as well put the whole series on your TBR and save yourself the trouble ;)
Rating: 4 stars / B+
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This second book in the Team Poseidon series continues the arc begun in book one. For that reason, I do not believe Call to Engage would stand alone. As always, the romance is balanced well with action in Ms. Weber's books. I compare her books to those of Suzanne Brockmann, Cindy Gerard and Lori Foster. Call to Engage is a second chance at love story, and the hero and heroine are drawn well and it became easy to root for their happily ever after. The over-arcing suspense begun in book one carries through, though it is a bit thin. Pacing is even, and dialogue seems appropriate to both character and setting. I was entertained and I look forward to the next book in the series.

4.5 Stars
The story has laughs, steam, secrets, and heartbreak. The Poseidon team is searching for the truth.
If you have not read the below I would recommend reading those books(s) first:
Call to Honor (Team Poseidon #1)
This is Ava and Elijah‘s story. After a mission gone wrong and Elijah almost getting killed he returns home to figure out just what happened. When he comes face to face with his ex he knows he needs to have her. Ava is finally moving on with her life and getting over the pain of her ex when he comes back to town. What’s the best way to finally get over him but to have one last time together as a goodbye. But would it be goodbye or a new beginning. The feelings are still there so will her heart get broken again when he is done with her? When danger follows Elijah home he knows not only does he have to protect his woman but he needs to keep her forever. Can he protect her and convince her that she is his forever?
I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next story from this author.

What’s it about:
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott has had a few difficult months, not only was him and his SEAL team betrayed by one of their own, he was injured quite badly in the explosion by said betrayer. While the injury has healed and he physically capable of being a part of his team, his mental state is another thing. Nightmares and PTSD about the event is making it difficult for him to be what he is, a SEAL.
Ava Monroe is a instructor at the gym from yoga to kickboxing. Since her divorce Ava has changed quite a lot, she isn’t the pampered princess she once was. She’s harder, stronger and nothing will hurt her ever again. Ava went through a lot during her short marriage with Elijah and now she’s closed off to even the idea of ever being in a relationship with anyone.
That of course all changes when Elijah returns to their home town and both are unprepared of what their presence does to the other and the feelings that reawaken.
What I liked: I enjoyed the suspense aspect of it and individually the protagonists were complex characters and I liked them. The secondary cast was interesting. I really liked Elijah’s cousin Mack, Elijah’s friend and teammate Lansky. The premise of the story was interesting with the team under suspicion of being involved with the betrayer and the presence of a spy in the team.
Quibbles: This book had so much potential in so many aspects…As I said earlier the protagonists were likeable however the execution of their romance wasn’t done quite well, since they were both didn’t want to have a proper relationship (or when one did, the other didn’t), just sex and were unwilling to have meaningful conversations about what had happened, why their marriage dissolved etc I just didn’t connect to them as a couple as I wanted to. The plot of finding the spy was also unfinished and I went in thinking this was a standalone which it is but I think everyone would benefit if *we* had read the first book in the series to understand the deeper aspects of the team and the plot.
Overall, it’s a decent second chance romance about a SEAL and his ex-wife who never really got over each other. I’m looking forward to reading the next one the series, hopefully it’s Lansky’s book and we finally get some answers.

The Poseidon team are hard-bodied, fiercely competitive Navy SEALs. But when a sensitive mission goes disastrously wrong, three of the team's finest will have to trust their hearts and instincts to uncover the truth…
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott should be spending his precious leave somewhere with sun, surf and scantily clad women. Instead, he's heading home with two goals in mind. Figure out exactly how his last assignment went to hell and almost killed him—and reconnect with the woman who might offer salvation.
Ava Monroe has streamlined her life, eliminating every source of pain—including a marriage touched by tragedy. One glimpse of her ex and those good intentions turn to bad-girl desires. Her strategy: get over Elijah by getting under him again, sating herself until she can finally let go. But as betrayal within the rank of the SEALs turns deadly, there's no denying that her heart and her life are on the line. Elijah is the only man who can protect both…
This is an action packed story about a strong team of men striving to uncover treason in a series of books. Elijah is an awesome Alpha. He's had a traumatic past and his ex-wife is just as awesome a character. They've both changed alot and even though they've both got scars...some hidden and some not so hidden - they want to find them out and fix them. I thought this was a delightful story of redemption and what can happen when two people are really meant for each other.
I received an ARC from the publisher/author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect anyone else's

Call to Engage by Tawny Weber is the second book in her Team Poseidon romantic suspense series which features tough, honour bound SEALS, who form an elite Team called Team Poseidon tasked with sensitive missions that only these special trained SEALS can complete, and their strong, independent heroines.
I adored the first book, Call to Honor and was eager to get my hands on the next book. It is better to read the first book before you read this one because the action and the mission continues from there to this book.
In Call to Engage, we get Lieutenant Elijah Prescott's story who I met in the previous book. He is an intense character who is still recuperating from a mission gone wrong and also facing suspicion of being in cohort with anti-government forces. He travels back home to rest and sort his life and comes face to face with a past that left his heart bruised and broken.
The romance is intense, hot and emotionally rich. The plot is crisp and so engaging that I could not keep the book down until I had reached the very end. Loved the chemistry between Elijah and Ava. Both are strong characters and have faced situations that left them unhappy and blaming each other. It shows the writing prowess of the author that narrated the events of the past in such a way that we get both sides of the story and could empathize with both Ava and Elijah.
There is drama, intrigue, betrayal, love, loyalty, suspense, espionage and full on entertainment in this book and I strongly recommend it to all lovers of suspense and romance above the age of eighteen.
Eager to read the next book, I give Call to Engage 4.5 stars out of 5.

This was my first book by Tawny Weber. It was pretty good. It took a while for the book to get going. It had a good blend of romance and suspense. I would probably read the rest of the series after I finish other books.

A great addition to the series! Okay, so I had to pick up and read the first book before diving into this one. I'm glad I did. While you can read this as a stand alone, it wouldn't have had the same effect.
This book was just like the first: filled with plenty of action, friendship, laughter, sexiness, and of course, love. I like how Tawny was able to tie it all together and still keep a bit of suspense to the overall plot.
Ava was phenomenal. Kick ass. And yet soft at the same time. Her and Elijah's history is a tough one to push past, but Tawny did a great job at taking us along for the ride and getting everyone there within the right frame of mind.
The only suggestion I'd make is this...the acronyms...if the next book could spell them out, it'd be great. I served in the military for eight years and there were a few that went over my head.
Great read and I highly recommend!

Call to Engage is book 2 in the Team Poseidon and you really should read these in order. While each book focuses on a different couple, there is a larger story arc that continues from book to book. If you start with Call to Engage, you will be a bit confused about the drama regarding the SEAL team.
Call to Engage is also a second chance romance between a now ex-husband and ex-wife. Elijah is a SEAL and was injured during his last mission. He heads back home to where his ex-wife Ava is to trying and sort through the wreckage of his life. These two still have a chemistry they can't and don't ignore. Ava thinks the fling will help her. Elijah has no plans to let her go again. Both have matured since their marriage ended and they are different people now. I enjoyed reading about their relationship and seeing them fall back in love again. The event that created the beginning of the end for them
the death of their son at 4 months old
The suspense comes from the continuing drama with the traitor on the SEAL team. Ava ends up helping the team when the shit hits the fan. Terrorism, the hunt for Brandon Ramsey, and more all add to the drama of these two trying to repair their relationship.
Like book 1, my biggest struggle was the pacing. I felt both books drug on at points and were longer than necessary. I did also find it annoying that both Ava and Elijah were telling themselves they were just having sex for closure. I wanted them to WANT to repair their marriage. Eventually they get to that point, but again, I think it took too long.
Call to Engage brings together second chance romance with military danger and drama to give you a story that will heat up your sheets and keep you guessing!

Call to Honor was a really great start to this series and this installment only confirms to me that this is definitely a series for the keeper shelf. CALL TO ENGAGE is filled with drama, intrigue, betrayal, passion and emotion, and of course the bonds of brotherhood the team shares which are sure to be tested again and again. Unlike the previous book that left me grinning from ear to ear, this one left me in a pensive mood, even though I really enjoyed it.
Lieutenant Elijah Prescott overcame the odds to recover from physically life-threatening injuries from his last mission, but emotionally he's still battered and bruised and needs some time off to get his head back in the game. Meeting his ex-wife for the first time in four years was not a part of the plan, especially with the pain and baggage from their marriage, but this may be the opportunity he needs to deal with their past loss and pain and get over it or try for a second chance with the only woman he's ever loved.
Ava Monroe was once a socialite concerned with shallow pursuits until she got a wakeup call from life that cost her a lot. She now lives a much simpler and controlled life but one encounter with her ex-husband has her jonesing for a taste of the passion that was never in short supply between them. Only, this time it will be on her terms and she will gladly walk away at the end of their interlude.
The only problem with this is that both Ava and Elijah have not dealt with the issues that destroyed their marriage four years ago or their feelings for each other and this may be their one chance to do so. With Elijah's team dealing with deadly betrayal from one of their own, the timing couldn't be more wrong but for Ava, it's revealed a weak, thoughtless and selfish side to her past self that did not give her husband what he needed.
I like that while the team drama is a major part of this book, the focus was actually on Elijah and Ava's relationship and the personal growth they had experienced since their divorce. Elijah made my heart hurt for him. The physical and mental wounds from the attack and the potentially career-ending rumors of his involvement in criminal activity were a lot to deal with, but when added to the personal loss he never dealt with, it just felt like a crushing weight. I'll admit that Ava was not my favorite character initially but she redeemed herself by the end of the book.
The revelations from their former team member only add more intrigue to the team's drama and I can't wait for the next book to find out what direction Ms. Weber takes the story in.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series, Call to Honor, and jumped at the chance to read this sequel Both stories are concerned with the men who form the Poseidon team of elite Navy SEALs, their interactions, what happens to them and their search to discover just who is betraying them…… Whilst this story could be read as a standalone, I believe readers will benefit from reading the series in order as
Elijah Prescott is one of the team. Life has been traumatic for him in recent years . . . his marriage ended in divorce not long after their baby son unexpectedly died, he’s sustained serious burn injuries whilst in action and the whole team have been betrayed by one of them, something they’re finding hard to accept. Elijah decides to take leave to give himself more time to recover from all that life is throwing at him and returns to stay with his cousin, Mack, who runs a gym. He didn’t anticipate encountering his ex-wife so soon after returning, or to discover how much she’s changed in appearance and attitude as she’s now kick-ass hot – an instructor in the gym in many different aspects. As the two reconnect, their chemistry is still volatile but with the past something they still need to discuss and the mystery of who has betrayed the team, things aren’t going to go smoothly for this couple.
This is an action packed story of a strong team of men striving to uncover treason, betrayal and deception whilst protecting those they love. It is fast paced with strong characters, hot action, uncertainty and plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing in anticipation. The leading ladies all have their own strengths and are key to many events – and there’s also a delightful young boy involved, too! Another enjoyable read from this talented author – I can’t wait for the next book in the series to be available 🙂
Many thanks to the publishers for agreeing to gift me a copy of this book via NetGalley. This is my honest opinion after reading the novel.

Call to Engage by Tawny Weber My rating: 4 of 5 stars 'Call To Engage' by Tawny Weber is book Two in the "Team Poseidon". This is the story of Elijah and Ava. I have not yet read the previous book and do feel that I would have enjoyed this more if I had but overall I found this be be a exciting story. This was a second chance at love For Elijah and Ava. Both have changed so much since their marriage where they had to deal with a tragedy that they couldn't get past at the time. But this story tells of their "Second Chance at Love" .
