This was the third book in a series. Despite not having read the previous books, Seven Suspects was a thrilling read with a plot twist and a storyline that was intriguing from start to end.

Seven Suspects follows Bobbi Logan who is a business woman and a hairdresser. This story is told in first person about Logan who is being stalked. She's a survivor of rape and has to deal with others' bullying and bigotry. Her stalker is becoming more and more violent and audacious as the days go by. He broke into her salon, left a graphic drawing of her, takes photos of her secretly, and Logan is beginning to fear for hearself, but she refuses to be a victim again.

I really like Logan's character because of how brave and strong she is. I always love reading about characters who are in the LGBT community because there isn't enough representation in popular culture and I think Renee James did a good job on this aspect

Thanks for my copy of this for an honest review.
Solid 3.5
Some things that people might find "triggery" but an overall good mystery. The twist kinda fell off at the end but it didn't make me not like the book. Love seeing a transgender represented.

Didn't know it was part three of a series, I was able to follow along just fine. I might go back and read the start of the series.

Bobbie was a strong woman that trying to find out who is stalking/harassing her and coming up with a list of suspects. Solid read. I would read more from this author!

Seven Suspects is third book in Bobbi Logan Crime Novel series. It has intriguing story and told in one point of view. I haven't read the first two book in the series but Seven Suspects can it without reading those. Well-written and not that hard to understand. Important parts of the story were described in detail that some readers may not like it. Also, it is in good pace. This is a great mystery/thriller book that you'll definitely invest yourself reading.

Many thanks to the author / Oceanview Publishing / Netgalley / Edelweiss for the digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Bobbi Logan is tough, she's funny, she's a successful business woman who owns a thriving up-scale beauty salon. Bobbi is smart, lovable, ... and she's a transgender.

Transgender people are people who have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex. Transgender people are sometimes called transsexual if they desire medical assistance to transition from one sex to another.

Bobbi has survived many obstacles to get where she is .. she's been bullied, assaulted, and even survived an erroneous murder charge .. and she's made plenty of enemies along the way.

And now she has a stalker. He's broken into her salon, he's left a graphic drawing for her, he's been taking photos of her. And he's getting closer all the time. For the first time in a long time, she's feeling the fear and intimidation that she's fought so hard against for so long.

She has 6 possibilities of men who might be capable of doing these things ..so she does what most of us would never think of doing. One by one she confronts them face to face, resulting in a lot of emotional upheaval. Her friend says there must be a 7th suspect. Is one of her suspects the one ... or is there yet another one out there?

And when the stalker comes forward, Bobbi will be fighting for her very life.

The story is told in first person, present tense and entirely from Bobbi's point of view. The author has done an extremely good job in explaining transgenderism. In this instance, Bobbi has not let her gender define who she is. She is a very unique, credible character. The suspense that comes with every suspect she interviews had me closing one eye waiting to see how it ended.,, if this is the one who's a stalker.

This is 3rd in a series and does fine as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend starting with Book 1 to pick up all the little details and nuances that we all love.

After a tempestous life, Bobbi is a successful business woman who uses her brains and her compassion to her advantage. She takes no prisoners and has a heart of gold.

As it becomes clear that she has a stalker. who has broken into her salon, taken photos and left a graphic drawing for her Bobbi feels the fear and intimidation that she's fought so hard against for so long.

She has 6 potential men who she confronts one by one, resulting in a lot of emotional upheaval. Her friend says there must be a 7th suspect...

I enjoyed the first person aspect of the book and the continually explaining of transgenderism. I believe this to be the 3rd in a series and I look forward to finding book 1.

*I do not identify as Trans* but I was extremely uncomfortable with the blatant transphobia from the main antagonist and the subtle transphobia and negative attitudes from the protagonists supposed best friends and support system. I understand there is nasty transphobia in the real world and this probably reflects a good part of it, but I do not like how it was written and do not feel comfortable finishing this book and writing a public review about it. Just like I know there is racism and sexism and other kinds of -isms, I prefer my fiction to be optimistic and have an adequate support system full of love and compassion to fight it, with the emphasis on the good rather than the bad, but I felt like this was not that.

I'm not usually a huge fan of thrillers, but this one was pretty fun.

Bobbi Logan is a transgender woman running a hair salon who is just trying to get over the recent breakup with the love of her life. But when strange things start happening to Bobbi, it's up to her to find out who is terrorizing her - and what they want.

This was an enjoyable thriller. It had an interesting story and gave me a new perspective on what it's like to live as a transwoman. I loved hearing about the competing parts of Bobbi and her adjustments to living as a woman. That was the best part of this book honestly. The thriller part was a bit...predictable. As soon as the villain was introduced, I knew who it was and was frustrated that Bobbi was unable to identify the bad guy.

Overall, this is a book that lovers of thrillers will enjoy and that trans people will probably be able to relate to (maybe not on the stalking front, but definitely on the transitioning parts).

A Too Edgy Psychological Thriller

Seven Suspects opens with the heroine, Bobbi Logan, a transgender woman, setting the stage with her recent history with a serial killer as an aside. This background is needed as this is the third book in the series. After this introduction, the main storyline starts with Bobbi’s daily life as a hair salon owner/operator, apartment building owner, and transgender woman. Also during this the reader learns more about Bobbi through her interactions with her ex-wife, that wife’s teenage daughter from a subsequent marriage, and various friends and lovers.

The entire first part of the novel has strong undertone of fear. Bobbi repeatedly expresses her fear of being a woman especially being a transgender woman. She has been raped in the past. Soon, she starts to feel that she is being followed. The fears become paranoia, but it becomes reality with attacks start against her property. The main storyline emerges now as Bobbi tries to figure out who is stalking her.

As I stated above, the B-storyline is extensive and well integrated into the main story. I did not realize when I started to read this novel that it is the third in a series. The author does backfill on what was portrayed in the previous novels that pertains to this one, so that fact should not discourage you from reading this novel before the previous.

While the start was slow, the action did speed up once the main storyline took over. It eventually did capture my imagination enough that I wanted to find out who was the stalker. This aspect was about the only positive I have for this novel. On the downside, the authors includes very graphic sex scenes where Bobbi was a willing and unwilling participant, graphic violence including a rape by foreign object, and language that is quite explicit. This novel greatly exceeded my rather permissive standards for sex, violence and language. Readers be forewarned.

At the end, the author did wrap up the main storyline satisfactory. The B-storyline also ended up in satisfactory situation. This and the keeping my interest in the latter part of the novel are the only reasons that I upped my rating from one star to two stars. I cannot recommend reading this novel.

I have received a free kindle version of this novel through NetGalley from Oceanview Publishing with a request for an honest, unbiased review. I wish to thank Oceanview for the opportunity to read this novel.

The woman in you. The woman in me.

Honestly, who says women feel this and don't feel that. Women can do this and absolutely cannot do that. The main characters thinks she knows what women supposed to feel, think, do. She wants to imitate them. STOP. Do not imitate anyone. Be yourself.

This way your suspence would have been so much better. Constantly self-doubting, paranoyed, self-depreciating characters is not a joy to read. I found it pitying.

The story dragged for a very, very long time. I did not even understand what the mystery was about until half-way through the book. The book was all about Bobbie's story, life, business and relationships. It was about how promiscious she is without having sex with anyone... Honestly... what was that all about?

Some points of the story were fine. Some of them were even acutely familiar to me, a genetic woman. Thus, my point again. We, women, do feel frightened but we are strong and brave enough to protect and defend ourselves and our loved ones. And we, women do feel like biting someone's head of or pushing them off the cliff. Trust me, been there.

I have given this book 3 stars as I enjoyed my first ever transgender character. Howevever, I would not read any more books in the series. I found the story itself, the dynamic not to my liking.

Seven suspects is an interesting take on how difficult the life of a transgender women Bobbi Logan is. Bobbi is a hairdresser. She has a few great friends and a supprt system. Bobbi can never get passed the horrors of her past when a horrible attack and rape. She is also no longer with the love of her life. She is also paranoid as most victims and she knows someone is stalking her.Bobbi is not afraid to confront people who are questionableas being the stalker. Quite a surprising ending! yes, this is some what explicit but that doedn't bother me .
My only problem with the book was I felt it was way to repetitive about a lot of her life.

I did not give this book a rating as I did not find it fair to. Upon learning that there were previous Bobbi Logan books before this one, I stopped reading further and did not finish the book. Had I known there were previous books, I would've read those first.

Initially, I had requested this book upon reading the description. It was interesting. I also commend the author for creating such a diverse and strong character. Thank you to the publisher for sharing this book with me. Maybe I will return to this and read it after reading the first two books.

How these books really work for me is as a character study and how a character grows and changes and in the context of Bobbi Logan, how she metamorphosed from a man into a strong confident woman. In the context of the trilogy (thus far) we have run the gamut of emotion as well as all the stages the protagonist has gone through on this journey and it was great to get more of the story with this installment.

The "thriller" portion of the book is decent as well with someone following her, vandalizing her business and just terrorizing her. Who is the suspect? Well, she narrows it down to seven people. Just when she seems to eliminate them all, well lets just say you need to read this one to find out.

I will say that you should read them in order since there are details and plot points that develop over the course of the three books.

I received this book in exchange for an unbiased review from Net Galley.

The protagonist, Bobbi Logan, has had her share of challenges. She is a strong, successful business woman, who is transsexual. She has survived bullying, rejection, a rape, a murder investigation, and, now, she is being stalked. She believes in the theory of 'sevens', and she is right! Bobbi is tough, witty, and likeable. The writing is well done. I had a difficult time with the final conflict, and rooted for Bobbi all the way. Thank you, NetGalley, for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review. 4/5 stars.

The hero/heroine is an interesting character bringing an unusual to the thriller genre. The question of sexuality is a significant theme but is handled well without resort to prurient details. The plot held the attention and had sufficient twists to make a worthwhile read.

"Fate. Karma. God's grand design. Call it what you will, some days are just fucked before you get out of bed." Ain't life grand? 👀 And Renee, I agree - sometimes life just deals you what it deals you, no matter which side you get up from.

I'll be honest, I struggled through the first few parts of this book. Bobbi comes across as this extremely smart, strong and successful woman but the insecurities rise like the sludge of leftover soup. The constant need to make everything sexual became very off putting at times... and trust me, I'm not one to cower or run from any type of sexual implicity. However, every time Bobbi meets a man, whether it's by first glance, or a small encounter, or with her ex (Phil), the love of her life, it immediately goes to whether that man finds her attractive, repulsive or how quickly she can get into bed with him. EVERY ENCOUNTER.

Bobbi's character has been raped and abused in the past and yet she STILL lets strange men into her home and bed. (I know that this is sometimes a natural reaction for those who have been through such trauma - it can be this extreme or the flip side, but it's frustrating to read sometimes.) Even goes after each suspect in who could possibly be stalking her. She's taken self defense classes and her body is still large and intimidating but yet all these men are a threat to her, not only mentally but physically. WOMAN, stop it already!!

What ended up happening though is that I completely started to feel for Bobbi with each chapter. Yes, I was frustrated with her. Yes, I wanted to shake her and give her a good talking to... but she had Cecelia for that. I really enjoyed their friendship - it reminded me a lot of my friendship with my best friend, completely and unabashedly honest with that cut of sarcasm. Always looking out for the best in each other while still accepting each other wholeheartedly. You can't ask for more than that and it resonates throughout this book.

The final scene was hard to read - and not because I'm squeamish or haven't read worse - but because of how invested I started to get into Bobbi's character. You'll have to read to see how it all turns out.

Now, I know very little of the trans world so I can only imagine what Bobbi has gone through. What this novel did for me was to shed some light into this community and for that I am ever grateful. It also prompted me to look into the author some more and I found that she is transgender and based Bobbi on her physically. I found this link to the publisher's site where you can learn more about her... and I suggest that you do:

SEVEN SUSPECTS by Renee James is book three in the Bobbi Logan series, however it did read well as a standalone. The author brings the reader into a world of paranoia, stalking, and the life of one woman trying to figure out who, of her seven enemies, is harassing her.

Bobbi Logan is a successful hairdresser and business owner. She's gone through her share of hardships to get to where she is now. She's gone through gender transition (which has come with bigotry and bullying), survived rape, and even been part of a murder investigation. None of that can stop her or keep her down but needless to say, she's created a few enemies along the way. One day she begins to receive threats from a stalker. The threats become increasingly violent and personal as each day passes. Bobbi has vowed to never be a victim again, so she compiles a list of six men it could possibly be. When she confronts each of them she quickly realizes there's probably a seventh suspect.

I will say that this was both a frustrating and interesting read. Bobbi was both likeable and irritating. Despite her history she continues to let men she doesn't know into her home. I agree with my reader in crime, Chandra, on this one - you just want to shake her and tell her to snap out of it! I did love her friendship with Cecelia though. It felt so genuine and real. I'm sure every reader will be able to relate to that connection and think of their best friend.

I don't want to give away too much more information about the ending or other events, but it definitely comes to a climax at the end.

Overall, I did like this book. It was a good mystery and you get invested in the characters. It gives the readers a glimpse into a world that not many know a lot about - at least I don't. The hardships that Bobbi faces from gender transition are what made her mentally stronger.

I give this one 3.5/5 stars!

Really enjoyable ..if I had not been devouring this diverting work of a transgender hairdresser., turned detective, seeking took trap her own stalker, I would have found the list of suspects unlikely and their trail too long not only because she takes it on herself to do personally (except she's a burly transwoman) , but she gets away with things that might easily have seriously killed her off. Of course we have figured it out before she has! I think it's the smart, witty commentary as she examined and grapples with lovers, and an 11 year old closer to her that to anyone that I really. could not or it down .. I hope another one pops up desire my inner voice saying this is not credible, I did not pay attention to that. voice and carried on ..
