Absolutely gorgeous (and funny) story about making friends (with a ghost, obviously!). It's creative and not too spooky, so a good Halloween tale for everyone!

Note: I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy.

'How to Make Friends with a Ghost' by Rebecca Green is a charming book about the supernatural.

This is a guidebook for how to find and friend a ghost. The first trick is finding one, since they seem really hard to find. They are also easily frightened away and may not want to come in to your home, but you can simply blow them in to your house. The care and feeding of ghosts is important and the book even has some helpful (if disgusting sounding) recipes.

The illustrations are what really made this book work for me. The colors are darker with hints of color, like the main characters hair ribbon. The ghost character is small and cute. The text was fun and kind of silly. If I ever decide to friend a ghost, I'll be sure to take this handy book along with me.

I received a review copy of this ebook from Tundra Books, Penguin Random House Canada, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

How to Make Friends with a Ghost by Rebecca Green is a picturebook currently scheduled for release on September 5 2017. What do you do when you meet a ghost? One: Provide the ghost with some of its favorite snacks, like mud tarts and earwax truffles. Two: Tell your ghost bedtime stories (ghosts love to be read to). Three: Make sure no one mistakes your ghost for whipped cream or a marshmallow when you aren't looking! If you follow these few simple steps and the rest of the essential tips in How to Make Friends with a Ghost, you'll see how a ghost friend will lovingly grow up and grow old with you.

How to Make Friends with a Ghost is a fun and original picturebook which outlines what you should to in order to meet a ghost and be a good friend to it. I liked the quirky information given, and think it could be a perfect book to give a child that is currently scared of the things that go bump in the night. The story describes ghosts as shy but loyal, with some interesting dietary favorites. A ghost friend likes most of the same things a child does, but needs some protecting in the world. I enjoyed seeing the ghost stick around the young girl as she grew up, had a family, and eventually grew old. The ending did have a slightly dark leaning, making it clear that a ghost will be a forever friend, but it worked for me.

Gorgeous illustrations and a fantastic storyline - I'll definitely be buying this myself as the digital didn't do it justice.

This month in “adorable picture books I couldn’t help reading” is one I actually think is suitable for all ages…possibly even mine. How to Make Friends with a Ghost by Rebecca Green is a short illustrated “how to” guide with instructions on how to meet and be friends with a ghost.

Not only are the illustrations gorgeous, but I love the quirky humour of the book as well. Although it’s definitely a bit odd, Green’s book is just so cute. It ends with a sweet section on growing old. How to Make Friends with a Ghost releases in September and I think it would make the perfect Fall read, especially in time for Halloween.

I had trouble with the book being too small to read so I could not finish it. I will try to get it from the library later.

How to engage, entertain and treat a ghost from birth to the beyond. Stunning and playful illustrations are the highlight of this spooky story.

Have you ever wanted to make friends with a ghost? If so, this is the perfect book for you! How To Make Friends With A Ghost is an adorable instruction manual that shows you how to befriend a ghost, what to feed them, how to keep them entertained, and more.
Ghosts are forever friends so be prepared to give them a lifetime of love and care!

This is seriously the cutest book ever! It's silly, fun, and has one of the most adorable ghosts I've ever seen. I want to go out and find a ghost of my own now, except I may have to wait for one to find me first! Definitely give this picture book a chance. You'll love the illustrations and the fun instructions.

I mainly went for this book because I really liked the simplistic art style (which is apparently a theme I have when I look at picture books). Little did I know the book would actually be a how to manual for how to take care of a ghost after you find it! It's a very creative concept that is perfect to Halloween, and may even take away some of the fears a few little kids have about ghosts around that time (maybe next time, "how to make friends with a clown" would help me with my fear of clowns!). It's definitely one of those books I can see reading to my many cousins or nieces and nephews without rolling my eyes and feigning enjoyment (let's face it, we all have THOSE books), and I think any age could be able to appreciate the simplistic and cute concept about ghost care.

This picture book is adorable from the minimalist images to the set up of a "how-to" book. The art is cute, the story is fun, and I can certainly see myself reading this when I was younger. Might be a bit advanced for beginning readers, but for more advanced readers, I would highly recommend!

Written in the form of a manual rather than a story, this book shows the reader how to attract, befriend, and maintain friendships with a ghost.

The illustrations are warm, and the text is delightfully silly. I could see this going over well at Halloween.

Bet you didn't know you needed an instruction manual on ghosts. Probably because you never thought of becoming friends with them.

Sort of like those instruction manuals from the 1980s about fairies and gnomes, but not at all. I mean, this is an instruction manual, but it is also about friendship, and ghosts.

Cute pictures. And cute instructions on how to care for your ghost. And, best of all, making a friend with a ghost means you will have a friend for life, and beyond.

Not sure who this book is aimed at, however. It preports to be a picture book, for children, but I think this is more for adults, with a child within.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

Netgalley ARC Review:

Rebecca Green delivers a sweet yet haunting tale for children that like ghosts but want something "not too scary". Beautiful illustrations and witty humor delight in this tale of unlikely friendship that is perfect for readers in grades 1-3 or to be shared with a parent.

I get the appeal this book would have on some readers but unfortunately understanding that is one thing and felling the same way is another.

I don't think it works as a book for children. Not because of the content itself but the way it's put together. It would make its appeal lost for the readers this book is intended for.

What a sweet, humorous approach to the idea of ghosts. I truly enjoyed how the author walked through each step and phase of being friends with a ghost. In each section I found myself wishing for more, especially in the do' s and Don'ts. Spending your life with a ghost can be a blessing and the quote a the end was the absolute perfect summation of the book.
