I love fake fiance stories, so I snatched this one up without even thinking about it. This is a sweet, heartwarming romance that romance lovers would surely devour in one sitting. This story could have been predictable, but Sarah's hijinks and the tasks they needed to perform to be worthy of the wedding brooch saved it from being so. I loved how well characterized both Ben and Sarah are, and the readers are shown these and can see for themselves through their actions just what kind of people they are. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the story, especially the slightly wacky, comedic air of the events in the story. I just have two complaints. First is the spelling of the word "brooch", more specifically, the wedding brooch that is the central focus of the story. One would've thought that as it's the focal point of the story--that is, Sarah and Ben needed to retrieve it in time for their friend's wedding thus giving rise to their fake fiance ruse--attention would've been given to make sure it's spelled properly (it's "broach" in my review copy). I hope this error is caught in the final copy. Second is I find one of Ben's particular actions toward the end unnecessary. Sure, it looked more romantic but not necessary for me to believe in their HEA. Plus, i think it came a little too soon. Overall, I really enjoyed this and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this. |
Susan Hattler created a love story that made the main characters come face to face with their past. The Wedding Charm was a fast paced romantic comedy that featured strong and independent characters that were willing to make their best friends wedding perfect. Many surprises and tasks came along that had me laughing out loud while feeling eager to see what kind of trouble these characters would get into/avoid next. Sarah Carlton and and Ben Atkins set the bar for maid of honor/best man so high that it will be hard for anyone to top. One upping each other is the name of the game and make for a humorous, fast paced, and nail biting romance. Sarah Carlton was great at everything and had a heart of gold. She was that type of person who always helped without asking for anything in return. She was a successful paralegal, but it wasn't her dream job. Family/financial issues prevented her from following her plan and becoming a lawyer, but she was happy with her life. Things were getting exciting in many ways for Sarah. Her best friend Jill was getting married, she was the maid of honor, but she had to see her nemesis. Could she stay sane and deal with having to spend days with her nemesis Ben? Ben Atkins was even better at everything ;) If you wanted to treat your friend to dinner, better act quickly or else he would be picking up the check. Being better than Sarah seemed to give him so much joy. He was a lawyer and had a great career. Then, he saw Sarah. One science project and "dimple" jokes made them complete enemies. Ben Atkins has been nothing but a charmer to everyone except Sarah. Can they put on a happy face for their best friends? Sarah and Ben are faced with a tough task: Get Jill's family wedding charm in less than 3 days. Of course, Jill volunteers and after hearing this Ben jumps on the opportunity to acquire the charm. With a little lying, scheming, and teamwork, the pair is determined not to let anyone or anything stand in their way of making Jill's wedding perfect. I give The Wedding Charm 4 stars. It was fun, romantic, and reminded me the importance of opening up your heart and being vulnerable. You can only find and keep love if you let yourself. This story will remind us all to be vulnerable when we don't want to, and pick your battles when you want to make sure the day goes smoothly ;) |
I have to say I loved this sweet romance. Sarah and Ben are forced together when they are standing up as best man and maid of honor at Jill and Ryan’s wedding. Sarah has had a crush on Ben since elementary school, but he is constantly teasing her and competing with her. However, things take a turn when Jill realizes she doesn’t have her grandmother’s wedding charm and Sarah and Ben set out to get it for her. They think they are simply flying to Atlanta to pick it up, but when they arrive they find out they must complete three tasks to earn the charm. Sarah and Ben must pretend to be Jill and Ryan while completing these tasks to prove they will have a lasting marriage. Will their love turn out to be more than a game of pretend? Will they be able to make it back in time for the wedding with the charm? I loved this story. I loved that it wasn’t an insta-love story, but rather a couple that had known each other most of their lives. I also liked having the backstory of their childhoods without having to spend half the book in flashbacks. They were sweet together and things developed in a more natural way. Sure, the task of getting the wedding charm was a bit extreme, but it was still somehow believable. I was rooting for these two from the very start. The author did a great job introducing the characters and making me care about them. I had a feeling from the beginning that there was more to Ben and his behavior toward Sarah. He seemed to be too amused by her and her perseverance to be the competitive tormentor she thought he was. Seeing their relationship develop was fun and lighthearted. They were great together and seemed to bring out the best in one another. While Sarah could get caught up in the tasks and stress, Ben brought out her fun, lighthearted side. Sarah’s determination to help others kept Ben focused and believing they could accomplish anything. I also loved that the conflict in this story wasn’t over the top. Instead, they were dealing with real world problems people could actually identify with. Yes, the tasks to get the charm and trouble they brought were a bit over the top, but these weren’t really the problems for these characters. No, their real problems included things like sick family members, financial concerns, and questions of commitment and love following the divorce of someone you love. These are things that real people deal with all the time. It definitely helped keep the characters and overall story believable. The secondary characters were also a nice addition to the story. I know I am curious as to what will happen with Avery and her housing crisis. I would also like to go back and read about Jill and Ryan and how they met. If their friends are this willing to make their wedding perfect, they must have a pretty good story. Overall, Susan Hatler crafted a great story that left me wanting more. In fact, my only complaint is the lack of an epilogue. However, I am hoping to see these characters again in this series. Perhaps that will satisfy my need. Definitely an author and series I plan to check out again. Thank you, NetGalley, for providing a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. |
I loved this book....until the ending. Their relationship was adorable, and I totally saw the part about the science project coming, but who the heck proposes at a wedding? Not cool, man. |
*Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review* Cute story! It was a short read and no steamy sex scenes, but it was a good read and the chemistry felt real between the characters. I enjoyed this book and found myself smiling for the most part while reading it. I would recommend to friends and family. |
It is very rare that I read contemporary romance it's not that I don't like them but I tend to go for the spicier kind but the moment I caught a glance of the blurb to this book I was hooked. This book has a great storyline and fantastic characters I loved the little missions they both had to do to get their friends charm for her wedding as it brought them closer together and the chemistry was electric. I loved little moose what a sweetie. but one thing I adored the most was the ending. |

The story had all kinds of emotion's very nicely portrayed and was very engaging. Even though I got to finish this book over two days, my mind kept going back to whether Sarah and Ben retrieved the wedding charm which Jill wanted to have without which she was ready to cancel her wedding. Over all this a very good read and I enjoyed ever scene thoroughly. |
This is the first book from this author I have read. I loved it!!! It was fun, sweet, and romantic. The story flowed smoothly. The author told such a wonderful tale. It was so fun to read and he lost in the characters. I didn't want to put it down. It was a romance story that has never been told before. The wedding charm is quickly fun romantic and sweet. The main characters Sarah and Ben have excellent chemistry. Sarah is snarky, quirky, funny and has trouble trusting Ben. Ben is smart, serious, fun and doesn't have faith in marriage. They are both tasked with going to Atlanta to find Jill's Grandmother's wedding charm. Jill and Ryan can't get married until they have the charm. While in Atlanta they have to perform three tasks while pretending to be an engaged couple, to be able to obtain the charm. Can they perform the tasks and fool everyone? Will their hearts survive and make it back in time to save Jill's wedding? Well let's just say you must read to find out. I definitely recommend this book. #happyreading #fangirl |
This is a sweet little read and i really liked it ended up reading it in one sitting.Like Ben and Sarah story it was a fun read and a great addition to the series would recommend. |
The word to best describe this book would be... Charming. It is a short story about Sarah and Ben, who share a history in rivalry. So, when Sarah's best friend is getting married, but really, really, really wants to wear the wedding charm from her grandma to her wedding, the game is back on. Sarah wants to best Ben, the guy who destroyed her science project all those years ago. The story is funny and not quite believable, but who cares? It is a light read and because it is such a short book, Susan did not have the time to go in depth into the characters. Which is a shame, because you loose a lot of credibility without it. So, maybe she should have gotten more on paper and made the story a little more interesting. However, for a happily-ever-after-junkie like me, it was a perfect read. Especially after the rollercoaster ride of The Flame in The Mist, I could use something less heavy. And for that, three out of five stars from me. |
This book is a great fun read with lively dialogue - totally likable characters and a fun entertaining romp! |

A lighthearted romantic novel with elements of humour. It is predictable but charmingly told and the characters are good. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Atlanta, as this is a place I would like to see. Whilst I find this type of book an easy afternoon on the sofa , quick read I do think that it is too perfect for people to fall in love so quickly. So for me, it is not really realistic which affects my rating of it. Thank you to NetGalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for my honest review. |
I was looking for a fun, whimsical read for the weekend, and that's exactly what I found in The Wedding Charm. Sarah is her best friend's maid of honor, and she can't wait to be part of the festivities. With one giant exception... Sarah has had a major crush on Ben since elementary school, but it doesn't seem that he returns her affections. He has always been ultra-competetive with Sarah, and even ruined her science fair projecting, guaranteeing that she lost the scholarship that came with the winning prize. Fast forward to adulthood and Ben is still showing Sarah up. He even had the nerve to pay the dinner bill for the entire wedding party, Sarah included, when she attempted to do the same herself. Chaos ensues when Jill realizes the storied family weddding charm was left behind in Atlanta. She must have the charm to get married. Sarah jumps at the chance to save the day for her friend, but not before Ben tries to do the same. The pair end up travelling to Atlanta together, and encounter a lot of repressed emotions along the way. I can't wait for more of this series |

A sweet story. Sarah Carlton, Maid of Honor and best man Ben Atkins end up going on a hunt for a wedding charm the bride needs. Sarah had a childhood crush on Ben but he was never seen her like that and he doesn't seem to believe in marriage and it's ability to last. Some sweet and funny moments. |
Nice book. This review is based on the ARC provided by the author and/or the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion. |

High school crush revisited and a scavenger hunt. What an interesting combination. The wedding plays second fiddle to the drama surrounding the wedding charm search. There are some humorous parts as the story unfolds. I enjoyed the book! |
How far would YOU go to make your best friend's wedding perfect? Sarah never thought she'd have to fly across the country to Atlanta two days before her best friend Jill's wedding, with her high school nemesis Ben no less, to retrieve a family good-luck charm. But that's what best friends do, right? Discovering that Jill's grandmother was a meddling old lady who has set tasks for Jill and her fiancé to complete before they can get the charm puts a definite crimp in Sarah's plans to make a hasty getaway. She has no choice but to pretend to be madly in love with Ben in order to get the charm. Before she knows it, Sarah finds herself invading the pitch at an Atlanta Braves game, lying her way into a museum, almost getting arrested for stealing a Degas, crashing a Southern high tea, falling into a lake, rescuing a dog, and falling in love. She could probably have taken it all in her stride except for that last part... This was absolutely DELIGHTFUL. I loved Sarah and Ben together; the whole story was like a slice of wedding cake, sweet and delicious. I hadn't encountered Susan Hatler's books before but I'll definitely be looking out for more of hers in the future. Five stars for a charming and adventure-filled love story! |
