Nick's marriage is over. All he has left is to make sure his kids are well taken care of, and that his ex-wife leaves him alone. But that doesn't work for long. On his way to his daughter's school he runs into an old flame. One he didn't imagine he'd see again. And one that's kept a secret from him for the last 16 years.

I couldn't put this novel down. I was immediately sucked into the lives of all the characters. I love their stories, their flaws, and their hilarity. I really enjoyed the style of writing as well. I haven't really read anything else in the series, but if this novel is anything t go by I think I'll really enjoy those as well.

Sweet second chance romance with the complications of family thrown in!

Nick and Ashley haven't seen one another for 14 years, when they shared one passionate night together. A chance encounter due to her having a flat tire and him stopping to help her out, changes everything.

I can't really share more without giving away the story but if you love second chance romances with surprises, loud families and some suspense thrown in, you'll love this story!

Thank you NetGalley and Backlit PR for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Awaken My Heart is a solid, well written second chance romance. Ashley and Nick had a one night stand almost 15 years ago that gave her a beautiful, smart son, a son that Nick doesn't know about. She hasn't seen Nick in all this time, nor had she ever told him she had given birth to his son. But, when she runs into him after her car's tire goes flat, she knows she has to tell him. Nick has just gotten divorced from his self absorbed, grating wife and has two children with her: Gina, a moody 14 year old daughter, and Joey, a sweet 11 year old son. When Nick and Ashley see each other again, they realize the attraction they felt to each other 15 years ago is still more than present, and they embark upon a tentative relationship. I say tentative because Nick is fresh off a divorce and Ashley has her heart encased in steel.

I like Awaken My Heart for its realistic, interesting characters, both the MCs and the secondary cast. Nick and Ashley are both likable characters and their chemistry is sexy without being over the top. Ashley's father, Nick's entire family (parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother), plus all three children are the type of people anyone of us could, and probably do, know. I admit that I sometimes wanted to smack Ashley because she was a little wishy washy with Nick, but given how her mother's abandonment of her and her father had really done a number on her, I could understand why she was so scared of giving away her heart and chancing getting hurt.

I look forward to more of this series and from Maria K. Alexander.

I loved reading this book. I was able to understand both characters and felt connected to the both of them. I was not able to put this book down once I started reading it. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It never brought me to tears, but it was definitely a page turner and had it's own kind of drama that you just have to keep reading. I'd like to read all of the books in this series as I like all of the characters presented.
