This is the first book I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised.
It's not the sort of book I usually read but I am glad I gave it a chance.

'The switch' by Joseph Finder is a thriller that has you rooting for the underdog. It has taken me 2 months to write this review. That is my issue with this novel, it is 'forgettable'. Usually I finish a book and I cannot wait to write my review and tell everyone about it, but that just didn't happen with 'The switch'.

I loved the aspect of a corrupt government and feel it was very relevant and believable in this day and age but so many other aspects dragged or didn't need to be included. It was the perfect pool side read as I was never too enthralled in the story to take part in conversation and holiday activities but it allowed me to pass the time whilst basking in the sunshine.

I really enjoyed Tanner as a character and the idea of 2 laptops getting switched at an airport but it was just too long winded. All this being said I would like to see Tanner again as his balsy, all or nothing attitude really made me a fan. It's just a shame so many irrelevant under stories had to be involved which took the main fast paced story off track.

Thank you to netgalley for and ARC copy in return for an honest review.

Top notch thriller. The Switch has a really simple premise - someone mistakenly picks up a Senator's laptop at airport security. The story which follows is about the Sentor's staff trying to get it back without adverse publicity. Only, the more they attempt to avoid publicity, the higher the body count. For me the moral of the story is own up to your mistakes and once in a hole, stop digging. I wonder what would have happened if someone just went round and asked for it back - well, we'll never know! Finder writes pacey thrillers and the short snappy chapters in The Switch, work really well. Highly recomended

I wanted to like this book but simply couldn't get into the story. Terribly boring for me.

Book blurb...
Michael Tanner is heading home from a business trip when he accidentally picks up the wrong laptop from security. What he doesn't know is that the owner is US senator Susan Robbins, and her laptop contains top secret files that should never have been on there in the first place.

And Senator Robbins is not the only one who wants the laptop back... Suddenly, Tanner is a hunted man. On the run, terrified for the safety of his family – he is in desperate need of a plan – but who can he trust?

My thoughts…
LISA GARDNER described The Switch as "Completely original, emotionally satisfying, expertly twisted. The thriller to read this year.”

I could not agree more. I loved everything about his book: the plot, the characters and how the suspense forced me to keep reading. This is a genuine page turner, extraordinarily plotted, and that ending…? Inspired. Love, love loved it.

I have not read this any stories by Joseph Finder before but be assured I will read him again.

If you like reading thrillers, make sure this one goes on your to be read pile.

I always enjoy reading books by Joseph Finder and yet again he has written a fantastic political thriller that will keep you up at night trying to finish it.
Too be honest I was not a big fan of the main character BUT this just goes to show how good the writing is because I still loved reading the novel. You could totally believe the plot and I think it reads like the news I see every single day coming out of American politics.
Higly recommend

A simple error, see's laptops switched at an airport, with one belonging to a Senator with classified information on, people's lives will change for ever!! In a world of mistrust and paranoia, both parties end up making silly choices and escalating a simple mistake, into a world of trouble and danger. This is a good book that moves at a nice pace, with some I interesting characters.

Michael Tanner is a frequent business traveller for his coffee company. Whilst going through airport security, he accidentally picks up the wrong laptop. When he gets home he realises the error but (unlikely plot point #1) isn't too concerned because he only uses his laptop when travelling and has nothing of importance on it.

Because the owner of the laptop has (unlikely plot point #2) left her password on the computer, Tanner is able to log into it. The laptop belongs to a US Senator who is in possession of highly confidential Government documents. At this stage Tanner (unlikely plot point #3) doesn't attempt to contact the Senator's office to return it to its rightful owner. Instead, as he gradually realises how desperate the Senator's staff are to retrieve the laptop, he begins to understand that even knowing about the existence of the files could put him into danger.

This is an okay thriller, but it's one that's built on too flimsy a base. Tanner's actions simply aren't credible. The plot has some topical points to make about privacy and about Russian interests in US security but they are bundled up in a plot that is simply too drawn out and implausible.

I received a copy for review from Net Galley.
